Or to put another way -- they're not quite Purdue-dead.
But I doubt they'll see 11-wins and a B1G title for the remainder of Dantonio's reign.

So if I were to compare the MSU head job against its comparable in other conferences:
MSU's problem is they're never going to get out from under the shadow of others in their conference, just like those I list above are kinda-sorta national programs ... but not really.

Try Tabasco on the popcorn.
You've got to like Tabasco, but if you do, the combination of that and popcorn is great.
First had that down in Puerto Rico at a hotel bar. I thought, "Where have you been all my life?"

Alright, bear with me ...
Peanut Butter and sliced creme drops:
Essentially a Reese's sandwich ... but with the creme center stuff. Fantastic.

Peanut butter and yellow mustard.
Don't judge me.

Many years ago I read something about the economics of crowd behavior, and there was a quote I thought was amusing: "I've never actually seen a lemming, but when I do I'm certain I'll see more than one."

I smile every time I see that picture, or other references to Holy Grail.
Very few movies make me laugh out loud. The first time I saw Holy Grail I was literally on the floor, clutching my sides, gasping for breath.

If memory serves, there was at one time ... if not an explicit hyphen, there was a star or some other emblem between "Wal" and "Mart."
EDIT: Ah ... Wikipedia to the rescue:
(I must have locked that in my brain from back then because even today I think of it as "Wal-Mart" ... muscle memory, I guess.)
|6 weeks 6 days ago||Oliver Martin||
Every year there's some player I latch onto as the guy I'll keep an eye on. Usually it's some under-the-radar guy ... typically a FB or a TE ... for example Sione Houma a few years back.
This year it's Oliver Martin. There may be no greater satisfaction in the world that getting 1st down on a 3rd-and-15. It crushes will of the opponent. Which is good.
I love the squirrely posession receivers ... the guys that give up 50 pounds to some poor LB trying to cover said squirrel. Squirrel for the win.

I gave zero thought to that. Seriously.
I thought of Abbrederis because I recalled watching several Wisconsin games and hearing his name come up again and again and again. 3rd and long situations, QB running for his life, wild-ass throw ... "Abbrederis for 18 yards and a first down!"
I like that kind of receiver. It's good to have a clutch go-to guy.

Does anybody recall Jared Abbrederis from Wisconsin a few years back? The guy ran routes, got open, and always caught the ball. Hoping Martin is something similar.

Or will eventually.
There's a very real risk in killing the goose that laid the golden egg. If college football devolves into a small handful of teams that dominate year after year, then national interest to start to taper off.
It'll take more than a few years to see this effect. My opinion is we're already seeing the front edge of this.

When I was a kid we had All in the Family, Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart, and Carol Burnett all on the same night.
If memory serves, "The Jefferson's" was also part of that lineup, between All in the Family (8:00pm) and Mary Tyle Moore (9:00pm). What a lineup. Fantastic television.
Then at 11:30 on Channel 50 would be "The Ghoul". Now there was some high-brow television.

I think football is a sport where the sound-deadening headphones could work.
(As opposed to, say, baseball where the sound of the ball meeting mitt is used to determine safe or out on close calls at first base.)
Might have to insitute a timeout official on the sideline to hear for and react to coaches calling TO.

Your reaction is probably a lot like recruits who visit from greener places. It's like visiting the moon ... it's totally different. A kid from Florida, or east Texas, or southern California is going to have a hard time seeing Tucson as his dream spot to play ball.
|9 weeks 4 days ago||Sure ... no problem with||
Sure ... no problem with Rodriguez living there. Lots of people do.
Tucson is an interesting place. It's really spread out. There's not much of a "downtown," and what little there is mostly courthouses and banks. The original growth went east, then it turned north. U of A is located just east of downtown Tucson.
Growth to the north eventually reached its limit with the Catalina mountains. Hence the neighborhood there called "Catalina foothills." From there it went northwest, up the I-10 corridor towards Phoenix.
The place was hit really hard by the real estate crash of 2008. Real estate prices are still recovering from that.
