Burke's game tying 3 against

Burke's game tying 3 against Kansas is not only my favorite moment of the year, it's my favorite Michigan moment of all time (yes, I am 30 years old and my memory doesn't go back further than 12 years ago).

Worst?  Losing to Louisville sucked.  Still bitter about that (and I live in Louisville so it's a double 'fuck me' moment).  However, the PSU football game this year takes the cake, easily.  It is the moment when I gave up on Hoke and his staff.  Ironically similar to the PSU game where we all learned who Matt McGloin was / Rich Rod wasn't.

1) Who the fuck cares?2) No,

1) Who the fuck cares?

2) No,, get fucking real.

He's going to Kentucky.

He's going to Kentucky.

Statistically speaking the

Statistically speaking the offense was worse off from 2011 to 2013 (~55 yards per game lost versus 35 yards per game given up by our defense).

The points allowed, however, would seem to suggest that either:

1) We got really, really lucky in 2011 (and since Brian beat it into everyone's brains that our fumble recovery % was amazing that year - I'm guessing we did)

2) Our 'bend but don't break' defense broke a lot more once teams got into the red zone (e.g., we gave up a lot of 30 yard field goals in 2011 that turned into 10 yard TDs in 2013)

It's as shady as you would

It's as shady as you would expect - most teams keep their coordinators through NSD to mitigate potential recruiting losses.

Take a look at the median /

Take a look at the median / average as well.  The 373.1 is getting propped up by a couple of huge games as the median is significantly lower (unlike the other two years).

Two thoughts that come to mind here:

1)  Why on earth did we ever (a) give Borges an extension and (b) make him one of the top 3 highest paid OCs in college football?

2)  It is amazing that our best offensive year (2011) was basically Borges saying, "Fuck it, I'm going to run what these kids know best - the read option".  When he was able to install "his" offense, we meaningfully fell off.

I have heard that #1 above is why you won't see Brandon force Hoke's hand when it comes to firing Borges this offseason.  Doesn't want to look 'dumb' after just giving him a big extension / pay his buyout.  After 2014 though, I expect this entire staff to be gutted.

Hoke is fired.

Hoke is fired.

While they are all luxury

While they are all luxury cars they are all essentially quite different.  Yes, Audi has made great strides in recent years and BMW has fallen off a bit (my personal opinion as an ex-BMW owner).  Personally I feel you can group the four as such:

- Audi: Best technology, excellent power for the $ (especially in the S series), most reliable but has the most asinine steering of the bunch (very dead feeling).

- BMW: It really is the 'ultimate driving machine' - might not have the straight line speed of a comparable German car, but can handle exceptionally well around the corners at speeds higher than the other.

- Merc: The most 'bonkers' of them all - more ostentatious and crazy (see: any AMG ever) than the German competition.  Probably a bit overpriced and less reliable.

- Porsche: "I drive this but absolutely have at least one other car in my garage".  Fast.  Sexy.  Can be had for cheap but its flagship car (the 911 and its many varieties) is the most expensive of the four German automakers.  Anything less than a 'turbo' has a stigma associated with it.

i dont see the (david) merit in posting something i dont see the (david) merit in posting something like this. recruiting is like computer code. fucking 0 or 1. no 2.
Is that the Cayenne Turbo? Anything less = Is that the Cayenne Turbo? Anything less = fail.

You only trade Monroe if you

You only trade Monroe if you think he's signing elsewhere come this offseason.

FWIW, the Pistons will absolutely have the cash to keep him, given the Charlie / Stuckey Expirings...

Problem with trading Smith is - who really wants him?  Pistons bought him this offseason and were clearly the higher bidder.

In the East, your only chance is if Boston wants to turn itself into a 'contender'.  They could offer them Jeff Green and another player to make the deal work.

In the West, Houston needs a PF but it also needs to trade Asik - I don't see how a deal with them makes sense.  Maybe Dallas would be interested?  I don't know.

Not a Pistons fan, but I do

Not a Pistons fan, but I do follow the NBA regularly.

I think the Pistons have a great foundation for going forward.  Their one major mistake in the offseason was signing Josh Smith.  He's not a 3 and Monroe and Drummond provide a better presence in the front court.  They need a shooter at the 3 spot, in my opinion.

KCP was also picked 'too high' in the draft for me, and they did pass on BOTH Burke and MCW (but at least got Jennings to help out the PG situation).  Given how terrible the East is this year, they should be a 'lock' for a playoff spot and could even win a series if the matchup works in their favor.

Tampa?  I don't get it.

Tampa?  I don't get it.  Spent a summer there back in 2003 and deemed to to be one of the worst large cities in America.  Strip clubs are nice, and Ybor City would be fun for a college kid (assuming they don't get shot / left there overnight).

