John Beilein is done with…

John Beilein is done with the daily grind and comfortably semi-retired at his homes in Naples, Florida and Petoskey, Michigan.  He is fine with his advisory role with the Pistons and occasional appearances on BTN.

Nate Oats has too much baggage.

Shaka Smart tried the Power 5 at Texas and failed.  He seems to thrive at the mid-major level.

Steve Alford is 60 years old.  How much longer will he stick around?

That leaves Dusty May on your list.  He has built a nice program at FAU and he is a Midwest guy.  He would be an intriguing hire.

To a man, I believe anyone…

To a man, I believe anyone who played high school and college basketball for John Beilein absolutely loved the man and he loved them back.  Coach Beilein just coached and demanded fundamentally sound basketball on both ends of the court.  The lack of fundamentally sound basketball on either end under Juwan is astounding. They play like it is summer pickup ball.

Not defending Warde, but Jim…

Not defending Warde, but Jim was $8.5M plus incentives.  Sherrone is $6.5M plus incentives.  $2M difference.  I believe Warde is saying he went over budget an extra $2M on assistants and staff per Jim's request.  Now that he's "saved $2M" by Jim leaving, he back to the 2023 budget.  Had Jim stayed, the $11.5M plus incentives would have been a $3M increase to the budget.

What a shame. He'll only…

What a shame. He'll only fail to chase the Don down from behind one day per year now.

Isn't that four 5-star…

Isn't that four 5-star corners in the last two classes?  I smell transfers coming.

Their entire fanbase has…

Their entire fanbase has infested themselves with this incestuous panacea.  I have to deal with this epidemic from Buckeyes in Southwest Florida.  Its boring and explaining it to them is a waste of time.  I say let them starve on their false nourishment.  It is all they have.

Sibling rivalry?  John…

Sibling rivalry?  John Harbaugh's base salary is $12M.  The $11.5M originally offered Jim would have kept him the second highest paid coach in his family.

The statement "lack of NIL"…

The statement "lack of NIL" is just plain incorrect.  Michigan has an incredibly strong Name-Image-and-Likeness program.  What is differentiating the Miami's, Texas A&M's, Georgia's, Alabama's, and now it appears OSU's is our lack of an illegal pay-for-play program.  The NCAA has really lost control of college football and needs to be replaced with a governance board that will lobby to establish a level playing field vs. focusing on who zoomed into a workout session during COVID or bought a cheeseburger.  It is coming, but there are going to be a lot of wild swings in talent migration as boosters learn their lessons. Watching a kid grab $1M from you and then not work for it will eventually reset how boosters approach the market.  Texas A&M has really backed off after their plethora of five stars grabbed their bags, under-achieved, got their coach fired, then eventually all transferred.  If you are going "cheat successfully", then I would agree with a model where you are paying a known commodity such as a Caleb Downs vs. unproven high schoolers. If that means recruiting four stars and developing them vs. five stars who are a coin toss whether they will care enough to develop, then supplementing by paying known talent to transfer, so be it.

Aggravated assault.

Aggravated assault.

Thank you, I saw 30…

Thank you, I saw 30 conference titles as a criterion and immediately thought, "good-bye ND."  Then I see ND show up and wonder why the hell do they deserve an exemption.  The number is 7 blue-bloods!

I am going to share some…

I am going to share some love for Jaylen Harrell.  He has one year of eligibility left.  He has been a consistent force on the edge his entire career. He is our 2023 sack leader and a two-time all-Big Ten honoree.  The word is he is leaning to the NFL, but it would be great to see him come back in 2024.

Just tell him, "Those who…

Just tell him, "Those who stay, will be champions!"

Oh crap.  He already is.  There is no better coach for Michigan.  He is the perfect fit.

Stay Jim.  Be a champion again, and again, and again.....

Presently live in the Fort…

Presently live in the Fort Myers area and have seen Carter Smith play.  Very athletic -- similar to JJ.  I would assume the only thing you can knock the kid for is he likely isn't quite as polished as JJ at the same age because he spent his summers playing baseball and not in 7-on-7 competitions and football camps.  With his commitment, it will be interesting to see if he shifts focus next summer to more football related activities.  Also, I know several people who know him and his family and they say he is a great kid and great leader.

I have also spent a bit of time on the bayou.  I'll just say there is a reason Louisiana is one of the few states in the south where more people are moving out than moving in.  Baton Rouge is a bit isolated from the crud around it because it is a college town.  We will see how happy he and his family are there. I know I'm not a fan, but different strokes....

Is it Monday yet?  See y'all in Houston!

There are always two sides…

There are always two sides to every conflict.  Perhaps, as indicated in several reports, Sanderson shouldn't have undermined the program in front of his boss and the team. As the boss, putting an end to that behavior and making sure it doesn't fester/spread is part of Juwan's job.  Juwan likely reacted to keep the team aligned and focused on their goals by either bringing Sanderson back in line or pushing what he perceived to be a malcontent out the door.  It certainly is not part of Sanderson's job to publicly undermine his boss by critiquing the culture he has established - good, bad, or average.  Given Juwan has very openly praised Sanderson's work in the past, I can see why he took exception.

