"getting a chilly reception down here in Florida... death to Michigan"
|2 hours 32 min ago||I would be surprised if it happens again||
Given Urban Meyer's track record as a HC, I would be surprised if it didn't happen again. I don't know why anybody would assume he won't.
|2 hours 45 min ago||The dismal running game is a major issue||
It's especially puzzling to me since Drevno's resume as an OL coach was pretty solid... how on earth can our running game have done worse than it did under Funk?
|3 hours 11 min ago||LB's, QB, and Safety's are a big concern||
Our schedule ain't getting any easier: we've got Iowa, MSU, and OSU on the road, and replacing the Minny Dilly Bars with Wisconsin.
|3 hours 19 min ago||I had us at 8-4, so 9-3 is fine overall||
esp. considering we were 10 seconds away from beating MSU.
However, if you'd told me that one of the losses was going to be our worst home defeat at the hands of OSU since 1961—a home loss to OSU worse than anything uncorked by RR or Hoke—I wouldn't have been doing any cartwheels.

FWIW, Sam specifically said that there is no indication whatsoever right now that Isaac has any intent to transfer, and that he's committed enough to Michigan to have driven down to the Indiana game by himself even though he wasn't on the travel squad. He also said that Isaac had a really strong week of practice in the week leading up to the OSU game, and it seemed like Sam was a bit surprised Isaac didn't get any carries.
I'm surprised Isaac didn't get more carries during the season myself, esp. since nobody else really locked down the RB spot. I suspect that Smith's generally decent blocking may have been a contributing factor.
|4 hours 37 min ago||If I heard correctly this morning||
Sam Webb said that Green did not dress for the OSU game, and he directly implied this meant something going forward. I inferred that Green's time with the program might be coming to a close, but I might be misinterpreting what Sam said. I'd have to listen to the podcast to make sure. Given Green's disappearance from the field, it wouldn't be surprising if he transferred.
|4 hours 41 min ago||You're right, it wasn't the deciding factor||
But in combination with the decision to send gunners on the final punt against MSU even though the Spartans had no intent on trying to return the kick, I'm scratching my head about some of Baxter's decisions.
|5 hours 20 min ago||Was really, really disheartened by the roughing the punter call||
Nobody should be whining for one second about that penalty—if you make contact with the punter you're going to get flagged 95 times out of 100.
Trying for the punt block in that situation was one of the stupidest fucking coaching decisions I've seen in a long time out of Michigan. Stopping one of the most potent offenses in the country inside the five was a big emotional plus at the time, and we were guaranteed to get the ball no worse than mid-field. There was absolutely no necessity to block that kick at that point in the game. As soon as we stopped them on 3rd down I said out loud in the bar to nobody in particular "Now don't do anything stupid like trying to block the goddamn punt—just get the fucking ball on the fifty and go to work." Instead, the predictable happened. That's on the coaching staff.
|17 hours 44 min ago||Something tells me this won't end well||
It's sort of a repudiation of Kill's management of his staff.
|20 hours 20 min ago||Most kids know to commit to a school, not a coach||
That's actually exactly the opposite for a large portion of HS recruits—who their position coaches will be is very important to them.
|1 day 4 hours ago||Mone did not play any snaps yesterday, right?||
It would have been a horrible decision to waste an entire year of eligibility playing in that shitshow yesterday.
|1 day 4 hours ago||carve out a career in the NFL as a special teams dynamo.||
He was never a special teams dynamo at Michigan—why would he then turn into one in the NFL?
He's got the career record for KO return yardage at Michigan because our defenses were so mediocre-to-bad.
That aside, I always thought his real potential was as an offensive player, where the quickness he does have is more of an asset, and his lack of top-end speed is less of a hindrance. Why Hoke & Co didn't work to get him the ball in space more was always a puzzle to me, but then so were a lot of things.

Given our substantial needs elsewhere on the OL, DL, LB and RB.

but watching that video with Beckman's voiceover illustrates how woefully miscast Brandstatter is at doing play-by-play. To put it in coaching terms, Brandy isn't being put in a position to win. Michigan should say thanks very much to Dierdorf for his two seasons in the booth, move Brandstatter back to color, and get a real play-by-play guy to call the action.
|5 days 1 hour ago||but not about that fucker on the bottom of the msu pile.||
You're a disgrace to your avatar's name and character.
|5 days 4 hours ago||Considering how he looked early in the season||
Rudock has been the biggest surprise to me.
|5 days 6 hours ago||Why is Durkin spending even five minutes||
talking to Maryland at this point in the season?
|5 days 6 hours ago||What the hell are you thinking?||
You're talking about revenge for Michigan, and the youtube you're linking was put up by a Buckeye.
|5 days 6 hours ago||isn't it just TIME for another iconic Michigan moment?||
Yeah—seeing Michigan with more points when the clock hits 00:00. Everything else is gravy.
|5 days 20 hours ago||If Herman was gonna move||
He could have gone to LSU after this season, or maybe Georgia or Texas after next year. South Cackalackey seems like reaching a little low to me. Sorta like Mullen to Maryland.
|5 days 21 hours ago||You sit in the DMV||
Sitting in the DMV is pretty much my definition of Hell on Earth. Especially if my ticket number is 96 and the lady calls out "Number 14."
|5 days 21 hours ago||but that's just fucking stupid.||
A lot of wishful thinking going around about Meyer.
|5 days 22 hours ago||I'd much rather Maryland hire Cam Cameron||
He'll be available real soon, and cheaper, too.
|5 days 23 hours ago||counting on Brokenberg/Franklin to pull off a road upset||
Penn State beating MSU in EL would be a far bigger upset than MSU beating OSU in Columbus.
|6 days 29 min ago||The most PSU can do is keep it close||
Even if they do, it seems like this is the season when enough falls MSU's way. PSU will be tied with 20 seconds left and driving for a game clinching FG but then Hackenberg will fumble the shotgun snap, kick it trying to recover it, and Sparty will return it for a game-winning TD as time expires.
I think MSU's ability to "fuck things up" pretty much left with JL Smith.
|6 days 1 hour ago||But we were screwed by a vote of Big 10 Athletic directors.||
The justification was that Franklin had broken his collarbone and wouldn't be close to 100% in the Rose Bowl.
The unfortunate thing with the whole "we were screwed" narrative is that Ohio State went out and absolutely smoked USC 42-21. Considering Bo's miserable record in the Rose Bowl—especially our typically anemic offensive performances—it's difficult for me to envision Michigan coming anywhere close to that performance by the Buckeyes in that Rose Bowl.
Which means that the ADs who cast the votes for OSU could always point to the Rose Bowl results to support their decision.
|6 days 2 hours ago||I hate marketing||
Which might explain your reasonable and well-intentioned but I think unrealistic expectation that baggage shouldn't accompany the mere mention of somebody's name.
Marketing generally depends on the leveraging of unspoken associations in the target audience's mind, even if they're tangential to the specific thing being marketed. That it's frequently scurrilous in intent—like racial dog-whistling in political campaign ads—doesn't mean it's not effective, unfortunately. Compartmentalization in the human mind isn't absolute.
|6 days 4 hours ago||Nice straw man though.||
You were the one who brought Brandon's name into the conversation, and you can't seriously expect to do that without the entirety of Brandon's record coming along with that mention. It's hard to think of another sports figure who brings more negative baggage with him on MGoBlog than Brandon.
