Thank you for posting this.
I was about to post something like it when I scrolled down to find you'd already done it.
Messi is even more amazing because he never dives. Watching him successfully fight through double and triple teams with the ball is just incredible. Many other players would have been on the turf by then, but Messi plays through it and sometimes even scores or gets an assist afterward.

I wound have gone to law school instead of becoming a journalist. Law has more job opportunities in more interesting areas. The pay's better too.

Michigan forgave Webber for the timeout. I remember when the team returned from the title game and held a rally at Crisler. The crowd cheered for Webber and begged him to return for another year. No serious fan or alum held that timeout against him. Ever. It was a terrible mistake and most of us felt bad for Webber rather than being angry with him.
Years later, he lost a lot of support because of how he handled the Ed Martin scandal. Webber lied about it and even committed perjury. That made the situation more difficult for himself and the university.
I've always cut Webber a lot of slack about the Martin thing, until now. After reading about the Dan Patrick interview (I can't bring myself to listen to it), I'm done with Webber until he apologizes for taking money from Ed Martin and staining Michigan's reputation. And I don't think that will ever happen.
As for the hints about wishing he'd gone to State? After today, I wish he'd gone there too.
Want to know what it really means to be a Michigan man? It's someone who puts their university, their team, their family and their friends above their own interests. A Michigan man is a leader who eats last. A Michigan man is someone who does the right thing, even if it has painful consequences for them.
Chris Webber went to Michigan. He wore the maize and blue. He represented the university on one of the biggest stages in sports. But, over time, Chris Webber has shown he is not a Michigan man.

After reading that, like Webber, I too wish he'd gone to State.
I can't forget watching him lie to a room full of people while we were both students at Michigan. He noted that kids were paying good money to buy replicas of his jersey while he couldn't afford to eat at McDonalds. We later learned that wasn't true. Ed Martin was giving him $500 (or more) handshakes.
Webber embarrassed himself and the University. He's refused to acknowledge it and refused to apologize. Now he hints that he might have prefered to have attended MSU? I don't know what to say other than, "I wish you had, Chris."

If you like it, it's great. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks or says.
Personally, I've always preferred the block M.

"It must've killed Woody Hayes to know he'd be remembered for throwing something, not running."
The line about Urban Meyer and Cleveland is pretty good too.

I think Desmond said later that he should have caught the ball.
I believe the failure to complete this play led to his massive effort against ND the next year. He stretched out to catch that fourth and one fade in the corner of the end zone for a touchdown. That TD gave his Heisman candidacy a massive boost.

"Ultimately, winning will determine whether Harbaugh is a success in the Maize and Blue"

Look at Harbaugh. He always sticks his belly out. Is that disrepsectful? Seems to me that it's just the way the guy stands.

My post is referencing Harbaugh.

Bando's absolutely correct. While a student in 1990 and later, several people told me the basketball players on Frieder's teams were "hooked up" with cars. It wasn't much of a secret on campus.
|15 weeks 5 days ago||Bo was right.||
The shady stuff probably didn't start when Steve Fisher became coach. Nothing was proven, but as a student at the time, I heard quite a few people talking about possible improper benefits for players. This was before the Fab Five came to campus.
To contrast, I never heard anything like that about the football program or any other athletic program at Michigan (aside from the baseball program selling scandal).

Not a huge deal, but a bit disappointing. We could have used the extra games to get more experience for the young guys.

For long-term investing, index funds are the bomb-diggity. That's where I keep 99% of my retirement savings. Look for low fees from places like Fidelity or Vanguard.
For savings, there's nothing wrong with "higher interest" savings accounts via Ally Bank, Barclays or others. Best rates right now are only 1% which suck, but you have easy access to your money. Interest rates at most brick and mortar banks are terrible. I wouldn't bother with them at all.
You can get a slightly higher return on CDs than on traditional savings, but your money's locked in them for six months, a year or longer.
As Bluebyyou says, be skeptical of specific advice because most brokers are using you to make their living. They're more interested in helping themselves make money than in helping you make money. And, of course, a lot of stock advice is just people trying to boost the price what they already own.

It's not dead.
Here's an idea for a pump up song: let the marching band play.
And it won't cost the student government nearly $3,000 in seed money.
The disc-jockey/piped in music at Michigan football games is horrible. It needs to either go away or be significantly minimized. It's generic and does nothing to improve the "event experience". Spending thousands of dollars of student organization money and enlisting celebrities won't make it better.

I'd like to see the NLI revised so it isn't so unfair to recruits. Schools need a way to plan for incoming recruits and the recruits need some guarantees from schools.
Just thinking about it makes me realize how bad the current recruiting/scholarship system is. The NCAA needs to trash it all and start over. Get rid of oversigning, mandate four-year scholarships (with exceptions for criminal behavior, academic failures, etc) and, basically, give student athletes more control over their lives.

It's been done before by NCAA basketball players. The AJC article above lists two: Brendan Knight at Kentucky and Stephon Marbury at GA Tech. Both became official recruits when they enrolled in classes. There may be others.

The right way is to treat the players as college students. To treat them with respect and as people, not property.
They're part of the Michigan family and it's wrong to throw away members of your family because you've found someone who can run faster or block better than they can.
Winning is important, but it's more important that Michigan doesn't sell its soul to win football games.