But otherwise?  Yeeesh.  Also, if you look at the ESPN article, the capacity is only 66k, compared to 72k in Glendale and roughly 100k in Jerry's World.  Having been to both Dallas and the Phoenix area, I can say those are places you would much rather spend a grand or two on vacation as well.

If that really did happen,

If that really did happen, then it speaks to just how intelligent Martin ("I'M ON A BOAT") and Mary Sue ("I LLLLLOVVVVEEEE WHISKEY BEFORE FOOOTBALLLLLLLLL GAMESSSSSSS") are with regard to football programs.

Maybe it was a mutual agreement after a few games into the 2007 season, I don't know.  But it seems rather illogical to offer the coach one more year, instead of just paying him off to quit.  I'm guessing the 11-0 run in 2006 could partially explain it, but it still seems very, very odd.

I don't see that difference,

I don't see that difference, to be honest.  You think it was coincidence that Lloyd was gone after a regular season that included The Horror?

It was time for him to go, to think that he did it 100% on his own is pure ignorance.

A Chairman of the Board is probably the best job in the freaking world.  One, you're already rich as f***.  Two, you get paid six figures (minimum) on top of having ALL your expenses paid for to attend 4-5 meetings per year, and dial in to a conference call every month.  The hourly wage factor is UNMATCHED.

Also, per public records (DPZ is a public company, we should know all about Brandon's comp) - he's cashed in OVER $11.5M of stock in 2013 alone.  DB = one rich f***.

[Edit - Per Forbes he made $2.1M as CEO in 2010 and $0.4M as Chairman in 2011.. and since Chair = 1/100th the work of CEO... methinks he is doing much, much better now.  FWIW he also sits on the Board of Herman Miller.]

As long as players aren't

As long as players aren't paid he's worth every penny of the $7M.

I'm sure if you broke down their FB revenue / profit since he has been the coach, you could pay the man $10M and easily justify it.  Somewhere in the $10-$15M range, I would guess, is when it becomes a question mark.

Only issue I have with them is the Nameplates.  Put the kids' last names on there and be done with it.  No one likes 'words associated with feelings' in the stead of the player's actual last name.  That being said, I like these uniforms.  The helmets will look far shittier on TV, though, than they do in these pics (see: Maryland).

'in a few years'... what is

'in a few years'... what is that? 2? 3?

I am not even sure what we are arguing about anymore.  Is it, 'Is Brady Hoke a good coach' or 'can Brady Hoke be like John Beilein'?

If it's the latter - Beilein inherited a tire fire by Michigan standards (sanctions, Amaker, lack of NCAA tournament appearance for a decade), had a few rough years, fired staff, turned the team into an annual NCAA lock, and even took us to a National Championship game (with all due credit to Trey Burke and Mitch McGary).

Can we expect Hoke to deliver a similar result 'in a few years'?  I don't know man.  I think 2011 was more of a mirage than anything, as Brady won the players over, had a very strong DL that he leaned on, and Borges let Denard do what he does best (and Denard had weapons on offense that he could use).  Will 2015 be any better than now? I sure hope so, but to expect a Championship caliber team is probably silly at this point.  Second Year Shane Morris is still a mighty big question mark (even though there is hope surrounding the remaining offensive positions).

With all seriousness, the

With all seriousness, the OP's post was one of the worst Mgoblog posts of all time (where the OP had intentions of sounding intillgent).

Hoke's Head Coaching resume prior to coming to Michigan:

- 2008 Ball St season where he went 12-1, won the MAC West and promptly left his team before they could get destroyed in their bowl game.

- 2010 SDST season where he finished 9-4 and won the Poinsetta Bowl.

- His only other WINNING season (let alone his 'next best season') was 2007 at Ball State.

Beilein's resume prior to coming to Michigan:

- 1996: Took Canisuis to the NCAA tournament.

- 1998: Took Richmond to the NCAA tournament, won a game.

- 2005: Took West Virginia all the way to the Elite 8

- 2006: Took West Virginia to the Sweet 16

- While at Michigan he has taken us to the tournament 4 times (after a ten year NCAA draught), won our first B1G title since 1986, and coached in one of the best NCAA final games of all time.

Beilein also FIRED half of his assistants, undoubtedly making the coaching staff stronger.

While there might be some similarities (e.g., "they both pissed off seemingly the entire fan base at some point"), it's very, very silly to compare the two.  One is much more seasoned and had a tougher hill to climb (Coach B) while the other had a Sugar Bowl caliber team dumped into his lap (Hoke).  If Hoke wants to set his legacy at Michigan, he's going to have to make some adjustments this offseason.  That much is clear.

[Edit: And if anyone wants to make the 'well look what Beilein did after Year 3 at Michigan, Hoke can do the same thing' argument - go ahead.  Just know that Beilein laid waste to half of his staff after that third year.  Assuming we don't beat Ohio this year due to some amazing playcalling on both sides of the ball - Hoke's going to need to bring down the hammer this offseason, or else we've all lost.]
