Why don't you come on up…

Why don't you come on up here to Washington or Northern California and stand next to us in the hospitals if you don't think this is real?  Maybe we can loan you one of the used masks that we've be reusing all day long?  Maybe you can help to decide who gets to have a ventilator nor not?

Didn't you pick him?

Didn't you pick him?

That's brilliant!  Never…

That's brilliant!  Never thought I'd get that kind of advice on this board, let alone from someone that used to live in that Quad (me too)!

This is the real deal.  The…

This is the real deal.  The issue are the asymptomatic vectors.  The problem is because of the testing here, we don't know what the is true incidence, only the really sick that are going to the hospitals.  The problem is the younger people think they'll be fine which they will.  However, they will continue to spread the virus so that the older population will get sick until their movement and activity are mitigated.

If you look at the chart above, in S. Korea where there is widespread testing (and anyone can get tested), the highest percentage of people infected by decade are under the age of 30.  Compared to Italy which is testing people similarly to the US, you're only seeing the ones sick enough to get tested.  The hospital systems where I work are planning for a disaster setting in the next 1-2 wks as the growth rate of infections become exponential.   We anticipate there will be more patients that need ventilators in our metro area than are available in the entire state.

The reasons why the government is doing what they are is explained in possibly the most widely read article in the world regarding the spread of the pandemic.

Not quite right on the Sports Junkies I was friends with 2 of them in high school and played soccer together at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt. Met one of the guys from DeMatha that’s their friend and also on the Sports Junkies. Can’t imagine they’re football experts but if they’re excited about Doyle, that’s probably better than the alternative. Obviously, trust in Harbaugh.
Gentry? Any thought about bringing him back into the QB fold? I have to think this has crossed one of the coaches minds?
OT: mgoblog.com won't load on iPhone

I've been unable to load the website on my iPhone (iOS Safari) over the past several days.  It'll load halfway then stop.  This'll only happen with this website. The app works fine. Every other page/website I navigate to loads correctly. Interestingly it'll load when the page is private in Safari.  I'm on 9.2.1 and tried resetting the iPhone connected to my Mac.  I'm at a loss as to what to do.  I don't know if the administrators changed the hosting service but I can't go my favorite website.  I don't have enough points to start a new thread and I can't contact anyone on the website. Any thoughts?

Sorry to hear that

It can be awful, especially in the head and neck when it recurs.  Thoughts are with you and others whose family members have to go through this.

Oral cancer

Tongue, floor of mouth, buccal, alveolar cancer.  Big issue in baseball.  Tony Gwynn, Curt Schilling among others are ones that have been affected.  Tobacco is the biggest risk factor and is synergistic with alcohol.

More commonly now as there is less tobacco use (depending on the socioeconomic class), HPV is the big cause.  (As someone had mentioned above, from licking and stuff...).  Always a little uncomfortable when discussing this part of why they got the cancer.  Hopefully this'll get better as people are vaccinated for HPV.

Depends on the subsite I'm in the field (head and neck surgeon). It depends on where it is. Base of tongue/tonsil is different and much better than larynx/ piriform sinus for quality of life and prognosis. Quality of life is definitely affected. I tell my pts that the treatment is generally awful. However many develop a different outlook on life and are happy to be alive. Salivation is dependent on the rad onc planning to save the salivary glands but this can be difficult. Stage IV is dependent on many factors. Not necessarily a death sentence anymore.
How long will Durkin stay? I was wondering this after the last game and while this was Maryland, the whole unit looks like it'll be pretty good this year. You've got to imagine he'll get some inquiries to take a HC position.
Green? Anything happened to him? Couldn't watch the game and didn't see his name on the ESPN box score.
Too funny

This is exactly the vibe I got when I spent a weekend there in high school trying to decide between UM and Chicago.  I arguably had a better party time at Chicago but boy, everyone was a Debbie Downer there.  Compared to Chicago, UM was the better party school...

Past performance = Indicator of future results

Looking at this again, I now remember that Patterson was President of the Trailblazers in the mid 2000's.  "Broken economic model" with the Rose Garden arena, poor team performance, temporary "For Sale" sign for the team during his tenure.  A lot of fan disenchantment in Oregon during his reign.  Same results, different town...  (Obviously, UT is not for sale, but you get my point..)

Not that bad The first time one of my friends that moved out the the west coast told me about it, it sounded awful. However having a beer with breakfast isn't all that bad.
Team 9am For us on the West Coast. Have the rest of the day to do stuff.
So true!

I wholly agree with Brian's take on Hoke.  That all being said, I think that Harbaugh in 2015 is a very different Harbaugh from 2011.  We might all be twiddling our thumbs here looking for a new coach if JH came in 2011 and is now in SF or Oakland.  He's done his time (we hope) in the NFL and has come home.

Our emotional investment in our team and institution is probably that much deeper because of the adversity seen on (and off) the field.  For all of us that have stuck with this, I'd argue that I have never been as excited for UM football as I have in almost 30 yrs.  Unfortunately, it's sometimes good to realize had bad we can be before things get better again.

Welcome! From another guy who grew up in Upper Marlboro as well! Congrats and Go Blue!
Bought Love it. My wife was surprised I didn't download something like this in the past.
Borges vs. GERG? They mention UT as a possible opponent. Borges vs. GERG? 2 of our most esteemed coordinators pitted against each other assuming that Al makes it that long.
Still a problem with iOS

I'm glad someone posted this as I thought that the whole site had gone down.  That being said, I'm still seeing the "nginx" screen despite resetting my iPhone 5.  Desktop browsing is fine with Safari.  Guess I'll have to use the mobile app instead for a while...
