That was the year after…

That was the year after clockgate (2002). We spotted them a 3-0 lead then whipped their ass.  After the Desmond was tripped game, we went up to the dump and beat their ass 45-28.  May the tradition of post controversy ass whippings continue. Up next, revenge for the tunnel!!

I drive a 2021 BMW X3 30e PHEV. It’s a very efficient car, especially for the size. I’m averaging over 45 mpg in the first 2 years of ownership. It gets anywhere between 15-24 miles on a full charge before going hybrid mode. 15 is when it’s really really cold out. Which is more than enough to get me to work, where I recharge as a perk, to the gym and home without using gasoline.  It is great to have the gas option though for longer trips. I get 33 mpg on the highway.

My previous two cars were…

My previous two cars were manuals

2004 Audi S4 Avant - 6M in Imola Yellow.

2013 Subaru STi Hatch - 6M in Subaru Blue

my current car is not a manual, but it gets more than double the mileage of the previous two 2021 BMW X3 30e

manuals are way more fun to drive and the wagon/hatch were very roomy.  The x3 is better for road trips and commuting.

The S4 was featured in Jalopnik “Nice Price or Crack Pipe”. https://jalopnik.com/for-16-500-become-avant-garde-1341087235

I'm doing the 10K around my neighborhood in North Wales, PA.  I dragged my wife into this, so we're running together.  Depending on the weather, hoping to get it done in around an hour.

That's really fast!  Sub 20 5K is a pipe dream for me.  My PR is 22:30.  Now that I train for more endurance type races, my sprinting speed has taken a hit.  Maybe someday, I'll revisit the 5K and give it a go!

I've done 5 this year - Spartan (not those spartans) Race Trifecta and Ultra as well as May the 4th virtual 10K - all you do is self report your time and collect the swag delivered to your front porch.  Its not quite the same as an actual race, but its certainly better than nothing and a half decent reason to keep training.

turning on the adblocker…

turning on the adblocker seems to have solved this problem for me (adblock pro, safari).

I tried to use this site…

I tried to use this site without my ad blocker on to help with their revenue stream as I really like the content here.  However, just now, I turned on my ad blocker for this site just because two things happened today - 1) an ad started autoplay with sound on while I was at work.  Anyone taking a break to read their favorite MGoContent on early signing day knows that this is 100% pure bullshit.  No ad should do this, ever.  2) Second offense was the auto-redirect to some bullshit phishing page saying "congratulations (browser user), you've won $1000 gift card to Buttfu*kers and a lifetime supply of Brawndo, now all we need is your SSN and banking information". Sorry MGoBlog, no more ad revenue for you from me.    Happy Festivus!

2002 - Year after Clockgate, we spot sparty a 3-0 lead and then proceed to curb stomp them 49-3.  Sweet sweet revenge.

runner up:  I was in EL for the Woodson catch in 1997.  I was not at the game, rather in my girlfriend's cousin's apartment with about 15 sparties.  good times were had... by me.  haha!

  • All grain almost all the time.  Belgians get sugar and sometimes really high gravity beers get a little DME to hit targets.  I also make hard cider, which is not brewing at all.
  • I've been brewing for 11 years (July 2008 is when it all started).  I'd say I average 15-20 batches a year, so somewhere in the vicinity of 250 batches sounds about correct.
  • I brew on an Electric HERMS System (modified from a kit I bought here: https://shop.theelectricbrewery.com).  My set-up is for brewing 13.5 gallon batches, which wind up to be perfect for two 5-gallon kegs of finished product.  The system is in my basement where I have a rather high powered exhaust system.  Fermentation is done in stainless steel conical fermenters from Blichmann (3) and two temperature controlled (heating only) home made stainless steel conical fermenters.  For lagering, I built two walk-in/roll-in refrigerators with Cool-bots and window unit ACs.  In the room next door, I built a bar with 5 taps, two are nitrogen driven and 3 are CO2 driven.  Brewing is an amazing hobby and so is building stuff.

I would pay for an Ad free experience here at MGoBlog.  I pay for it elsewhere (NYTimes, Atlantic, ESPN+, Weather.com) for the type of quality and in-depth reporting we get here.  10,000% agree that Brian deserves to get paid for this so I will endure until an ad free option is offered, then I will pay the man himself.

My dad drove my identical twin (Hemlock Philosopher, where you at?) and I from Chico CA to Alaska (fairbanks, Anchorage and a lot of points in between) in a mid 80's VW Vanagon. 19 days total road tripping, lots of mechanical issues with the vehicle that boiled down to a loose wire and a lifetime of memories.

I drive a 2013 Subaru WRX…

I drive a 2013 Subaru WRX Sti Hatch.  At 0-60 in 4.8 seconds, its quicker than a lot of cars, old and new.   Its always surprising to find something from the days of yore that its not faster than -- the 1991 GMC Syclone Pickup Truck is 0-60 in 4.3, for example... ridiculous.   Best thing about the STi is that its paid off in August and thats when the mods are added :)

I have a special hate for Illinois

1. OSU - Obvious things are obvious

t2. MSU/ND - Both have inflated sense of self worth, one might have been earned, but that was eons ago.  Fans are annoying as hell.  These are actual rivals.

