NCAA Violations I think this is really stupid. If this is all the NCAA can come up with as violations they need to set back and contemplate their belly button a while. We nor the NCAA knows for sure what went on except for the checking up on kids in class and not counting stretching as part of the practice. Were the QC staff's involvement some sort of organized thing? If so that ought to be readily determined. If they were just there and saw some of the guys needing help and gave it, what's the big deal! As convoluted as the rules are, it's not unreasonable for someone to violate them and not know about it. Personally I think this is just the NCAA covering it's behind over a newspaper article that had the possibility of some major stuff and they are justifying their existence.
Recruits One comment I keep seeing is the players from warm states not wanting to come to Michigan to play in cold weather. I hope the Michigan recruiters are pointing out to the good ones that if they have NFL aspirations that playing in Green Bay in December is not a warm weather sport. Really want to prepare yourself for the next step, come and play where conditions will replicate what you will find there.
Not so fast "I overheard Brandon's sister-in-law's golf pro tell a caddy that Rodriguez was toast." Yeah, my barber's brother-in-law's sister was saying the same thing.
Getting Rid of RR I think you have to give the guy at least 5 years. By that time he will have all of "his guys" on board. If there isn't a breakout season after 5, you probably have an argument. And I'm a guy 70 years old that doesn't have a lot of time left to see this turn around! I also wonder, as much as I respect Lloyd Carr, if he didn't really let down the last 2 years at Michigan. It seems that in his next to last year there was some sort of issue that wasn't really spelled out. Reading between the lines I took it as being burned out. If so this would affect recruiting hence the lack of talent now. The one thing I really wonder about is RR not having the team elect some permanent captains at the first of the year. Seems this would give the team some leadership that the young players need. Only my opinion of course.
Keeping the Faith While this year has been really up and down I think we all need to keep our socks on. While our defense looks really bad there have been so many worst to first cases in recent years that I don't give up hope. Too many comments have been about how we don't have good personnel on the defensive side of the ball however I see guys making it into the opposing team backfield before the ball carrier has made more than a couple of steps. The problem is that they a falling for the fakes and overrunning the play. Some experience and maturity will overcome this. We just need to be patient which our society doesn't have much of these days. Some are also concerned that the Barwis conditioning program may not be working. Personally I think this will show up next year in a team that will be able to outlast anyone. Just my opinion of course.
Lack of Recent Success I just wonder if Forcier's injury to his shoulder/arm wasn't more serious than we have been told. Since he got hurt he doesn't seem to play like he did previous to the injury. I don't mean just the passing but the decisions and running. Just don't seem the same. As for the defense I think a lot of the problems are on the coaching staff. You coach to take advantage of the players capability. So you don't have barnburners all over the place; you should put in defensive schemes that allow for that. I just don't understand playing 10 yards off a wide receiver at the LOS.
Recruiting Fast Players I hope RR does get a lot of smaller speed burners on board. I get so tired of seeing some of the other teams with guys that are fast come into Michigan stadium and run all over us. Its time we put some pain on others in the same way. I got to believe RR knows what he is doing. By the way, how big was Barry Sanders?
Robinson's Hire We have no idea how this will turn out. This guy apparently did a good job at DC in other places. The Texas coach is really high on him so he must have something going for him. Don't think Mack Brown would back someone that can't hack it. The fact that he didn't do a good job as head coach at Syracuse has absolutely no bearing on if he will be a good DC. History is filled with situations where a guy was a superb #2 or #3 guy but didn't hack it as the head man.
