Some updates:

ESPN and Her Hoop Stats have now updated since the Indiana game and both still have Michigan as a 10 seed.  ESPN only moved Michigan up one spot in their last 4 byes (Michigan is now first on that list).

Also of note, CBSsports actually had Michigan as the last team in the field and a 12 seed before the Indiana game, though they haven't updated.

Finally, Michigan's NET went from 49 to 46 with the win.

Also of note, most of the teams behind Michigan in the ESPN bracket have lost in their conference tournament already

You would think I would get…

You would think I would get used to it, but every time he passes away it's devastating.

It's more of a vibes thing.  Loosing in the playoffs to another team would be disappointing, but wouldn't affect our warm feelings and bragging rights about beating Ohio State.  It becomes more stressful if Ohio State makes the playoffs.

I didn't think Sparty was…

I didn't think Sparty was that bad,  Strangely enough, I thought it was Indiana that had the worst homer announcers.  All the others have been very good and professional.

At least it's daylight…

At least it's daylight savings that night, which will help with my old man sleep needs

It's a little weird, because…

It's a little weird, because, by his own system, our expected margin of victory in both games was significantly higher than the actual margin because of the reasons you said.  So we are beating up on these teams (I should note that the same is true of OSU).

My favorite part of the …

My favorite part of the "they left him alone!" play is Michigan ran the exact same play the play before and Denard just overthrew him.  Somehow, Notre Dame still didn't cover him the next play!

It tend to think the post…

It tend to think the post-game win expectancy of SP+ is more a measure of luck than whether a team has been down at some point during the game.  For example, Georgia's final win expectancy against Missouri was 89.5%, so really they were unlucky that the game was as close as it was.  OSU was over 95% against ND.  Michigan's lowest was 83.5% against Iowa (the stats in the Iowa game were closer than the Maryland game).  Michigan hasn't been lucky, but most of these other teams haven't really been lucky either (Clemson was lucky to beat Wake and Ok St. was slightly lucky to beat Baylor).

You mean if Hubert Davis decides to ramp up his pursuit.

He wasn't our DB's coach last year

I wasn't the only one who…

I wasn't the only one who thought it was another full shootout round of five, right?

That Smart close-out on…

That Smart close-out on Brown was one of the stranger things I've seen.  He gets there in time to contest...but then just stands there.  It's not even like he was covering a possible drive because he's flatfooted and leaves the baseline wide-open.

He was committed to a P5…

He was committed to a P5 school and had a couple of more P5 offers, so not a complete lottery ticket.  Michigan by far his best offer, but he's not a complete flyer.

I think I remember another…

I think I remember another Smith meep meep which he started right after he paused to tuck his shirt in.  It looked to me like he was lulling the defense to sleep by doing that, then immediately took off at full speed.

Michigan did get 4 free…

Michigan did get 4 free throws on the technical foul exchange.  Livers hit all four.  The announcers were a bit behind on what was going on.

Yeah, this was a much harder…

Yeah, this was a much harder throw then it seemed.  They showed a replay from behind and Hutchinson was right between Morgan and the receiver.  He would have had to lob it, but not that much of a lob because the Michigan DB wasn't miles away.  It's a throw Morgan should probably make, but it wasn't super easy.

Rookies didn't have any…

Rookies didn't have any preseason games this year.  Probably much harder to learn the offense and be ready

You can't be serious with this post!

While Garza gave Teske the business, I thought Williams was mostly just him making tough shots.  He got to the baseline a couple of times late, but for most of the game, I thought Teske's defense was good.  According to Torvik, he was 8-16 from mid-range (and 1-1 from 3), which is much better than you would expect from a post player.

On the Arc Read RPO, I…

On the Arc Read RPO, I wonder if Collins reads the depth of the DB.  If the DB crashes, Collins runs by him.  If the DB hangs out deep, like he does in the above play, Collins blocks.

I think this makes a lot of…

I think this makes a lot of sense.  Kauffmann is only going to pitch one game, so it might as well be game 3 when he has full rest.  You can't pitch Henry.  The only question then is whether to pitch Criswell to start and then go to the pen (he's not going that deep after pitching yesterday) or start another pitcher and then go to Criswell.  I like the choice of starting with Paige because it gives you the option of saving Criswell if Paige gets blown out.  Pitchers other than the big 3 were always going to have to pitch tonight.  If they get blown up, I'd rather it be early than after we've wasted Criswell.  If they pitch well, Criswell can be used.

As the announcer said,…

As the announcer said, Criswell had already been warming up a couple of times.  If they were going to bring him in, you would want to do it now instead of sitting down and then warming him up again.

The hook on that last play…

The hook on that last play also works because, if he misses, it's a likely Kobe assist because Teske is left alone under the basket (and is in better position/taller than the late Rutgers help).

2016

This reminds me of their resume in 2016, where if you just looked at the RPI buckets, Michigan only had 4 top 100 wins, but when you looked closer they were all top 25 (or close to it).  It all depends on how lazy the committee is.

Illegal man down field

I think on the penalty the ref mixed up Wheatley and Hill.  Wheatley was ineligible, but he stayed in to pass block.  The ref probably saw Wheatley at the snap, then saw a tight end sized person from that side of the line go down field and though it was the same person.  Still really stupid, but makes a little more sense considering they called the penalty on Hill.

edit: others came to the same conclusion while I was typing.

2018

He's reclassifying to 2018, not this season.

Draft Tanking

For draft picks, I like the system from this article.  Basically, the pick order is based on the number of games a team wins after they have been mathmatically eliminated from the playoffs.  It still gives weak teams an advantage, but they will all be trying to win games at the end of the season.  It might still lead to some tanking early on, but that's better than the whole season and you wouldn't want a team to be too bad because then they couldn't win games after they are eliminated.

Soccer points

For #9, almost all soccer leagues have different points for games.  Wins are 3 points and ties are 1, so a game with a winner is worth 3 total and a game with a tie is worth 2.

Fan Hate

I've always wanted a European player that fans of every other school will irrationally hate.  Mortiz fits the bill perfectly.

Timing

The problem is really the timing.  I think most of the recruits know that, at some point, coaches may leave to go to another school or to the NFL.  The problem here is that these deals were already in place and lied about.

247

247 still seems to think it's happening (free article):

Class Balance

He brings some nice balance to the Depth Chart.  Morris didn't  redshirt and Speight did, so he's the only QB set to graduate in 2018.

nonconference schedule

The non-conference schedule hasn't been too bad.  They had a big win at Florida, who are projected to be a tourny team this year (they beat a ranked Florida State team and Michigan is their only loss).
