This is an interesting topic

This is an interesting topic because this is the type of work I focus on. I am an anthropologist with a focus in slavery studies or as it is more formally known "subaltern". I also do a lot of work in racialized discourses. In anthropology there is a perspective known as the "semiotic perspective". Through intersecting discourses historically between class and ethnic groups, as a culture we have created what anthropologists call "marked" and "unmarked" groups. The marked group is the stigmatized group, while the unmarked group is the group of privilege. A nonracial example of this is sexual preference. When people interact in our culture peoples default position is to assume that other is heterosexual. Heterosexuals in this instance are the unmarked group.

Also, to make my point I need to address some history. Historians agree that during slavery it's fair to distinguish between the mentality of "house slaves" and "field slaves". "House slaves", because of their closeness with the slave master and because they were treated less harshly, tended to identify with the slave master even to the extent of saving his or her life. Field slaves were less likely to identify with the slave master and therefore were less submissive. It should also be noted that house slaves, because of their closeness with the slave master, were usually better off. As a result, house slaves have had greater opportunity to equal access and less likely to be excluded from participating in social relations that were once exclusively white. House slave and "uncle tom" have come to mean essentially the same thing.

I think all this information lends itself to the conclusion that Rose was not out of line. Furthermore, calling someone an "uncle tom" is not out of line. People resisting exploitation have always called out those that lend support to those exploiting them. Malcolm X frequently referred to others as "uncle tom" as a means to call people out so that they will empower themselves, as well as Huey P. Newton, and other important caring revolutionaries. It is a criticism out of love.

By the way, to those who were complaining about poor people not doing anything to not be poor and insinuating that people blame slavery and that they need to get out of the past. Well here’s some news for you. There are millions of slaves (indisputable unwaged slavery) in the world today. It is illegal in every country, yet occurs in almost all, including the US.

The West Virgina BCS teams

The West Virgina BCS teams were more talented. I'll grant the premise that we have a litte more talent on offense. However, on defense, they were were much better than us. If my memory surves me right, in 2007 they had a top ten defense.

In the mean time, lets be

In the mean time, lets be elitiest, ethnocentric, dehumanizing, and cruel.

To all of you who post

To all of you who post comments about how post shouldn't have been made, I have a question. Why are you making those comments? That is, why do you feel dignified enough to attempt controling the content of  a website that is for everyone? People come here to follow and chat about Michigan football, something not that important. So why be intolerable about something that isn't that important? This site isn't discussing something serious such as...abolishing slavey, which is something worth being intolerant about. Am I missing something?

Why is it that assholes

Why is it that assholes always have to control the content of the board? This is a blog site for michigan football. People come here to give and hear other peoples thoughts on Michigan football. There are much more important things to be stopped than someone trying to have a conversation.

I think there's one other

I think there's one other reason not yet mentioned. Even though he's the fastest player on the team, that speed is straight line speed. A Slot recievers main attribute needs to be agility. Roundree doesn't have great straight line speed or size but he has the agilty, therefore keep Roundtree at slot and move odoms.

Horrible atrocities are

Horrible atrocities are taking place in the world right now that demands this lack of intolerance. For example, the destruction of real wolverines habitats. Don't talk about this game being moved as if it deserves this type of intolerance. It's disrespectful to the innocent youth that spend their days as slaves producing lets say....footballs.

Wisconsin is a top ten team.

Wisconsin is a top ten team. I predict them to win the Big Ten.

Why doesn't anyone think that

Why doesn't anyone think that this type of posting is disrespectful?

Anyone who thouhgt my

Anyone who thouhgt my comments were naive go read Noam Chomsky. But i guess his work is is like a freshman student studying the humanities.

