The refs' whistles were in Doug Gotlieb's ass for most of Cuse's 2nd half comeback.  Thankfully they were extracted before the last call  (just in case you were wondering what make Dougie so sore).

7 weeks 3 hours ago Ah, South U.  I was in my

Ah, South U.  I was in my final year of grad school.  I remember a student swinging from the blinker light on the corner of South U and I believe Church St, a crowd of people jumping up and down on top of a news van, and someone making obsene thrusting motions from a roof through an awning with a metal pole removed from said awning.  Not your typical evening on South U.  Much more visual stimulation than usual.

There were a lot of complaints about students gone wild; however, I recall much of the damage to cars and the news van being done by people who didn't look much like students -- they looked more like liberal arts professors.

8 weeks 5 days ago Three other non-calls that grind me...

When an offensive player gets a step on a defender, the defender is allowed to place his rear fist into the offensive players stomach holding and slowing his progress to the basket.  This is an obvious foul.  Why reward the defender for not moving his feet?

Stepping underneath a shooter's hip on a drive to the basket pushing him away from the basket, altering his balance and again rewarding a defender for not moving his feet.

A poorly positioned rebounder lacking position placing their hand on the lower back/hip of the well positioned rebounder throwing the well positioned rebounder's timing off and allowing the poorly positioned rebounder the ability to get their hands on the ball.

Or, in other words, how Wisconsin plays basketball, and the reason they can't win outside of the BIG -- because non-BIG refs make some of these calls.

9 weeks 6 days ago Beilein is a very, very good

Beilein is a very, very good coach.

People are overreacting.  Michigan's struggles this year happened after their only experienced post defender (Morgan) got hurt.  His defensive movement of late has been pretty poor.  On offense, he lost the ability to finish he had early in the year.  Watch the first few minutes of each of the last three games and it is obvious he is playing nowhere near the level he played before the injury.

A lot of our losses were close.  A completely healthy Morgan and I believe we beat Wisconsin at Wisconsin, Penn State at Penn State, Indiana at home and we win the Big Ten Championship outright.

About the bitching on how our bigs get abused.  Well, Michigan chooses not to constantly double-down when the ball comes inside.  They often protect the passing lanes to prevent kick-outs for open looks or to cutters.  So, you will see a lot of opponent's bigs handle Michigan's bigs one-on-one.  You also see some missed assignments anyways where a cutter beats a defender to the lane for an easy two.  That is not scheme, it is mostly lack of recognition due to inexperience.

About the bitching on rebounding.  We rebounded right with Wisconsin yesterday.  Our poor rebounding games have been against State and Indiana.  Two teams that are just a lot bigger and more mature then Michigan.  Beilien finally went with two bigs in the Penn State game and it paid off.  I thought he should have that against Wisconsin yesterday as well.

Hopefully, a week of rest will help Morgan's ankle and confidence.  His play is the key to going deep into the tournament.

Well, he created an excuse to get out of Florida just before a trainwreck.

15 weeks 18 hours ago Rule #1:

If you have nothing nice to say, say it about Ohio.

18 weeks 4 days ago Friends of mine here in Florida say the same thing...

...including two former Florida football stars from the 1980's who coach at local high schools I interact with weekly -- and not because he takes recruits or left his job under false pretenses.  The two former Gators refused to support the program under Meyer even when they were winning championships due to his lack of character.  They verified this story from the Sporting News in 2009:

"Left in the wake of Meyer’s resignation were problems that can destroy a coaching career: drug use among players, a philosophy of preferential treatment for certain players, a sense of entitlement among all players and roster management by scholarship manipulation.

The coach who holds himself above the seedy underbelly of the game, who as an ESPN television analyst in 2011 publicly berated the ills of college football, left a program mired in the very things he has criticized.

“The program,” former Florida safety Bryan Thomas said, “was out of control.”"

The environment he created at Florida was so bad, once he took the job at OSU he was telling recruits' parents not to send their kids to Florida because of the mess he created.  Parents do your homework!

Both former Gators are highly supportive of Will Muschamp by the way and are once again encouraging their players to look at Florida.  They are also developing good relationships with the Michigan coaches and have a ton of respect for the program.

While people were complaining to me about 100+ degree temps and high humidity in MI this Summer, it was never above 93 degrees here on the Gulf Coast with a daily shore breeze, moderate humidity (the sun burns it off), and no bugs.  Those who complain about Florida Summers live too far from the beach.

24 weeks 1 hour ago I believe the author is

I believe the author is focused on the wrong story and I'm not sure any of you did any investigation beyond the author's twisted perspective.  Lizzy Seeburg never claimed she was raped.  She claimed a football player fondled her breasts, she demanded he stop, he did, then she left.  Both before and after the incident she told her psychiatrist she was contemplating suicide.  I think the Lizzy Seeburg story is less about ND football then it is about her family and Doctors not protecting her from herself.  ND football, although a part of her story (a small part), just seems to be a convenient target to afflix blame for her suicide.

The heart of the story should be the unnamed student where witnesses supported her allegation of rape, there is evidence of coersion by football players to not file charges, and there is proof of lackadaisical follow-up by authorities.  Yet, the author focuses on Lizzy Seeburg and intentionally misleads her audience to believe she was raped.  Why?  Ms. Seeburg's suicide becomes a lightening rod for sympathizers and furthers the author's cause -- which the basic tenents I support, but why mislead?  It should be obvious enough -- rape is a horrible crime.

Four years ago I met a player from Coach Beilein's first high school team he coached  who absolutely raved on and on about Coach's knowledge of the game, his ability to develop his players, and his ability to adapt his staff and system to the talent.  He said then the only thing holding him back from being a legendary coach was the right job.  I asked if Michigan was the right job and he said with all the basketball talent in the Midwest and the Michigan name, yes.  I see him every year at Christmas time and he still talks to Coach Beilein several times a year.

24 weeks 5 days ago Stauskas is a ligitimate

Stauskas is a ligitimate triple threat. He reminds me a lot of Chris Mullen. He can shoot from outside, drive and pass.  Teams will need to put one of their better defenders on him.  This will open up the floor for others -- so, although he may not be able to maintain his shooting percentage, he'll improve others' shooting percentages. Michigan is a much better offensive team with Nik on the floor.

25 weeks 5 days ago Mentioned, but not discussed,

Mentioned, but not discussed, is the fullback play. Two plays stood out.  One time Hopkins ran to the hole and stopped.  The running back ran into his back, then the pursuit tackled him for no gain.  If Hopkins runs through the hole, even if he doesn't put a hat on anyone, the running back makes positive yardage, probably 5-6 yards.  The other play was a sweep with Denard.  With two pulling lineman in front of Denard, Hopkins fails to peel off and take the linebacker who made the tackle for about an 8 yard gain.  The two linemen obliterated two OSU DBs.  If Hopkins puts a hat on the linebacker that play was going for 15, 20, maybe a TD.
