It may be just because I really like soccer, but I think the Men's soccer games are some of the best non-revenue games. Especially for matches against State and OSU the student section gets pretty rowdy with a good set of organized cheers. Plus the soccer facility is really nice. I've also been to a tennis match at the indoor facility and that was pretty fun as well. |

I've honestly had no problems in the 6 years I've had it in Ann Arbor. The first place I moved into here, the tech spent 3 hours to run new lines throughout the whole even though I paid no installation fee. Never had service problems and the one time I had a problem with my box it took me all of 15 minutes at the Comcast store to exchange it for a new one. |

U of M costs roughly 50k per year to go to out of state but I, and many others, came here because it's one of the best schools in the country. This is in order of how I and my hockey playing/following friends see the league setup. "Adult" Professional: NHL KHL (Russian pro league, this is where a lot NHLer went during the lockout) AHL (think AAA baseball) High Level Premier European Leagues (Swedish, etc) ECHL (think AA baseball) SPHL (A baseball) Federal League (not from the movie slapshot. I know they pay their players, beyond that I know nothing other than it only has 4 teams) Next we have the junior/college level leagues which also have high school players Canadian Major Junior (OHL=mostly Ontario; QMJHL=Quebec and east; WHL=west Canada, Washington, Oregon.) Major junior leagues pay their players a stipend which in the NCAA's eyes make them professional and destroys college eligibility. Junior requires players to be 16 to 20. College NCAA CIS (Canadian University, typically older than NCAA players and most likely have played major junior as that does not make you ineligible, usually not going anywhere afterwards) Junior A Tier I USHL-Premier US Junior league, the NDTP (National Development Training Program) has it's under 18 team play in this league. Canada has a series of leagues (BCHL, OJHL) that play at the same level as the USHL and do not pay their players so the players retain elibility Junior A Tier II The NAHL is considered a Tier II Junior A league, it is filled with young players (15 or 16) trying to move up to the USHL and then on to high leagues or 18/19/20 year olds still chasing the dream. Most of Eastern Michigan's club roster is guys who played in the NAHL at the end of or after high school. There is Tier III junior A, then Junior B, and Junior C. Next comes the high school or Midget levels. High school in Minnesota or the New England preps schools is equal (in my opinion) to Midget AAA played by teams out of the Detroit area. |

UM Eastern Shore is also a completely seperate college (HBCU) as is the confusingly named (to some people) University of Maryland University College. If anything the Maryland system is set up more like the University of California sytem (UCLA/Berkeley/Davis/etc are seperate schools with UCSF being the main medical campus). As far as I understand the rules, players have to be compensated at or around the normal rate for the job they are doing. So if Denard could make $100,000 from another baseball team, having him play for Ross' team would be okay. It's similair to a player getting an ordinary summer job, it's totally cool if they get a normal hourly wage consistent with what you or me would make and get paid only for the hours they work and receive no extra benefits. Some of the big scandals seem to be guys working at car dealerships and getting paid way too much to be a porter or car cleaner or something and getting paid twice as many hours as they actually work. |

Grew up playing in Maryland and I never felt there was too much stalling (granted as a d-man anytime I didn't need to run extra was fine with me). But I haven't been home to watch a high level high school game in a while. The thing I feel slows down the college game so much is unless a fast break is certain teams run down, step in the box, then wait to do a complete line change, then start the offense. At the high school level, at least the lower levels there is as much of an emphasis on the d-middie and offensive middie lines. Hell, I only have 2 guys as subs on a good day.

Please not in high school, or they need to put some sort of score cap when it's used. As a coach of an admittedly bad lacrosse team stalling the ball on offense is one way we can compete and then the other teams tend to take pity on us and also hold onto the ball and work on passing rather than scoring. I don't see a coach employing that tactic if is leads to a turnover every possesion. Most boys hs basketball leagues in the country don't us a shot clock either. |

I really liked those Maryland uniforms, but it probably has something to do with being from the state (we have an irrationally high love for our flag). I also think it's cool that they are trying use the look in more sports. The Maryland/Hopkins lacrosse game two weekends ago had a cool combo of uniforms. Maryland was wearing the ultra-modern graphics everywhere UA ones with pads having the same idea whereas Hopkins was sporting retro looking brown pads (look more like old leather) throw back jerseys and even had decals on the helmets to make them look like the old bucket helmets they used in the 70s and 80s right down to a decal for where the laces used to be on the back of the helmets. Back on top, the modern/futuristic uniforms work for teams that don't really have a tradition or have a tradition of pushing the envelope, classics work well for schools that have that classic tradition. The thoughts of a 23 year old. |

| 1 year 9 weeks ago | My story |
I grew up and played youth hockey in the DC area and there were no good hockey stores there and really still aren't, so I usually bought most of my stuff from Perani's when I'd come up to Michigan to see my cousins or play tournaments. Anyways, I really used to like using CCM Tack 952 wooden sticks with the Murphy curve. CCM stopped making the pattern and I was in a jam. So my dad called Perani's and tried to find a solution to the problem. Mr. Perani called him back about 2 hours later and said there was still a 12 pack of Tack 720s from a few years ago at the warehouse. He gave us a deal, I had the sticks before my next game, and I think I still have two that I use for roller hockey, etc. I've been to the Flint, Ann Arbor, Livonia, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Dimondale, and Windsor locations and never had an issue with the selection or the staff. |

