“The so-called ‘psychotically

“The so-called ‘psychotically depressed’ person who tries to kill herself doesn’t do so out of quote ‘hopelessness’ or any abstract conviction that life’s assets and debits do not square. And surely not because death seems suddenly appealing. The person in whom Its invisible agony reaches a certain unendurable level will kill herself the same way a trapped person will eventually jump from the window of a burning high-rise. Make no mistake about people who leap from burning windows. Their terror of falling from a great height is still just as great as it would be for you or me standing speculatively at the same window just checking out the view; i.e. the fear of falling remains a constant. The variable here is the other terror, the fire’s flames: when the flames get close enough, falling to death becomes the slightly less terrible of two terrors. It’s not desiring the fall; it’s terror of the flames. And yet nobody down on the sidewalk, looking up and yelling ‘Don’t!’ and ‘Hang on!’, can understand the jump. Not really. You’d have to have personally been trapped and felt flames to really understand a terror way beyond falling.”

Drew and Marc

Not to be pedantic, but the show is actually called "Drew and Marc".  Marc's the big(ger) U of M fan and alum who made sure to reference mgoblog by name during the interview.

Is there a special club for

Is there a special club for people who signed up day 1 but hardly ever post?

I've used UGP several times

I've used UGP several times to have custom shirts made for group outings, usually in a run of 10-15 shirts.  They are great quality and not too expensive.  I think the person I worked with was named Danny, though it's been a couple years so I have no idea if he's still with them.

My male Black Lab has the

My male Black Lab has the licensed collar and is named after one Glenn E. Schembechler.  So I have both bases covered.

You guys are right though, the JRT hates wearing the cheerleader outfit.  Or any kind of clothing, really.

I am not at all ashamed to

I am not at all ashamed to admit that we have the Michigan Cheerleader outfit for my wife's female Jack Russell Terrier.  She is adorable in that thing.

It may help that when I first met my wife, she was an MSU fan.  Part of the appeal of her dog wearing an M cheerleader outfit may lie in the constant reminder that I did such a good job converting her.

Not that I wouldn't love to

Not that I wouldn't love to see Burke come back, but playing devil's advocate, I can see how riding the bench and making half a million a year could be more appealing than having to go to class and stuff.

That said, I really wish he would come back, develop his game and be a higher pick in next year's draft.  He'd probably end up with a higher net worth two years from now even after not getting paid for one of those years.

I've always found the term

I've always found the term "Walmart Wolverine" to be a little odd, there are plenty of MSU fans that didn't go to State; at least the Michigan fans are supporting a winning tradition.  Perhaps it was necessary to come up with an alternative to "Walmart Employee", which generally describes a graduate of MSU or one of their legacies?

Wouldn't it be better to only

Wouldn't it be better to only vote once, for Novak?  That's what I did.

Things to do in Cleveland

My friends and I will be getting into town sometime Saturday, anyone have any ideas for something that shouldn't be missed or is fun to do downtown?  Bars that 35ish year-olds would enjoy?

Parking

You're 16 and coming up to the game sans-parents for the first time?  If I were you I wouldn't worry about congestion after the game because you should really take some time to enjoy the experience rather than being in a rush to get out of there.  It's really only badly congested for about an hour or so following the game, at least for me to get from Stadium and Main to 94 West via Jackson Rd.

That said, there are plenty of good suggestions earlier in the thread for places to park.  I'd probably either park near the stadium or focus on parking North of the stadium so you're closer to downtown.  Walk around and have some fun after the game.  Go downtown for a bite to eat, or wander through the golf course or Pioneer or any of the many places people are tailgating and watch some of another game on one of the TVs people will have displayed.  I know that's fairly common because people always stop and watch ours.

Have fun, and Go Blue!

