I'm cool with the wolverines…

I'm cool with the wolverines. The wolf restoration project...not so much.

Michigan better be on the MF…

Michigan better be on the MF'in cover!

It's almost as if one could…

It's almost as if one could assume the team they came from was superior to all others...

I'm going to take a…

I'm going to take a different stance here. Strack is a blowhard, and I don't believe he has much of an insider connection to the program.

On the positive side, he's a UM fan. However, I'm guessing this an opinion piece that doesn't provide any information (I won't read his stuff) to suggest that administration is seriously considering a move, even though I agree that his time should be up.

I didn't realize it at the…

I didn't realize it at the time, but even though my son (3.5) couldn't comprehend why I was so happy when Michigan won the Rose Bowl, it stood out to him and he brought it up the other day.

"Dad, remember when you the Go Blue game was on, and you went outside into the garage and yelled really loud so you didn't wake sissy up?" Yeah buddy, I sure do. And I can't wait to share that story with you when you're a little older.

Agreed. I was thinking more…

Agreed. I was thinking more from a name recognition and connections standpoint. He had a much larger pool to choose his personnel from due to being around the game in various capacities for so long. Maybe he didn't always hire the right guy, but he certainly had choices.

Sure, but Jim is…

Sure, but Jim is simultaneously filling his own staff. Down the road he might be helpful, but I think his priorities are 100% with the Chargers for the moment.

The one tricky thing for…

The one tricky thing for Moore is that he doesn't have the same connections/relationships around the coaching circles that Harbaugh did. If Jim needed to fill a spot, he could probably call about 2 dozen coaches to find names of potential fits. Sherrone won't, so he's going to need to find guys that he can grow and mold.

This is why hiring Coach…

This is why hiring Coach Moore won't be as simple as "keep the same culture and continue to roll," as some have suggested (even though I believe he is the right guy for the job). Many of the people that helped create this culture are now gone, and you can't just expect the holdovers to be able to replicate what Teams 142-144 established.

Here's hoping that Sherrone is confident and steadfast in his approach to leadership, and is able to assemble a staff that believes in him and are hungry to get after it. I'm looking forward to seeing what the next few years of Michigan Football have in store for us. Go BLUE!

What you've just said is one…

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Ekeler was great, but I'm…

Ekeler was great, but I'm not sure you can count on that going forward. He's 28, and ran for just over 600 yards and 5 TDs this year. Allen will be 32 next year, and will be be in the final year of a deal that includes a $34M+ cap hit ($5M roster bonus). He's also been injury prone throughout his career.

He'll have major holes to fill.

And how could you possibly…

And how could you possibly know this?

Thank you, JJ. You chose…

Thank you, JJ. You chose Michigan and arrived when we needed you most. Your leadership, resolve, and work ethic are the standard for UM quarterbacks going forward.

Best of luck at the next level, and trust that you'll have millions of Michigan fans supporting you along your journey.

One of the best to ever put…

One of the best to ever put on the winged helmet. Thank you for everything you did for this program.  You'll never pay for a beer in Ann Arbor again.

Maybe I'm in the minority…

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I don't care for the posts that include the red/white "O" emoji in these posts. It brings rage.

Ummm....How can he be the …

Ummm....How can he be the "one that got away" if UM never pursued him?

Yeah, definitely seems like…

Yeah, definitely seems like only 1/3 of the team is in attendance which seems odd.

Pretty sure they're playing…

Pretty sure they're playing him at guard...

I'm right there with you…

I'm right there with you MBA2. We were eventually going to beat osu at some point, so I felt like 2021 could have been a "we were due," situation. I was gleefully happy, but I didn't know we had turned the corner.

Doing it again, in Columbus? Now that's some serious shit. And they did it. I wasn't on the verge of tears like in '21, but I felt much better about the future after that win in 2022.

This might sound crazy, and…

This might sound crazy, and maybe it is, but I believe that what happened this season feels that much more special knowing we had to endure all of the shit. 2016 included.

Hail to the fucking VICTORS!

He appears interested. They…

He appears interested. They were in on his initial recruitment and I guess he's followed some of their players and coaches on social media already.

While I hope you're right,…

While I hope you're right, and new players step up every year, I just don't understand this take.