C'mon guys, we already have…

C'mon guys, we already have flying cars.

Doroni Aerospace, Pompano Beach, FL just received FAA approval.

Flying car companies based in the U.S.:

  • Alef Aeronautics - San Mateo, California

  • Eve Air Mobility - Melbourne, Florida
  • Joby Aviation - Marina, California
  • Archer Aviation - Palo Alto, California
  • Jaunt Air Mobility - Dallas, Texas

I can't remember who…

I can't remember who mentioned it, Klatt maybe, but they showed some clips on some check downs to Donovan and in most instances he was standing or sliding.  They mentioned how much easier he is to contain from a standing start vs. having him running a crossing route or bursting outside as the check down.  They suggested he would be a much more potent weapon in the next two games if the coaches made that little adjustment.  Donovan is such a mismatch at full speed in the open field or one-on-one with a LB.  Not as much between the tackles or from a standing start.  Food for thought anyways.

Poor damn Peyton.  He'll…

Poor damn Peyton.  He'll always be #2 to some "random" Michigan guy.

I am ashamed at some of the…

I am ashamed at some of the responses here.  We all need to be more respectful of our rival. While you may make fun of them, I clearly see two displays of OSU's superior toughness -- Ryan Day and his Buckeyes showing out while winning the pre-game dance-off!  Teams should cower in fear of the Buckeye's ability to throw down pre-game!  Look out Dallas, Texas and the Missouri Tigers.  Fear the nuts!  At least until kick-off.

Well, now I understand…

Well, now I understand Cignetti's comments.  Michigan, Ohio State, and Purdue are sucking all of the talent out of IU.

What if UGA beats Bama,…

What if UGA beats Bama, Oregon beats Washington, Louisville beats FSU, and Texas beats Okie State?  Would they dare put Ohio over conference champion Texas in the 4 spot?  I can't see the justification.

There is a very pleasing…

There is a very pleasing aesthetic difference without Hunter.  Hunter forced a halfcourt game on both ends as he ran the floor poorly.  For his size, he  was a below average rim protector because of his lack of mobility.  Last year, the inside out game was less effective because we didn't have enough guys on the floor at the same time capable of consistently knocking down threes.  They could sag a guy or two on Hunter in the post while laying off the two or three guys we ran out there who weren't consistent from three. It was frustrating to watch.

Dug's hard work to improve his ability to finish at the hole and hit the three makes him a dynamic point guard and major threat with the ball in his hands (so far in three games).  That was not the case last year. Tschetter is playing under control and within the offense. HIs energy off the bench was always great, but it is controlled this year (so far).  Love his improvement. The three transfers are much more athletic than the guys they replaced and they can all handle the ball and finish on the break.  I believe Reed is a better rim protector than Hunter as he can move his feet to disrupt shots.  Nearly every guy outside of Reed is an average or better threat from three.

This team has been, and will be, fun to watch!!!

JMHO

Experts can correct me, but…

Experts can correct me, but it looked like we ran less inside zone with the extra beef on the field.  In the past two years we ran a ton of power and counters.  The extra linemen made our attack look more like 2021 and 2022.

Buckeye fans have become insufferable.  They eat up the misinformation like rapid dogs, then join in their howling party about what a great meal they are eating not realizing it is their own vomit.  I've resorted to posting laughing emoji's on all their stupid comments.

This thread is gold. Mention…

This thread is gold. Mention Sound of Freedom and heads explode.  It isn't difficult to take a stand against all human trafficking - so just do it.  Having just heard the story from my wife's cousin who was enticed into a relationship with a very wealthy individual and then continually drugged and sold to his influential friends (think Hollywood and politicians) at lavish pay-to-play parties and your perspective changes from this could be serious to this is a f'n outrage and there are actually very well-known people enabling and protecting this because they would be implicated and jailed if they didn't. Hollywood attempted to block its distribution for a reason.  Also, I've heard from my Sister about the long list of barcode tattoos removed from women and children by my brother-in-law who is a plastic surgeon.  Don't diminish the importance of this movie -- even if it only shows a sliver of the trafficking occurs.  Just that statement there, "it only depicts a sliver" should speak volumes about how widespread and serious human trafficking has become.

Taverna Opa on International…

Taverna Opa on International Drive is a dinner party. Food is good, belly dancers, patrons dancing on tables, etc..  If you can tolerate the loud music, it is a fun time.  Large parties need reservations.

Nona Blue Modern Taverna in Lake Nona is owned by my UofM grad school roommate and Graham McDowell.  The food is good and Lake Nona Golf & Country Club is home to a lot of famous athletes, coaches, etc., who frequently show up for dinner.

You do realize these guys…

You do realize these guys aren't from Florida.  They are just in Florida "enjoying" their retirement spending their time golfing and kickboxing.

99% of private equity is…

99% of private equity is white hat.  It is the retirement plan for a large number of small business owners looking to exit and retire.  They often create business continuity and job retention.  Don't label all private equity as a scourge.