Heimerdinger

With as much Leage of Legends as I've played, I can't believe that never occurred to me until reading this post.  Good work!  :)

Seven Nation Army

While I'm a big fan of the White Stripes in general, and that song specifically, I'm strongly opposed to playing it in the Big House.  Is everyone else aware of just how often they play that at the Horseshoe, and how all of the Buckeye fans make a little "O" symbol with their hands? I believe they stole that from Oregon, maybe? They definitely didn't come up with it on their own, as usual, but they do it.  As do countless other schools.

When we're rawk-ing out to something that has been appropriated by our biggest rivals, who have been doing it for at least a year or two (if not longer), I think it makes us look foolish.

I know it won't be a popular opinion around here, but I prefer "In the Big House" being played if only because it is unique to us.  I'm in full agreement with the poster above who said that they'd prefer it came from an anonymous source rather than Nickelback's mascara-loving guitar techs, but at least I don't cringe and have "O-H.... I-O" flashbacks every time I hear it.

That stinks.  I saw Vada

That stinks.  I saw Vada shopping at Meijer like 4-6 weeks ago, and he looked healthier than I had expected.  I was hoping his prognosis was looking better.  Good luck to him and his family.

Chrome Frame

Hope I'm not too late to the party.

I don't know if your particular security policy will allow it, but Google Chrome Frame is a plugin for IE (including IE 6) that uses Chrome's rendering engine for the html and javascript inside of Internet Explorer.  If you were able to install it, you could just enable it for mgoblog and it should solve your problems.

Alternatively Brian (or his brother) could enable a meta-tag that will automagically force browsers that have Chrome Frame installed to use that rendering engine over IE's (which is a good thing).

Good luck!

There are 5 stages of grief.

A lot of us really liked Rich Rodriguez, and felt that he wasn't given a fair shake.  Some of the Rich Rod supporters had their faith waver, saw Jim Harbaugh as an acceptable replacement, and went along with the idea of cutting the RR experiment short contingent on his replacement being old #4 that all Michigan Fans remember.  The division isn't coming and didn't come from those of us that supported Rich Rod, quite the opposite.  The opposition had 3 years to close the gap, didn't do it, and then expect us to capitulate less than a week after the coach that we were all-in with got fired?

I think Rich Rod definitely had some flaws, but everyone who threw around the term "Michigan Man" while trying to run him out of town doesn't know the meaning of the term.  A "Michigan Man" is someone who loves the University, who conducts themselves with integrity and honor, who is hard-working and committed to making those young men in his charge into better people.  Rich Rodriguez was absolutely a "Michigan Man".  With some support from a united fan-base, I think he could have done great things here, and I think he still will somewhere else.  I thought from the beginning that he (or anyone) should get at least 4 years - one NCAA epoch - before any judgment should be made, but with at least half of the fans/alumni/former players actively trying to bring him down, he was fired too quickly.

I love Michigan football.  I agree 100% that all the fans need to stop this bickering and get behind a coach.  I will get behind Hoke and probably support him long after everyone else has stopped.  But you've got to at least give us time to get Rich Rod's body in the ground.  I promise I'll be there soon, and I bet Brian will be too.  We've already seen him go through Bargaining ("What about if we got a Coordinator from somewhere?  Anything but Hoke") and this post looks a little like Depression; Acceptance isn't that far away.
Carr Reaction

I can't believe it took all of, what, 3 hours before Lloyd Carr came out in support of Hoke.  If he could have just done that with Rich Rod, ever, I think so many things would have been different.  The large contingent of people that hated RR from day one should be ashamed of themselves.  Particularly those that are now hypocritically expecting everyone to immediately be on board with Hoke's hiring.

I will be on board with Hoke soon, much sooner than the other side was on board with Rich Rod (read: never), but it's going to take a little time to get over what I think was a situation handled extremely poorly.

Go Blue.

That's crazy

Apparently, I work with the good Ms. Macadangdang; I received an instant message from her this morning. I was like "Boy, that name sure sounds familiar..."

Then this item is posted and it reminds me where I heard it before. She has my vote!