According to Connelly and ESPN analytics, the '23 Michigan defense was the second best in all of college football in the 2000s! The only one better was 2011 Alabama.

Sure, we return many key players, but losing Jenkins, Mikey, Barrett is going to be noticeable, along with other departures that might be forthcoming. I think you're underselling just how good this year's defense was.

They already added this one…

They already added this one. Bought it about an hour ago!

I actually wrote a pretty…

I actually wrote a pretty lengthy piece about this topic, and had considered posting it as a Diary, but no one really wants to read it. I just wrote it for myself. To help me understand what Michigan Football has meant to me in my lifetime.

The short version: this program is such a big part of my life, and I so thankful for what this football team was able to accomplish.

The longer version:

  • Raised to root for Michigan by my dad, who was a casual fan.
  • Moved from Michigan to NW Ohio when I was 7...not ideal.
  • First memories were hearing names like Ricky Power, Desmond Howard, Elvis Grbac, and Cornflakes Brown on the radio while riding around in my dad's truck.
  • 1994 Colorado game made me realize that I was in...and deep. I immediately went outside, screamed with rage, and chucked my football at a tree as hard as I could.
  • I was 15 when Michigan won the '98 Rose Bowl to solidify a National Championship, regardless of what Nebraska claims. At least in my 15 year old brain. I was confident Michigan would continue to be elite for the rest of my life...I was wrong.
  • By the time I was in college (Toledo), I never missed a game (on TV), got to attend a game at the Big House for the first time, and Braylon Fest.
  • Then...a decade of what felt like darkness. I discovered The Blog during this era, and it undoubtedly helped me cope, knowing others felt like me. Optimistic and hopeful at times, but often angry and sad.
  • My fist child was born during the day of the COVID shutdown. While watching the 2020 season, I started to wonder if it was right to possibly burden my son with this fandom. I worried.

Now, 3 years later, I'm feeling so much joy and peace. I had convinced myself this would never happen in this era of college football. But this team was special. They were special because of their dedication and love of the University of Michigan, and one another. Coach Harbaugh, and Aidan Hutchinson, Brad Hawkins, Ronnie Bell, Hassan Haskins, and Josh Ross. Those guys set the tone and expectation, and this year's TEAM 144 finished business because they believed in the goal and their teammates.

So thank you. Thank you to Team 142, Team 143, and most certainly, TEAM 144. Thank you Brian, Seth, and the rest of the gang. Thank you brother and sister MGoBloggers. As I watched and celebrated with my brother like we were 12 and 8 years old again on Monday night, I hope and trust that all of you enjoyed this as much as I did. As others have said, this has erased all of the anger and frustration of years past, and I'll never fret over those times again. Because THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN FOOTBALL TEAM ARE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS AGAIN AND FOREVER!

Tell me more about this…

Tell me more about this process...

No chance he leaves the…

No chance he leaves the cupboards bare if he decides to leave. He wouldn't do that to the program.

Much appreciated, MGoBrother…

Much appreciated, MGoBrother. Sounds like I'll be watching from home, but hopefully another follower is able to accept your generosity. Enjoy your trip, and GO BLUE!

I can't tell if this is…

I can't tell if this is supposed to be funny or not, but it made me laugh. I don't suppose that someone who spends in excess of $3000 to make this trip is worried about whether or not OG will give free breadsticks while getting drunk at their establishment prior to the game.

Cheers to all of you blessed MF'ers that are able to go, and GO BLUE!

Are you commuting from…

Are you commuting from Austin, and back the night of the game, or staying in Houston that night?

Like Dante?

Like Dante?

I'm glad you brought this up…

I'm glad you brought this up, because I mentioned it to a few people during the game, but no one else seemed to notice. The number of times he was in poor position, only to dive into open grass after the ball had passed him was frustrating.

Hopefully Makari is good to go on Monday.

Beef tenderloin with a…

Beef tenderloin with a mushroom cream sauce, corn casserole, mashed potatoes, roasted veggies, and pecan pie for dessert. And many various stouts that have been sitting in my beer fridge for awhile.

Merry Christmas, fellow MGoBloggers.

Well damn. Probably a smart…

Well damn. Probably a smart move by them. I was really hoping to see the freak out happen if Miami lured him away.

