Reading around on him, the knocks against his NFL prospects center on his passing delivery (tends to throw sidearm) and his unproven play against top competition. He'll get looks, but I think he'll be a lower round pick ... 3rd maybe at best?

My wife saw me watching this. She rolled her eyes. "Boys and their football," she sighed. I smiled. Let it begin.

It's hard to glean much from these interviews. The players are savvy enough to say little, but say it in a persuasive way. But to the extent this reflects a seriousness about focusing on the game and winning ... then great!

So this got me thinking about the 10 best years for any coach in college history.
Bo's 1969 to 1978 run was spectacular -- 96-15-1 by my count.
Yost's 1901 - 1910 run was 78-6-6.
Knute Rockne's 1921 - 1930: 84-11-3.
But then I counted up Bud Wilkinson's Oklahoma teams 1949 - 1958: 107-7-1. Whoa.
For a 10 year span, that's remarkable. His worst season was 1951 at 8-2.
I'm trying to think of other coaches whose 10 year spans might approach that.

Yeah, I suspected there was a staff helping to coordinate these things.
Still, it just fascinates me to picture myself a fly on the wall. Recruiting at this level has to be a pretty well oiled machine for top programs. I can picture daily update meetings to get everyone on the same page with respect to status, trends, and who does what next.
We watch football on Saturday, but there's just a crap-ton of things that take place behind the scenes.

"I talk to Michigan almost every day between Coach Durkin, Coach Harbaugh and Coach Partridge."
Could that really be the case -- some contact every day?
Any idea how a program like Michigan coordinates this outreach by coaches? Do they have a schedule of which coach calls which recruit on what day? And would there be a time of day the coaches break from other activities and hit the phone banks for this?
I'm asking just because I'm curious how a program manages the recruiting process across so many players.

Exactly ... this is really odd timing. There's more to this than just bad coaching.

Nah ... I'm just channeling my inner Drevno.
I'm telling ya ... Drevno is Harbaugh's secret X-factor here. I love the guy.

Our offensive line is going to surprise us. It'll control the line of scrimmage. First downs will occur. Drives will be sustained. Touchdowns will ensue.
17 point victory. I'd say 27-10 or 34-17. Game not as close as the score might indicate.

Plus, Arizona escaped a few games by the skin of their teeth. 10 - 2 could easily have been 8 - 4 or 7 - 5. Still, they pulled off a 10 - 2 regular season so good for them. The post season was a bit ugly, though.

Reporting from Tucson ... "adore" is a bit strong. To the extent people here really get into football -- which isn't much -- they are happily content with RR. Agree that expectations are reasonable. Football season is the diversion until basketball season starts.
Plus, football in 90 degrees isn't right. It violates natural law. See my signature line.

You don't bring in a 5th year guy not to start.
Unless Ruddock is the insurance policy to protect against the downside risk.
Also, is it possible Ruddock is designed to keep a fire under Morris? So Ruddock is reliable insurance policy against bad QB play, and serves as pace guy / competition for Morris. If Morris hits his potential then great ... go with Morris. If Morris doesn't click, then there's Ruddock.
I'm just musing ... I honestly don't have a clue.

I would expect quite a response from the Michigan Stadium crowd when O'Neill first comes onto the field. Of all the new names, there's probably the most curiosity around him and his style of punting. If his first punt in Michigan Stadium is 74 yard thing of beauty, expect the crowd to go nuts. If it's a roll/fake for a first down ... it'll be insane.

I'm listening to the podcast ... rather than doing any work. :-)
The interplay between Brian and Ace is really good ... the back and forth in a really balanced way. I'm sure that's not as easy as it seems ... so kudos to both for a fine job making this a well-paced and enjoyable show!

I lived in the Raleigh area from 1984 to 1989. NC State is a bit of an odd case there ... they definitely live in the shadow of their local rivals Duke and UNC. Their campus is nowhere near as attractive as Duke's or UNC's.
They do, however, host "Mitch's Tavern," a local watering hole that was used to film some scenes for "Bull Durham."
As for the patches ... meh, who really cares what some ACC school is doing with legends patches?

|2 weeks 9 hours ago||Limits||
... yet the twitter reaction from the fan base seems to be everyone calling him soft for not being able to handle Harbaugh's practices.
Which not one of the Twitter commenters knows about or could likely handle themselves.
One of Samuelson's stated reasons -- playing time -- helps illustrate a key life lesson that everyone will face eventually: there are limits to a person's talents and abilities. Related: somewhere there's someone better at something than you are. It's just a fact.
Facing this fact is what life is all about. Finding one's place in this world is all about accepting one's limits and maximizing one's strengths. The contemporary notion of "any dream can be realized" is happy horseshit and does more damage than good. Yes, strive for goals; but when reality indicates a change of direction, then take it.
Samuelson seems to realize his limits and is taking a different course. There's no shame in that. I applaud his standing up and facing it square on. Good for him.

You’re only going to be as good on defense as you are up front. It’s a proven fact.
Well, ya can't argue with science. :-)
Still, for all the talk about Peppers and the secondary, the position group I'm most interested in is the defensive line. I keep reading that we're strong and deep there (well, before the purported Mone injury) ... but at the end of the day a lot is going to depend on how well this group of linemen perform. We shall see.

Hold onto your wallet when that "special pricing" expires.
My Comcast bill runs $230/month for internet, phone and TV. It started out about $100/month less, then when my "special bundle pricing" expired the monthly price increases started.
Still, when it works ... it works well. Pricey, but it works.

So that one scene with the green grass? You can't imagine what it takes to keep grass green in the summer here in Tucson. Answer: a whole lot of water.
Go a mile or so outside of town and this is what you see:
But that said, Tucson is one of those cities with a dual water supply -- water for drinking, and reclaimed water for irrigation. So where there is grass (campus, parks) the water is from the reclaimed source.
That has nothing to do with hot gymnasts doing "The Whip" ... but there ya go.

Answer, because it wouldn't make sense to sort eligibility alphabetically
I'm not sure I follow. In past years they did permit sort by that column. It was a handy way to see the players by class. It makes some sense. But for some reason they chose not to do it.
