Go Sounders! Great season…

Go Sounders! Great season. Got a little lucky today but I will take it!

Things I most want to see in…

Things I most want to see in order:

1. Establish a dominant running game, with Onwenu/Ruiz/Bredeson looking great on the ground

2. Efficient passing game with decent pass protection

3. Defensive tackles get a clear win against WMU's interior O-line

Was going to post this exact…

Was going to post this exact thing. I didn't realize it live but that was almost certainly going for 6.

I actually feel quite a bit better about the offense after watching these. Still have some serious pass protection issues to fix but I think we were a lot closer to a decent offensive game than it seemed live.

This will be Tarik Black's…

Argh the dreaded double post! Maybe we should take that as an omen that I am wrong :)

This will be Tarik Black's…

This will be Tarik Black's 4th ever college game.

Peters played against Rutgers, Minnesota, and Maryland and DPJ had a total of 2 catches in those 3 games.

Edit: tbf DPJ did have 6 catches in the bowl game, I forgot about that because I try to forget that that game happened at all.

I fully expect both of those guys to be future NFL players and I hope they will be elite as soon as game one, I am just not expecting it.

I sure hope you are right…

I sure hope you are right but I get the feeling we lose this game.

I am high on Michigan this year overall but this just looks like a low scoring close loss to me. The passing game is not likely to click right away with a new QB and a group of receivers that is still really young. The offensive line won't be good enough for us to just lean on the running game either.

I think that our best chance of winning this game is that the defense pretty much wins it on it's own, but I am thinking something like a 17-13 loss.

The offense will get a lot better by midseason but I just don't see us lighting up a good defense on the road in game one.

To be fair to MLS

While it is certainly true that we want our best young players competing in the top leagues in Europe, we should actually give a lot of credit to MLS. Most MLS teams have invested a ton into their academies over the past 7-8 years and we are really starting to see the fruits of that.

Take Weston McKennie for example, he is a 19 year old playing in Germany and is definitely one of the brightest prospects for US soccer. Before that though he played in FC Dallas' academy system from the time he was 10 until he was 17. I think the development of MLS academies and the continued investment by MLS teams in having USL/youth clubs is going to be a major key for US soccer going forward.

Late arrivals

Read the question again, the journalist is specifically asking about the freshman that just arrived. Ruiz was an EE so he isn't in the group they are talking about.

That said I expect that Kugler will be the starting center, but this quote doesn't confirm anything.

Interesting

This was quite an interesting read. I moved into the City of Grand Rapids about two years ago and affordable housing is definitely the #1 issue over here too, interesting to see the similarities and differences between the situations and the local government's reaction.

Park in the lot on Mt. Hope, take the shuttle

Scott

Scott is legit, he is definitely my biggest concern about this game.

I am

Bought tickets off stubhub this morning for me and my dad. I will definitely be wearing maize, happy to be a part of the invasion!

Wiltnard

I voted for Wiltnard soley for the Asiasi block. Good lord that was awesome.

Georgia State

I think you guys confused Georgia State with Georgia Southern. Georgia Southern beat Florida in 2013. Georgia State is absolutely awful and has been awful for years. There is no excuse at all for how close Wisconsin came to losing to them.

Next week

Colorado is currently outgaining Idaho State 554 yards to 83(!) I mean I know Idaho State is probably awful but next week is looking like it will be a pretty good test.

28-6

28-6 Michigan.

Park

I took my dog to a park last night and walked him while catching a few pokemon. I talked to about 7 or 8 different people who were playing that I otherwise probably wouldn't have talked to so I thought that was cool. Hope no one punches me.

Torpedo

Haven't started yet but soon to crack a Sierra Nevada Torpedo.

Also haven't married yet but the date is coming up. My fiancee wanted a Saturday fall wedding and as much as it pained me I agreed to it because she is pretty great. So we picked the date Oct 15th and I immediately checked the schedule and see Penn State. I think, well that sucks pretty big game to miss. Lo and behold through the miracle power of Harbaugh a week later our schedule magically changes and October 15th becomes the bye week.

I am choosing to believe that this change was made soley because Harbaugh didn't want me to miss a game.

Dirty Blonde

right now, will be moving to some Sierra Nevada Pale Ale in a bit. May have to find something else too if the wings don't pull this out in the 3rd.

Yeah sorry

My first time creating a thread. I was worried it was clicky bait-y but I though "Fomer hockey star Cogliano becomes 2nd player in NHL history to play first 700 games of NHL career" was kind of long for a title.

Should probably ignore

I will go ahead and take that as Brian Cook Rabacks a triple 5 star class for Michigan. Seriously though these primers were great to read, sometimes following recruiting can be overwhelming but this was informative without being confusing.

Citradellic

From New Belgium.