Someone needed to say what

Someone needed to say what Jackson said. Lebron has recieved way to much criticism for the way he conducted himself. The NBA is a bussiness and like all bussinesses it is the art of exploiting and anyone who thinks otherwise is ignorant. People should be complaing about the extent players have become commodities. I know they make millions but that doesn't dismiss the exploitation done by big bussinesses. A  player makes his own decision and is ridiculed for disrespecting the team he played for. When did deciding to cut ties from a bussiness become disrespectful? when did it become wrong to not want your secret to become known globaly when you chose it to be? People act like lebron is owned by the media, the people of ohio and the Cavs. Its nuts, and someone needed to point it out. Almost all Bussiness high ups act like slavemasters and if you think otherwise go listen to immortal technique.

stop pretending the content of this site is that important

May people at this site are annoying about trying to control the content of it. It's a blog site that people go to talk about football stuff (it's not that important). If you are mad becuase you have spent 3 hours on this site already today and someone post a thread you dont like and want to tell everyone how much of a waste it is well get off and get a life. Go have a conversation with someone and tell them in person you dont like the content of their conversation. I mean come on dont you realize how rude that is. If you talked to people like that in person you would most definately run into someone willling to fight. But of course thats not what you people do, instead you sit at your computer playing mr. im better than everyone trying to control everyone. The Michigan Football fans on this site are like the video game players that spend their life playing WOW. I promise there is much more important things to care about than someone posting somehting at a Blog site that you would rather not read. Again, than don't read it. I've used this site now a year and I only have like 5 points and it's because I use this sight for the information and I still manage to read through it without posting something that tells others what to post and it's because I'm not here to Blog, but for those who are, stop pretending that you are not here ot waste your time talking about stuff that simply isnt that important.

I would be surprised if Smith

I would be surprised if Smith was the starter to open the season. All the other running backs have had and will continue to have the advantage of improving during spring and summer practice.

mgoblog

is a blog site. I repeat, mgoblog is an internet website where people leave their opinions. This site is specifically a place where people go to speculate about the future of Michigan sports and read others speculations. There are no right or wrong post. Lately people using this site have forgotten this, and as a result, people keep judging other peoples speculations and telling them that they should have not made that speculation. Though I do think the judging is fair, I do not think making a post about how someones post is wrong or pointless. I mean seriously can we treat each other like sentient beings? If you really disagree with someones speculations just share your own and respectfully disagree, instead of posting a comment that cleverly tells someone to shut up.

Mike Martin's natural

Mike Martin's natural position is at end in a defense that uses three down linemen. Many people keep saying that he's to big and to slow to play end. This would be true if the end in the 3 man front has the same priorities as a four, but they do not.

The Detroit Lions

with the second pick should select Brandon Graham. He of course wont be, and based on what I have read, he probably wont even be selected among the top 15 players.

what if

what if Izzo wins another NC this year? Then, by some miracle does he become a better coach, and move ahead of Roy to claim best among active coaches?

Grahams draft status

I've been saying it for awhile now, that Graham could easily be the best player in this draft - including Suh! Someone posted a comment about how he's not going to wow people at the combine, however, that's exactly what he's going to do. He will run the 40 somewhere around 4.5 - 4.6, faster then most linebackers and definitely faster than all the defensive ends (actually that is even faster than most running backs and wide receivers, braylon Edwards ran a 4.56). I just don't understand how everyone isn't raving about his athletic ability if they watched the same games as me. I bet he out runs Edwards 40 combine time. Furthermore, I bet the ratio of speed compared to weight will be the best, meaning that for his weight he will run a faster time than those who post a 40 at 4.3 but only weigh 170.

Please read

Please read this. I have used this website for almost a year now because of the sound reasoning in the conversations that take place here. However, I'm worried about the advise given in this conversation(not to offend)so I decided to finally make an account. It seems to me everyone is providing advise that is being measured by suspect values. Sure, getting into the best college and having the best GPA are important, but is that really how we should measure success? It seems to me that success shouldn't be measured by the letter grade, rather, the experience of taken the class. With this being said, I do agree with the general conclusion, that it shouldn't really matter which of the two your son decides to take. However,my wife and I have both taken IB classes, (she earned the IB diploma) and I must say that they are excellent at preparing students at being able to create quality work, better than most of my college courses. Who would want to be stuck at a school like Michigan, where you have to study your tale off to just pass, without this advantage?