4. Illinois - I went there for my PhD.  Good school for that, but holy hell their fans are a special kind of ignorant, especially about football, and they really, really think they have a rivalry against us.  Our record vs Ill when I was there: 5-0.  I even thanked M football in my thesis for not losing to Illinois while I was there.  Despite my special hatred for them, they're no rival, so they get 4th.

5. Minnesota - something about them irritates the hell out of me.  Maybe its the goofy ass gopher mascot.  We should never, ever lose to this team.

6. Penn Sate - rapey things and now that I live in PA, they're pretty annoying.  They actually think they would have beaten us last year if our game was later.  idiots.

7. Rutgers - they're just terrible and I want them to go 0 for the rest of eternity

8. Nebraska - Remember the Alamo Bowl! (any team that benefits from reffing against us)

9. Baylor - covering up sex crimes and that special type of baptist holier than thou attitude

10. Mississippi - cheaters and holier than thou attitude that comes with the territory

1997 OSU Game

Had front row seats on the goal line in the student section.  does not get any better than that.

also no strict security meant the "vernors" was flowing like Dewars...

Indeed it was... that biturbo

Indeed it was... that biturbo V8 was a thing of beauty.

STi, S4 and RS6

I currently own and love to drive a Blue 2013 Subaru STi - Last of the hatchbacks - light and powerful enough with 305HP.  Its pretty ridiculous to drive in S# mode.  The STi Replaced my former 2004 Immola Yellow Audi S4 Avant - a station wagon with 340 HP V8 and a 6-Speed Manual in bright yellow... so much fun... The most powerful I've driven was my brother's (Hemlock Philosopher) 2002 Audi RS6 - 450 HP Biturbo V8.  Thing was insane, but lacked a proper transmission.  I also had the joy of passangering in a Nissan GT-R - 580 HP, the fastest car I've been in.

We've got two cats, named We've got two cats, named them Sir Lix-a-Lot and Dr Kitten Caboodle. We call them Lix and Kit for short.
Well Played... both of you.

Well Played... both of you.

Brewer: Yes

#of batches: Somewhere near 250 sounds right

batch size: 12 gallons

Method: All grain (as well as cider and mead)

Future topic ideas: On top of the awesomeness discussed alredy, Home bar builds

where does all that beer go? -- a perfectly cromulent question.  I run a softball team.

Unfortunately Yes...

I expect three or four of them.  I just hope we dont fumble at the end of any of them.  The first one will be IU.

more uggos

I absolutely love this blog, Stubob!  Here are a couple more games of (dis)interest

 - The glutton for punishment award ACC edition – Presbyterian, after getting curb stomped by Wake Forest, they're heading to Clemson for another beatdown.  Hope the $$ is good.

 - The pink sock award for really bad things are going to happen to you – Tennessee Tech is heading to TCU and James Madison is heading to face an angry group of Hokies.

 - What could be an ugly game for the AQ team – Indiana State goes to Cincinnati.

 - WTF were they thinking?  Arkansas travels to UL Monroe.  Why?

 - Pillow fight – Duke @ Wake Forest.  Historically this game decides the bottom of the ACC coastal.  We'll know that fact really early this year

 - Liza Manelli Award for aesthetic oddity – Ole Miss at Tulane.  Its hard to pick any game not including the Hokies, BYU or Oregon, but, this game promises not only to have an SEC team eviscerated by a C-USA opponent, its going to do it with little reverence for the pain cause by putting red white and blue and aqua marine together, in a dome.

MM Band and Bob Ufer

are now on continuous loop on my iPhone.

and yet we're picking on Arkon/Syracuse in the Weekly13

F'n Zips!

I do wonder though if Sam McGuffie might help Rice keep things interesting against Texas (Interesting against the line that is).

And a Mr Fusion.

I need it for my DeLorian.  Thanks.

ILLINOIS, tOSU, NW

I was too at the Illinois game in 2000.  I was actually there until 2005 getting my PhD.  The fans were, as another poster stated, terrible.  Imagine having to live there for 5 more years.  It was like a prison sentence.  Had I known that this game actually matters (it doesn't), I probably would have chosen a different grad school.  Thankfully, M won all 5 times we played Illinois and I got to state this in the acknowledgement of my thesis: "I would like to thank the Maize and Blue for beating Illinois all 5 times while I was here", right after thanking my mom and brothers for their support.

Nobody has mentioned the "offensive PI" against Braylon towards the end of the first half of the 2002 tOSU game.  That call was dubious at best and since we lost 14-9, it may have cost us the game and even worse was the second to last stop on tOSU's MNC in '02.