Also just watched the signing with the stars video, anyone notice that at the end they scrolled the names of the recruits across the big screen on the stage and one of them is Keyshon Camp? Does that mean we expected to flip him and it didn't happen? Or just a weird random error? (It is at 2:25:22 of the video).

Additional fun fact

Michigan went 4-0 in Big Ten road games this year for the first time since 1997.

I'll never forget it

My dad and I drove out there for the game, it was the first game we ever went to together and was the start of a tradition where we try to go to a road game every year. We were sitting on the 5 yard line on that side of the field so we had a great view, one of my favorite sports memories.

Tight Ends

This could mean that due to how good the tight ends look/how much Harbaugh wants to use them we may not have a lot of snaps where there is a slot receiver on the field this year and choose to go with two tight ends instead. Could see a lot of Bunting/Butt motioning out into the slot.

Yes

The 23 man roster is the same that will be in the Gold Cup, the starting 11 may be different than who starts the Gold Cup matches but I imagine it will be similar.

No problem

I was wondering if it was selective memory based on the way his Michigan career ended...Thanks for this post though, great summary!

Guptill

Alex Guptill was also drafted by Dallas. Congrats to all the Michigan players who got drafted!

Barca

They are just too good. Also OT: OT: any soccer fans in West Michigan if you haven't already, check out GRFC. Great atmosphere at the game last night it was so much fun. Some cool pictures and video has been posted on the facebook page

Go Vols

So apparently when you don't get ESPNU you can't watch the game on ESPN3 even though it is supposed to be on ESPN2. I have suddenly become a huge Tennessee softball fan and if they could score a walk off here in the bottom of the 7th it would be great...

Edit: It happened! Yes!

Snow Day

Woot! How convient that there happens to be college basketball on at 6 a.m. today.

Team

I am excited for the season but I don't really have a favorite Premier League team. I use to have a least favorite: Manchester City. I like them more now that they are partnering with an MLS team and are supposidly going to be loaning some good young players over here though. So now I just root for teams with Americans on them.

Bottom line

Anyone catch what just scrolled on the bottom line? They listed 4 defenders including Cameron 5 Mids including Johnson and Dempsey as the lone forward. Don't know if that is updated or wrong but its interesting.

4-3-3

4-3-3 apparently. Cameron on the right side of midfield per ussoccer twitter.

4-2-3-1

I know it isn't ideal to shuffle around a lot of players but I wonder if this might work:

Dempsey

Johnson-Bradley-Bedoya

Jones-Beckerman

Beasley-Besler-Brooks-Cameron

Johnson is one of our most dangerous players going forward but only average defensively, so why not put him at left mid for this game so he can get forward and take advantage of Coentrao's absense and not have to try to defend against Ronaldo. Putting Cameron at right back, where he played all year in the EPL, seems like a much better option defensively against Ronaldo and Brooks seems like a viable option at center back after the Ghana game.

Its not ideal having Besler-Brooks as your center back pairing with the lack of experience but I am really worried Johnson at right back both that he won't be able to get involved offensively and that he might get abused defensively.

Goal line technology

Wow that was close.

Well crap

That was a horrible period. I really miss Zetterberg.

Absolutely

Goaltending duels are excellent as well. The best kind of hockey though is overtime playoff hockey. I am so happy we are about to see some.

Excellent

This is a very entertaining game, Pitt and Cbus isn't too shabby either. What a great start to the playoffs!

As a wise poster once said

People love to hate the best.

Montreal

Just scored a shorty as well. Crazy. 2-2 now in that game.

Another pp for Pitt

Maybe both teams will score during this one too.

Edit: Ok I guess just the one team will score. This game changed quickly.

Shorty!

Columbus goes up 3-1, wow.

GOAL

1-0 Tampa early, the home crowd is loving it.

Edit: 1-1 Montreal scores about 15 seconds later.

How about

Jack MF Johnson. I agree though, Columbus is certainly not the exciting team in the league.

Clemson

That entrance was...something. I don't know what is stranger, the bus thing or the fact that all the players/coaches kind of end up running onto the field individually.

Watching Toronto-Montreal

Pretty entertaining game so far,  2-1 Habs with 6 minutes to go in the first. After watching for a few minutes it dawned on me that these teams are now in the wings division and I have been smiling ever since.

The "ones" on defense

According to Dienhart's article at btn.com

Line: Tom Strobel; Chris Wormley (who is a specimen); Quinton Washington; Frank Clark. Linebackers, Joe Bolden; James Ross; Secondary, Blake Countess; Thomas Gordon; Jarrod Wilson; Courtney Avery; Raymon Taylor.

Obvious ommision is Desmond Morgan, not sure if that is worth reading into or not.

Stallworth According to 247 stallworth also committed to state today.
Holden

Not sure where you found that but according to US soccer's twitter Holden is starting, not Diskerud.
