I doubt I’d be here without it because I’m not interested in participating in forums chock full of douchery."

At the end of the 2007 season, RR was one of the hottest young names in college football, coming within a Pat White hand injury against Pitt of ending up in the national championship game. If you'd asked 100 college football experts who the 10 best coaches were at that time, RR would have been on virtually everybody's list. It may seem obvious now that he wasn't going to be successful in Ann Arbor, but hindsight is 20/20.

2 days 19 hours ago	Agree, but there is a large range of plausibility within sci-fi	IMHO the best of science fiction has been written by authors who make an honest attempt to place their stories within a scientifically-plausible universe. Yes, it requires a willing suspension of disbelief, but there's a vast difference between stuff written by Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke, Pohl, Niven/Pournelle, Bear, Robinson, etc. on one hand and comic book superhero stuff on the other end of the spectrum. That doesn't mean the latter can't be fun to read or see in the theater, but real science fiction it ain't, at least by my standards. And then there's the Sy-Fy Channel, which is produced with the mind of an 11-year old as a target, and not a very bright one at that.

5 days 5 hours ago	Unfortunately, you're observing one of the effects of long-term	unemployment. Most of the people in the city who have the life skills that enable them to hold down jobs are already working, and many others have long since left the area for greener economic pastures. A sizeable portion of those who are left are people with the least prospects and are truly unemployable without substantial investments in work training, and that's no panacea. It's an intractable problem, IMHO.
5 days 6 hours ago	A city that built its economy and population on a foundation of	many thousands of relatively good wage/low skill manufacturing jobs is going to struggle mightily unless those kinds of jobs come back, and that ain't happening. Several generations of Detroiters of all colors and ethnic groups were able to become middle-class by virtue of the auto manufacturing industry and all its related industries, and the large majority of these jobs required nothing more than a high-school education, if that. The disappearance of these jobs took far less time to occur than the process of creating them did, and the result was that there was suddenly no way to make middle-class wages for all the Detroiters who had until a short time before been able to make do with a high-school diploma. This has happened to cities all over the industrial midwest, but Detroit was probably more thoroughly dependent on heavy manufacturing than any of them.
