FWIW. Michigan doesn't seem inclined to get re-involved.

Living just south of Fort Myers, I had the opportunity to watch Ricky Doyle play in the Palms City tournament over the Christmas Holiday against some of the nation's best talent. Don't sleep on him. He is not Beifeldt 2.0. He isn't significantly more athletic, but his is much, much more skilled. He is the number 5 player in Florida and rated a five-star talent by Florida Hoops. Florida has some great players.
Ricky has one of the smoothest softest shots I've seen from a big fella. He was matched up against a Colorado team with two Division I bigs and lit them up for 23 with zero support. Not one of his shots from the floor hit the rim. His face up game is superb. Give him space and he will bury it. Back to the basket game? Well, in Bielein's offense who really cares. Defensively, he isn't the fastest afoot, but with some work and conditioning he will be competent. Definitely not a shot blocker. Rebounding is decent, but he isn't a great leaper.
Closest comparator I can think of is a 6'10" Frank Kaminsky who is a bit thicker and not quite as quick under the basket. He is a shooter who draw an opponents big to the perimiter and over time will add some defense and rebounding. Okay, I'll go there -- Pittsnogle 2.0, but a little more athletic.

I renewed today, but almost missed it. I did send an email to the ticket office chastising them for moving renewal date up from May 15th to tax day (WTF I see more than enough money go out of my account that day, just stick another fork in me) and for not sending out their maize renewal envelope this year about 45 days in advance. The first notice I received was the email Tuesday notifying me I was late and had until this Friday. Not real happy with their process this year.

I never received a letter in the mail, nor did I receive an email prior to April 15th. I received an email late last week stating I have until this Friday to renew.
In the past the renewal date was May 15th, not April 15th and I received a letter at least 45 days in advance letting me know.
Seems like the keystone cops have taken over the ticket office. I planned on calling them Thursday when I return home.

I was at a dinner last month and had a chance to speak to Gene Keady for about ten minutes. We talked Michigan basketball as much as Purdue basketball. I had to laugh when he said, "Can you believe what Fisher is doing at San Diego State? He must have hired some good assistants because when I coached against him he had tons of talent but didn't have a clue what he was doing."

I thought Morgan was a solid, steady contributor his first 2-1/2 years until he rolled his ankle last year. His mobility was severly limited and he lost his confidence because of it. McGary stepped in last year and stepped up. Due to his back injury, McGary was suffering this year from a bit of what plauged Morgan last year. Morgan is obviously healthy and playing confident again and that is a huge plus for this team.

As a fanbase the Buckeyes have zero credibility. Most will lie to themselves and others to justify their idiocy. No charges have been filed because either others have not corroborated the bucknut's story or their are too many inconsistencies. Maybe the drunk bucknut just fell off his cooler and hit his own face and Lewan, in the vicinity, laughed at him.

His body is similar to Jordan Morgan's, but they have very different skillsets. Doyle is a much better shooter and much smoother around the rim. Defensively, Morgan is much better. That said, it is hard to judge Doyle's upside defensively as he is only 17 and he was playing against kids nearly his height, but 30 lbs lighter. I agree he will be a solid contributor. Definitely a Big Ten body. Definitely a good find by the coaching staff.
If he had one or two decent players on the court with him, it would have helped him immensely. There isn't a single player on his team who would start on any decent Michigan high school program. He can't come off the floor as his team would get run, he gets all the defensive attention, and he is still averaging 30 a game.