That said, private equity does have its villains.  If you are looking for the biggest villain, look at a black hat private equity group like Blackrock.  If you realize what is going on, i.e., Blackrock's rapid accumulation of assets, their tracking of white hat private equity investments, their collaboration with the U.S. Government, etc. you'd be pissed as hell.  They are manipulating the bond, stock, and ETF markets; driving real estate prices through the roof; they were recently given a seat on the Fed's Board; they are the primary economic advisor to the present administration; they are enriching Congressional members behind our backs; etc..

IMG isn't technically a …

IMG isn't technically a "school".  It is a sports academy focused solely on the development of athletes.  They talk "school" but the school part is (was) outsourced to Laurel Springs Academy.  Laurel Springs is an online K-12 educational program based in Pennsylvania.  Laurel Springs' claim to fame is their parental monitoring system allowing the parents to be more involved in directing and tracking their student's progress.  The new owner of IMG, BPEA EQT, owns Nord Anglia Education, a similar online K-12 educational platform but much, much larger than Laurel Springs and international in scope.  IMG is simply a $1.25B add-on to the BPEA EQT education platform. My take is BPEA EQT is purchasing the IMG model for athlete development and integrating it with Nord Aglia with the intent of opening IMG-like academies around the world.  Hence, they are really buying a scalable business model with a plan for substantial ROI.

That is obviously a poor…

That is obviously a poor call.  I still play about 100 baseball games per year in leagues and tournaments.  The batter was on the verge of being tossed for his theatrics and drawing the line of the pitch before with his bat.  Drawing the line is showing up the umpire and it will piss them off every time.  I had a pitch bounce in the other batter's box called a strike.  I stepped on the plate and showed the umpire where the ball made a mark with the end of my bat and simply said, "that pitch hit right here".  I got tossed.  One thing I've learned about hitting a baseball -  You get three strikes; make one of them count.  But do not ever show up the umpire like that or they will either run you or expand the zone (usually not that much though).

The best thing to happen to…

The best thing to happen to college FB is the BTN's "BIG Football in 60".  It gives me half of my Saturday back.  Other than the Michigan game and huge non-conference games that interest me, if there is a BIG game of interest, I just monitor the score on Saturday then wait to tape the 60 minute version and watch it during the week without the stupid commercial breaks.

But with that big staff…

But with that big staff bonus Mel receives, why would anyone depart?

It has been nearly 40 years,…

It has been nearly 40 years, but he was really a good dude.  I had a class with him my Junior year.  He was always in class, attentive, and willing to chat about the subject matter and football, of course.  We are both coaches' sons, so there was that connection about being brought up loving the game as well as having additional motivation, focus, and discipline because of who we are.  There was a reason he was team captain.  Just a great addition in my book.

It is all about the pitching…

It is all about the pitching.  Last year the pitching staff had a difficult time getting ahead on the count.  When you are always pitching from a 2-0, or 3-1 count, you aren't going to fare well.  Walks combined with 2-0 and 3-1 fastballs was the recipe for their near 7.0 ERA.  The staff seemed completely lost in their approach and their confidence destroyed.  It was frustrating and frankly brutal to watch.  Guys who pitched well in 2021 couldn't find the plate in 2022.  That is on the pitching coach.  I have to believe we will see significant improvement from the pitching staff.  The arm talent is there.

"Assault" rifles are nothing…

"Assault" rifles are nothing more than semi-automatics.  The vast majority of guns (handguns and rifles) are semi-automatic, i.e., one bullet is fired per one trigger pull.  If you banned all semi-automatics, there isn't much left to adequately protect yourself from any threat.  Being able to carry is the only thing that kept me from being beaten to a pulp when leaving my business with cash on a nightly basis.

Bump stocks are independent of magazine capacity.  Bump stocks use the rifle's mass during recoil to reduce time between trigger pulls, which increases your firing rate.  Bump stocks are illegal.

Magazines and/or clips have also been limited in capacity.  Let's say you are sitting in a deer blind and your rifle jams, how many bullets from your 9mm handgun will it take to drop a black bear charging you?  Seven? Eight?  Most handgun clips hold 10 rounds.  Don't miss.

Vendors cannot anonymously sell a gun at a gun show.  They must adhere to state laws. State laws require appropriate background checks, registration, and licensing for handguns.  Individuals can attend and barter and trade just as they can barter and trade anywhere (the streets, online).  Unregistered gun show sales are far less common than you think.  I have only seen a few "sideline sales" in the many gun shows I have attended.

The vast majority of these mass killers have never taken a gun class.  They do not have a CCP.  They've never hunted.  They are mentally ill.  They have exhibited numerous warning signs.  They mostly obtain the gun illegally.  This shooter checked all of these boxes.  This is a VERY difficult problem to solve.

A cease & desist letter is…

A cease & desist letter is actually the polite way to go about it.  The impolite way would be to let Lewan and Barstool sell the t-shirts and then sue them for the revenue.  At least now they have the opportunity to negotiate a deal with the UofM Licensing Department -- which isn't difficult.
