Not saying you're wrong, because I don't know one way or the other, but saying that Tony Gibson is not remotely close to being someone of whom you can be proud when representing Michigan in public seems like it needs one of those evidence thingies.

It's an interesting point. From an EV point of view the question would be what is the average shooting percentage from a corner three as opposed to a wing or top of the key three.
My guess is that even in college it is higher (certainly it's higher in the NBA because of the shorter distance, which the Spurs figured out before anyone else), but this might be because of the drive and kick game. That is, if a G breaks down the defense and gets into the lane, it's easier for him to draw a defender from the corner and kick to the man in the corner, thereby creating a more open shot.
So it isn't that the shot is intrinsically easier the way it is in the NBA, but rather that it's the place that more open threes come from.

I don't really like the baby/bathwater solution you suggest, but it is pretty tedious to watch excessive fouling. Hack-a-Shaq, end of game, whatever.
I will say that the solution is to make your free throws, but also another thought is to trim the shot clock to 30 seconds. This would give teams marginally more possessions to come back and might reduce the need for excessive fouling. My logic comes from the NBA, where teams will play it down to a minute or so before starting to foul, since up until then they have so many more possessions to come back without fouling.

Man. I know nothing, of course, but coming out in THIS draft after two moderately successful (for individual stats) years...
Hopefully he'll go in the first round. No more Manny/Darius bizness.

I think "OT" in this case refers to "only topic." Like Denard is the only topic any of us should ever be considering, except not completely, so therefore "semi-OT."

I dunno, but
The twerk is a type of dancing in which an individual, usually a female, dances to popular music in a sexually provocative manner involving thrusting hip movements and a low squatting stance.
The twerp is a small or puny person; one regarded as insignificant, contemptible.
The teak is a tropical hardwood tree species Tectona grandis. The species is placed in the family Lamiaceae. Tectona grandis is a large, deciduous tree that is dominant in mixed hardwood forests. It has small, fragrant white flowers and papery leaves that are often hairy on the lower surface.

Just to be a bit argumentative, I think this is the problem with Michigan fandom. I under no circumstances expect that we will win the B10 next year. I aspire to it--I think that is the goal, no doubt. But if we don't, I won't think it's a failed year. Expectations should be based on reality, not blind hope (not saying that's what you were saying).
I just always find the "We're Michigan, fergodaskes, we should win every year" to be a hollow claim. There are a lot of other good teams out there and all of them are trying as hard as Michigan is to win. So then the difference is Jimmies, Joes, X's, O's, and luck. I think our Jimmies and Joes are young in many spots (OL!), and it remains to be seen whether our X's and O's are on par with Meyer's (on offense), Narduzzi's (on defense), and other coaches'. I also think we got a bit lucky in 2011 (recovered fumble %) and a bit unlucky in 2012 (Denard's elbow, etc.).

To me it's the indirectness of it that just kind of smells bad. Like, somebody hired Gene Smith, and it is his or her job to hire good people, who then hire and oversee coaches who coach players. So whoever hired Gene Smith should get a performance bonus.
On a different matter, sometimes I don't understand how rich people think. If I were Gene Smith I would take that money and help fund a non-athlete scholarship. What's he gonna do with it, buy a used Buick LeSabre? That money would be much better used on good PR for the athletic department.
It's this kind of thinking that has catapulted me to the 45th percentile of my chosen occupation, I realize, but still.

These findings also provide statistical support for the 5-12 and 7-10 "upsets" every year.
Any idea why that is? I mean, why the committee keeps underrating the 10s and 12s and overrating the 5s and 7s?
Also, any idea why there is asymmetry in the overperformance of 11-seeds (0.041) and the underperformance of 8-seeds (-0.116)? The other two matchups--7/10 and 5/12 are pretty symmetric w/r/t over- and under-performance.