Stopped by the City of Palms Classic here in Fort Myers today to take a look at 2104 committment Ricky Doyle of Fort Myers Bishop Verot High School (the host school). Ricky's team played Denver East in the first round of the tournament and was handled quite easily by 20 points.
Ricky's stat line wasn't great as his teammates were clearly overmatched by the length and quickness of Denver East. However, I'll state this:
He passes the look test. At 6'9" and 235 pounds, he had the most solid frame I saw today -- and I saw a lot of top 150 players.
The kid can shoot the basketball. I don't recall him missing a shot. He was deadly from 10 feet and in. He hit mostly face-ups over a 6'7" kid who could jump. He also hit a really nice fade-away from about 6 feet with a couple of defenders in his face. If his teammates could feed him the ball or have drawn the defence out by hitting a few shots from outside, he could have kept his team in the game. Super soft touch around the rim. Good finisher. He had a couple dunks -- one on a rebound right under the basket and a tomahawk on three step drive down the lane.
He can rebound. I was very impressed with was his ability to locate defenders and move his feet to put his body between the defender and the basket.
Footwork was solid. He didn't stand around. On offensive he moved his feet and called for the ball when open. On defense he moved quite well, but was forced to clean up too much of his teammates being beat off the dribble.
Hands are still a question. Denver East was all over him when he caught the ball. If he didn't catch it cleanly (and he didn't early) or if he put it on the floor down low, the ball was headed down the other way quickly. He seemed to adjust to the competition in the 2nd quarter and I don't recall but maybe one turnover in the last three quarters.
Get this kid in the weightroom to add some upper body strength and give him a little time to adjust to the competition (there is none in SW Florida) and I think he'll be a very solid contributor. Closest comparator I can think of is Courtney Sims.
Note: Ricky is the #5 rated player in Florida.
|32 weeks 6 days ago||The problem is symantics. I||
The problem is symantics. I think we all realize, but do not want to admit, when a kid says "I commit to", there is no contract behind it. The signed LOI is the binding contract; therefore, when a kid says, "I commit to" what is really meant is "I plan to commit to". When you read into this Crawford's plan hasn't changed; our plan of this kid not taking visits anywhere else has changed. Could his plans change? Sure, but why get worked up with it if he is communicating his plans with our coaching staff?
Also, Michigan's rules aren't no visits, it is no visits without talking to the coaches first. Seems like that rule is selectively misunderstood by the media and used against our coaching staff to stir up more interest in recruiting. Whatever.

In situations where I can't control the outcome, I've learned not to tie my personal self worth to any result. I wish Michigan would have won, but it was obvious they played their hearts out. How can you not be satisfied with 100% irrespective of whether you have kids or not? FWIW, I don't have kids.
|33 weeks 6 days ago||Toussaint is a solid 3rd down||
Toussaint is a solid 3rd down screen option because he has good hands and can make the short open field cuts, but his running style could not succeed behind our line. It makes a big difference in the running game when the backs you play accelerate to the hole, keep their legs moving and drive through tackes versus stopping, dancing and falling backwards when hit. You can't get away with playing running back on your heels unless you are Barry Sanders. This was the pass blocking tactic for several five to seven sack games as well. Fred Jackson should be retire. Green and Smith were clearly better than Toussaint the second half of the season and gave us the best chance to win yet had far fewer carries/plays than Toussaint.

|34 weeks 2 days ago||I live in Florida and I will||
I live in Florida and I will renew my tickets every year. I'm not concerned about a down year this year. This year's team was a few players away from being a 10-2 team. With some maturity on the interior OL and a couple more playmakers, we would have beaten Penn State, Nebraska and Iowa for sure. MSU and OSU would have been tossups with Al Borges and certain wins if any number of people on this board called the plays (or so I've been told).
I think people withdrawing their financial support because of a few down years are a bit too prideful, but whatever. See ya'll in Jacksonville (assuming that is where we end up). Go Blue!

Last year Trey Burke took over the game when it was on the line. We all complained when it seemed as if it was all Trey and the others appeared to stand around and watch. This team found a quite bit of it's identity yesterday. Turning to the two man game with Stauskas and McGary down the stretch should win a lot of games.

The SEC vs. out of conference BCS teams: 6-6. Of the six wins (VaTech, Wash St, UNC, Indiana, TCU, TX), these teams have won a total of one out of conference BCS game. The SEC is Alabama, a bunch of unproven teams, and a few terrible teams, e.g., KY and Ark. The PAC-12 and ACC have better resumes out of conference.
