2 days 7 hours ago Little Bro?

Well, since I started the thread, allow me to ask your forgiveness for thinking it might be of interest that a QB recruit whom probably the two most significant opponents on Michigan's schedule both wanted just made his decision.  Next time I decide to start a thread about anything other than how awesome Michigan, or that expresses anything other that arrogant indifference to what any other teams are doing, I will be sure to ask you permission first.

2 days 12 hours ago Michigan Schwag

I don't really collect memorabilia.  But I think my #EATING and Desmond "Strike-a-Pose" shirts are pretty cool.  Plus I still have the old Tyrone Wheatley #6 Russell Athletic replica jersey that I bought 20 years ago during my freshman year at M--which I think is cool but most other people probably think needs to be replaced.

2 days 12 hours ago Early Enrollees

I see.  I believe it is permissible to exceed the 85-scholarship limit during the off-season, so long as the team can show how it will get down to 85 by the fall.  In fact, I believe M had more than 85 on scholarship this spring, due to a number of early enrollees.

2 days 12 hours ago Seniors

You mean, do players who will be seniors in 2013 and graduate in spring 2014 count toward the 85-scholarship limit for fall 2014?  The answer is no.  The departures of those players (plus any unplanned attrition)  is what makes room for the 2014 recruits to enroll.

2 days 12 hours ago Early Enrollees

There is not a limit on how many can enroll early.  However, if players enroll early, the team has the option of counting them toward the prior year's recruiting class (thus enabling you to sign more than 25 players in one cycle).  I think there is a limit on how many you can do that for, though I don't think that rule is relevant to Michigan's situation right now because they don't have enough space under the 85 scholarship cap to sign anywhere near 26 players in 2014.

2 days 14 hours ago Win-Wins

Well, admittedly I don't like OSU having awesome ultra-QBs like Braxton Miler.  I much prefer the old days, when their quarterbacks were pretty good but always inhibited by some fatal flaw.  I mean, come on--it was much more fun watching Stanley Jackson complete passes to Michigan DBs than watching Braxton Miller complete passes to his own receivers.  It was much better seeing Terelle Pryor subject OSU to ridicule and NCAA investigations than see Braxton Miller continually fail to embarrass his program and never say a single word about everybody murdering.

Nebraska doesn't really concern me as much.  I don't think they will be able to recruit well enough to ever return to their 20th century glory days.  So let them have the guys off Meyer's board.

2 days 14 hours ago Ha ha

And of course, the name is pronounced without the "r."

2 days 15 hours ago Darlington

Admittedly I am unable to connect that reference.  I auotmatically associate the name Darlington with NASCAR and the movie Days of Thunder, and can't process anything bearing on other topics.

I was the 2,000,000th customer of 1993 at the Meijer Thrifty Acres on Tittabawassee Road in Saginaw. I won a $100 gift certificate and a basket of Bob Evans pork products, as well as a commemorative 9x12 plaque.

2 days 18 hours ago Jane Austen

Cope's familiarity with Jane Austen might make his grammar corrections more authoritative, but at what cost to his cred on a football site?

3 days 2 hours ago Offers

I kind of wonder what, if any, effect Cornwell's offer sheet had on UM's decision to offer Speight instead.  It was widely-reported that Borges wanted whichever QB he picked to commit immediately (though the reason for that was never made clear).  Cornwell, given the options available to him, might have been less likely to do that--which may have tipped the scale to Speight.

Right here. But my favorite is actually an offshoot of the Manhattan called the Old Pal. It's bourbon (or rye) with Campari & dry vermouth, up with an orange twist.

3 days 16 hours ago Real

It has been suggested that one must himself be "real" in order to appreciate other forms of "real."

3 days 17 hours ago Linked article

The linked article is weird.  The amount of $$ in that tweeted photo looks pretty substantial--probably a few thousand dollars at least.  If I am a journalist and some big-time football recruit tweets a photo like that, I am going to start looking at who's recruiting him and where he might have gotten the money.  Instead, the writer is just like, "put your stash away, KD, before people get the wrong impression."  Nothing to see here, I guess.

[insert screed on woeful state of American mainstream media]

3 days 17 hours ago Boise State stats

Last summer I scoured the internet looking for stats on Borges' offense at Boise State, and was pretty surprised to find nothing available.  So, I e-mailed the Boise State SID asking if they could help me out.  To this day, I have still received no response from anyone at Boise State.  For a while, I was kind of pondering whether their lack of response might be some kind of open records violation, though probably not since I don't live in Idaho and the SCOTUS has just ruled that states don't have to answer public records requests from out-of-state requesters.  Still though, to hell with Boise State.

Let's just hope that all the work and no players makes Jack a dull non-conference opponent.

6 days 11 hours ago Offensive Line

I think you mean huge, mean, technically-sound dudes who have "whatever the opposite of character issues is."

1 week 7 hours ago Stadiums

I think I am a bit against the grain, here.

First, I really like going to games at MSU.  Their stadium is just okay, and yes, their fans can be real jerks (in 1993, I went to see UM-MSU there and as we were leaving the student section at the end of the game several full-on punches were thrown at us, to which I was like, "dude, you won?  Why you mad?").  But most are okay, and overall I think they have the best tailgating scene of anwyere I've been.

Second, Northwestern is probably my favorite place to see Michigan play (not counting A2).  It's a virtual home game, you can take the El to-and-from, and after the game you can party in Chicago.  Yeah, the stadium is rinky-dink, but I don't mind that so long as I have a good view of the game--which I always have.

I also like Bloomington.  The last time I went to a game there, we paid $5 for tickets in the parking lot and wound up sitting basically around row 20 on the 35 yard-line.  And Bloomington is an attractive college town with lots of fun stuff to do.

1 week 8 hours ago Husky Stadium

I've been to three Husky games since 2010, and I have to say, I have not been all that impressed.  I think the subpar quality of the team has had a lot to do with it, as the general mood of the fans has been more "testy" than "excited."  The stadium itself was kind of a dump, even if it is perched right on Lake Washington with a terrific view of Rainier--but they are currently renovating it, so I expect that problem will be taken care of.

I do wish I had been to a game here back in the day, when UW was really good.  I think it would have been a completely different experience.

1 week 17 hours ago IMG

What is this "IMG Academy?"  Some kind of charter school just for athletes?  How is that fair to the public school across the street that's just trying to field a team from the neighborhood population?  They don't even have Detroit in Florida.

1 week 1 day ago Purdue

You make a fair point. But when you hire Danny Hope, you deserve what you get--and that includes flukey bad things from before he was the coach.

1 week 1 day ago IU

Indiana is not snakebitten. Rather, by some karmic glitch, their football program is made to suffer for the injustices perpetrated in IU's favor by basketball officials at Assembly Hall.