The 54-51 A-Train fumble game was at one point an M blow-out but several terrible calls, many of the 15 yd phantom PI variety got NW in position to help us snatch our defeat from the jaws of victory.

There! I was there, good times of lost memories
Co-eds Is that logo for their co-eds or their football team?
the previous 38 years must be totally irrelevant then.
Illinois/Mizzou Missouri has a pretty heated rivalry with the Illini in both basketball and football (although that has been rather one-sided recently)... not saying that this is any sort of reason for them to jump ship to the B10 though.
Urbanjo I currently live outside Philadelphia with a bunch of Nittany Lions. They're not so bad and have a healthy dislike for the poisonous nuts which make them the enemy of my enemy and thus are approximately my friends. They're particularly pleasant compared to the inhabitants of my former digs - Urbanjo, Illinois. Upon arrival for my 60 month sentence (graduate school), I had the locals inquiring re: my feelings on the "rivalry". What rivalry? Yes, they have the same myopic, one game season with Michigan that sparty enjoys. Fortunately, for the duration of my penance, we did not lose to them.
I was at that Bowl game not that I have any affiliation with Arkon... I was in Detroit and it was something to do. Too bad Memphis had too much for for the Zips.
Get your lean on Promethazine/codeine-ilicious
Right There in '07 I was right there with you buddy! My buddies and I thought it wise to wake up and start tailgating at 2:30 AM. We spent Firday night at ABC... So after about 30 min of sleep, we were off to the tail gate! We called it the Stone Brewing tailgate because we each embarked on drinking a 22oz of each brew Stone makes -- that was 9 22ozers of 6-10% ABV beer. I passed out in a chair at 9 and woke up to go to the game. I had my trusty flask and was in no condition conceal it. Busted and repeat Wolverine318's experience. Lesson learned -- stick with light beer for tailgates and don't try to start at 2:30! Best is a tie between 1997 and 2003. I had my flask at both games and we won.
Sadly, I agree I think that we'll look good on the first drive and be competitve until something bad happens then enter epic meltdown mode and give up 20 something points in the second half. It happened against Illinois and Purdue and it looks like it will happen again against Wisconsin. 14-10 at the half, M, then FAIL! 38-14 seems about accurate.
Wow, bad week indeed There are a number of games that are going to be real ugly blow outs and many more which are going to look like CRIPPLE FIGHT!!! Blow out of the week BYU (7-2) @ New Mexico (0-9) Major Conference Cripple fight: Since Syracuse/UL has already been spoken for, I'll take Colorado @ Iowa State. Did you know that ISU can become bowl eligible with a win? Great hire in getting Chizik, Auburn!
How the mighty have fallen Texas A&M @ Colorado (lost to aforementioned CSU). Didn't these teams used to be good? Michigan/Purdue would fall into this category, but Purduewas never "mighty" Then there is the MAC... Pick a MAC game, any one not involving CMU - how about Kent State (5-4) at Arkon (1-7). Kent state's 5-4 record looks decent (like ours), but one look under the hood reveals that KSU (not that KSU) took a tour of the bottom feeders of the Big 12 and lost by a combined score of 65-29. That's baylor and ISU, folks. This game is going to be as exciting as watching sanils f*ck.
+1 for Trogdor and 1000 cocktails to you for giving me something to occupy that horrible time between lunch beer and dinner beer on a Friday afternoon! A runner up for Aesthetic Anesthesia Bowl is none other than USC @ Oregon. Its going to look like a golden brown swirlie with extra "golden". Also in consideration for ugly game of the week is Wazzou @ Notre Dame. That could get baby seal ugly in a hurry.
Epic Drinking Day I too had an Epic drinking day. All I recall is being up 14-3, yet waking up the next day knowing that we lost. Also lost was my iPhone - which is in Davey Jones' locker at the bottom of lake Michigan... To this game -- I think 28-17 doesn't account for how bad the defenses of these teams are. I see something more along the lines fo 38-28, with some yakety sax keeping us from scoring in the 40s and getting their scoring up. Illinois is a truly bad team and if we can pull it together for, say a WMU type performance, we'll make UI look more like baby seals than a competent big ten opponent.
Living in PA Since I'm living between NJ and OH, I'd definitely agree that NJ is more armpit like. However, OH is more anus like. They both stink but only one has a bunch of crap coming out of it!
proof that sarcasm... ...doesn't work on the interwebs. its a bummer that Cissoko didn't go as we hoped.
Family Values I wonder if they had any thing to do with it.
"Aesthetic Anesthesia" I'm still hoping for a Syracuse v. Illinois Roady's Humanitarian bowl match up on the smurf turf of Boise. Decidedly NOT "humanitarian" - It would be enough to turn a normal high functioning brain into an epileptic catastrophe. Results would be akin to the "Brown Noise" episode of South Park, except people would be literally sh!tting their brains out.

Speaking of TROLLS I wouldn't want to get that close to Tressel. I don't like the smell of moth balls.
