If nothing else, it's changed due to reorgs. Terry Myerson owns all of Windows and Devices, so there's at least some synergy there (devices will feature WIndows features and vice versa). Satya has also been good with supporting iOS and Android, which Balmer was slow to do.

This is true. I've been on both sides of this and both companies have come to the same conclusion. The cost of offering backwards compatibility is not worth the gain. Not only is it not worth the gain, it also offers diminishing returns over time as fewer people use it.
From a technical standpoint, this generation didn't provide enough of a performance boost to be able to easily emulate something like Cell (1 3.2 GHZ PPC core and 3.2 GHz 7 "SPU"s) with the new x86 architecture.
The good news is, I suspect all future generations will be backwards compatible, assuming they all stay on the x86 architecture.

Back to your original question... I have 2 XBones, 2 360s and a PS3.
To tell you the truth, the 360 is still the most often used console in the family.
I do think the "One" has the highest upside, given the delta between what the 360 used to be and what it is now. The upside is based more on non core gaming functions (integration with the MSFT ecosystem, entertainment/TV integration, etc.).
I do think the PS4 is a slick looking machine. MSFT was a little too cautious this time around with cooling post RROD. I've never been a big fan of Sony's software capabilities (outside of their gaming studios), but I do tend to lean Japanese in my gaming taste.
If I were you, I'd wait for the 2nd revisions of both machines and enjoy the newest PS3 or 360.

I don't think Sony was being totally truthful here. Some more details:
Basically, 3rd party publishers can implement some sort of DRM that would disable games, or at least online access.

I find the situation very odd. It's the publishers that are pushing for this, and will control it for the Xbox. Those same publishers also develop PS4 games. Are they just going to charge extra for the PS4 games without DRM? Did they change their minds and not tell MSFT? Did Sony lie to them?
|3 years 32 weeks ago||Emulating the Cell processor||
Emulating the Cell processor would be very difficult/annoying/expensive to do. PS2 is feasible, but people will pay to buy the IP again, so it's not worth the headache.

Same here. My current employer found me through LinkedIn and I regularly get emails from tech company recruiters through LinkedIn. I highly recommend it.
That being said, for a college student, I would think your best bet is to just get interviews through your career center.

Long story short: it's alright.
I've always had some trouble figuring out where a tablet fits within my gadget hierarchy. When I need something quick and on the go, I have my phone. If I have to do real work, I use a laptop. That being said, I could see where the RT could be a better productivity device than the iPad, but I don't think it's a better "consumption" device. It also has some fit and finish issues which will probably be fixed over time.

I think in general, alum fans are better than non alum fans. Also, Big 10 alums need a good reason to move to San Diego, San Francisco and Seattle... namely good jobs. There's little upside to being a douche at bar when you're pulling in 6 figures, feeding a family and living on the west coast.

Man... I was in the area, would have said hi if I knew.
You picked a nice time to come out. The weather was great. A clear day in Seattle is as, if not more beautiful than any place in the country.
That being said, the place is expensive. I've met plenty of nice MSU fans here. I suspect the group you met is filled with Microsoft and Amazon employees. Not exactly the coach burning/cooler pooper types.

People seem to forget that universities like Kansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Syracuse, Michigan State and UConn are good at college basketball. There's no reason Minnesota can't be good at basketball too. This arrogance has a place in college football, but it simply doesn't work in college basketball. Find a good coach, and you're the next Gonzaga, Arizona, etc..
|3 years 43 weeks ago||Just to be devil's||
Just to be devil's advocate... Minnesota Basketball is not Minnesota Football. There are a ton of good basketball prospects that come out of the Twin Cities area. The fan base is also a lot more interested in basketball than football. I think it's a school where you can do well with a much higher upside than football.
I think Minnesota's biggest problem in sports is Wisconsin. When you see your neighbor doing so much with so little, it drives you crazy.

Forget the Big East. Go look at the 1989 Big Ten.
MSU finished 8th with Steve Smith.
Michigan was 12-6, averaged 90 points a game and had Rice, Robinson, Vaught, Mills and Higgins. Iowa was 10-8 and loaded with talent. The Flying Illini even lost 4 games, and they would have wiped the floor with the teams in the Big Ten this year.

Heck, the 1989 Big Ten was better than this year and there was much more talent in the league in the early 90s.

|3 years 48 weeks ago||Saying he paid a recruit is||
Saying he paid a recruit is unfair. He lent Alex Radejovic's family money to pay for funeral expenses for the father who died in war torn Yugoslavia. This was after he was ruled inelgible to play in college.
O'Brien claimed Ohio State improperly fired him and sued the university for $3.5 million in lost wages and benefits. O'Brien argued his loan did not violate NCAA bylaws because he knew Radojevic already had lost his amateur status by playing for money overseas. At trial, Geiger, NCAA lead investigator Steve Duffin both testified that O'Brien made the loan for humanitarian reasons, not as an inducement to get Radojevic to sign with Ohio State. NCAA infractions committee chairman David Swank testified that O'Brien's actions did not violate NCAA rules. A judge found Ohio State had breached the contract and awarded O'Brien $2.4 million. The award was upheld on appeal to the Ohio Court of Appeals and Ohio Supreme Court.

|3 years 49 weeks ago||I hate this "we recruit||
I hate this "we recruit character" argument. You have no idea what type of kids these players will be and most of the recruits had offers from both OSU and Michigan. It just sounds like the MSU "we don't need higher ranked recruits because we develop them better" argument.
Michigan fans think their recruits have higher character, while OSU fans think a lot of Michigan recruits are dicks. Either way, it's silly.

I think people have been underestimating how hard Kerry Coombs has been recruiting Michigan. I don't ever remember OSU focusing this much on Michigan prospects. As someone else said, this is probably bad news for State, but it's obviously something Hoke will have to pay attention to.

Not really. Except for maybe Northwestern, they all follow the minimum NCAA guidelines. Some schools, like OSU and Michigan will take fewer academic risks because they can get away with it. For example, Minnesota, especially under Mason, took plenty of borderline academic players.