Just to throw in my 2 cents about the University of Maryland University College thing, the reason it has two Universities in its name is because of the way the University system used to be run/is still run in Europe. Essentially a University was a collection of colleges, each specializing in one area, that collaborated. In the US now days this has gone by the wayside, but even at Michigan there is still the College of Engineering with in the University of Michigan. So the University College has a broader scope and teaches classes that are also taught through the other Colleges within the University of Maryland. The University College name is still used widely in Europe (University College London is a fantastic school), so don't let the name throw you off of a school that is actually quite good and has a lot of experience in distance learning. |

People that are saying this place failed are way off base I think. This place failed because it was over priced, had terrible service, was always dirty, and overall just sucked. When the opened everyone that lived in that area was pumped, but soon realized huge tables where you had to scream at your friends to hold a conversation were not that fun. On top of that, packpub just tried to hard, the waitresses would have "spontaneous" hula hoop contests on tables for example. Many times I'd go in and the floor would be sticky from the night before, they would be out of beer, and every tv would be on a bears game when the lions were playing. The only good thing they had was $1 buds (and then labatts for awhile) but then they started charging cover and I never went back. Maybe the people who run Charlies will buy it and turn it around like they did cantina. |

I would argue that lax is more like basketball than hockey. At least over the past 5+ years the game has slowed down and become long possession oriented including making full scale changes between o-mids and d-mids. I feel a lot of the half field play maps directly to basketball: running set plays, setting picks, pulling the ball back out if you don't have an open look, defenses running man or zone. Hockey is a considerably faster game and unless there is a power play opportunity or right off a face-off set plays really don't happen in the same way. |

Which Engin 100/101 are you taking? 100 can be a huge time commitment depending on what prof you have and if you're not too good at computer programming 101 can also be a bitch. But as for your actual question, two friends of my mine had the same dilemna coming into freshman year. One decided to beef up his calc 1 skills and retake 115 even though he had the AP credit, he ended up slacking in the class because "he knew everything" and got like a b minus or something. The other decided to do 116, stayed on top of everything and got an A. I'm not sure if it's changed but 4 years ago 116 didn't require you to turn in homework every week, but they would still give you practice problems. If you're confident with your math ability and your ability to stay on top of your work, I'd say go for 116. I went straight to 215, and with a similair schedule to yours (also 13 credits, easier chem, but working on the side), got an A+ in 215 including a 100% on the final. |

When I was in high school (class of 2006) you had the choice of taking IB at a different high school or AP classes at your own. From what I could tell IB was mainly for literature and the arts where as AP let me take Calculus, Physics, and other sciences which I could then easily transfer into Michigan and get ahead in my Engineering studies, in addition to english and history. People I knew that took IB classes told me it was pretty much a scam, but it might vary from school to school. I also remember IB was good if you wanted to go abroad for college. |

The men's club lacrosse team should be excellent again this year. That's all I got. |

In the punk circles We Are the Union (from Ann Arbor) is getting bigger. Also, the Cheap Girls (E. Lansing), Koffin Kats (Detroit) and the A-Gang (ex-Suicide Machines) also from Detroit. |
| 3 years 28 weeks ago | It was definitely started |
It was definitely started last year, and I only remember it starting after the BU game, so I assume it just came from that. |
| 3 years 28 weeks ago | Against BU |
I think it started last year against BU when everyone really liked yelling Yip and it got changed over to Woop. Around me, we do it when the opposing team is trying to breakout on a power play until they get to the red line. |
| 3 years 30 weeks ago | No more Alumni Band |
I personally, and many of my friends, hated the alumni band at the game on Friday. They did nothing to get the student section going when we needed something to light a fire in Yost. I would have preferred a high school band that played loud and fast because that's all they can do than a band that may be technically better but can't get anything started. It seems like 1 big hockey game a year we get stuck with this and the atmosphere suffers. -End rant fueled by football and hockey underachievement |

If anyone has some contraption that would allow me to float over Kalamazoo during the riot that will surely precede, coincide, and then follow the MSU/Western Game let me know. |

But also remember in the summer there a lot of empty student houses around Ann Arbor, extremely close to the stadium. If someone is coming for the group play which takes 2 weeks I think, I'm sure they could find some undergrads enterprising enough to offer short term leases. |
| 3 years 43 weeks ago | I don't know how you |
I don't know how you interpreted the "mustn't go right" anecdote as anything other than the "That is the shady side of town, go and perish" way that I took it. But, maybe that's from personal experiences of cabbies and bell boys telling me the exact same thing. That being said, I thought the article was for the most part crap and I do agree that I wouldn't consider fans that behave like these Mexican soccer supports more passionate than respectful fans. |

I envy your week 15 destination sir. Since I've been enrolled at UM I haven't been able to get to the game due to exams and what not. The Army Navy rivalry is the only football rivalry I think is nearly as good as UM/OSU, but for completely opposite reasons and I miss being at that game. |

I would probably eat at that restaurant twice a day if I ever was unfortunate enough to end up in France. |

Considering I'm living in Berkeley for the summer, I'd like the opportunity to begin trash talking as soon as possible. |