No chance osu picked up the…

No chance osu picked up the phone on Finn. A mediocre Big 12 or ACC school was as good as he was going to do.

Whatever helps you sleep at…

Whatever helps you sleep at night, man.

Cam Ward

Cam Ward

Eh. I'd have rather they…

Eh. I'd have rather they hired Knowles. Diaz at PSU isn't enough to overcome his idiotic head coach. Michigan will continue to beat PSU, with or without Diaz, more often than not. Taking Knowles away from osu would have been much more fun, in my opinion.

That's not exactly and…

That's not exactly and apples to apples comparison. The fact that Wilson does have 11 TDs on the year is way more passing than a QB would see in a triple option offense. There are way more opportunities for pass catchers in this offense.

Ronnie Bell got a chance in the NFL, and so will Roman and probably CJ.

This is interesting to me…

This is interesting to me. Not sure what his current grades would be, but I'd guess he's probably a 5th rounder this year based on his film and how he'd test. If he comes back and has a good year he can probably jump to the 2nd-3rd range. Is that worth a year of wear and tear? I don't know the answer, but it's probably not an easy decision to make. I'd love to see another year of #7 back there, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Maybe it's time to cute…

Maybe it's time to cute those ties to the program...

Sure, but most of the guys…

Sure, but most of the guys that could stay or could go are not going to be drafted in the first 4 rounds. Last year, sure (Zinter, Keegan, Corum), but not in this group.

Hence my "arrogance and…

Hence my "arrogance and disillusion" comment. They're idiots.

This seems like a poor take…

This seems like a poor take.

  • Our DL returns a bunch, and who knows what last year's development looks like at the position.
  • OL...again, I'm not real sure until we know who may be returning. We were pretty deep this year and have a bunch of guys that have seen PT (Persi, El Hadi, Crippen, Gentry, etc.).
  • Maybe they take a LB or CB, but Hausman and Rolder are back with Colson as guys that played this year and have experience, and McBurrows, Waller, Walker, Hill should all be expected to take a leap forward.

I'm not suggesting that the defense won't take a small step back, but the cupboards are far from empty and I don't see a need to "run to the portal asap."

As much as people might want…

As much as people might want to spin this into a "the walls are crashing in," situation, most of it has to do with the fact that osu recruits at a very high level. Their roster is riddled with 4* players that are buried on the depth chart, and them entering the portal makes plenty of sense in today's college football landscape.

McCord is the concerning one, if you're a buckeye fan. It screams arrogance and disillusion.

Not surprising to see very low numbers for the playoff teams, but that will change some after the season is over. Seeing Mizzou with a larger number was kind of surprising to me, although I know nothing about the caliber of player they are losing.

I would be shocked if osu…

I would be shocked if osu entered next season without adding a portal QB. I'd say it's a less 3% chance that Brown, Keinholz, or Air are taking the first team snaps next year.

Preach! Which is also why…

Preach! Which is also why the stargazers should take a deep breath and realize that our coaches are looking for a different kind of kid than the recruiting experts might favor. This is a very calculated approach, and it is paying off in a big way.

Orrrr, just maaaaybe, the…

Orrrr, just maaaaybe, the Stalions drama and not having Coach Harbaugh on the sidelines was enough to disrupt things over the past few weeks. And I wouldn't read too much into the Iowa game because 1. They're pretty good defensively, and 2. Michigan knew they just needed to get out with a win and hopefully healthy.

You might be right to be concerned, but I'm sure not going to spend the next 4 weeks in a worry about a team that is undefeated and has the best chance this University has seen to win a National Championship in 25 years.

You can call it whatever you…

You can call it whatever you want, but I'm guessing the message was something like, "Kyle, we're going to bring in a more proven QB from the portal next year. You're welcome to hang around and hold a clipboard, but you're probably better off exploring other options for next year."

It won't make the selecting…

It won't make the selecting worse. Don't lose more than a game. Otherwise you don't have much to cry about if you're not given a seat at the table.

Maybe this is a joke that…

Maybe this is a joke that went over my head, but I'm guessing the coaches haven't spent time in the last 5 days preparing for a team that Michigan might play in the playoffs.
