I understand the no mascot sentiment. However, I just took my almost three year old son to his first official sporting event (the local baseball team) and guess what he said his favorite part was: the bear mascot.

I am not sure you understand the concept of "best case scenario." We might only win 6 games, but that would not be the best possible scenario (even if we are talking within the realm of realistic scenarios). That said...yes, it is more likely that we win 6 games than it is we win 15.

|3 weeks 3 days ago||As others have said, spring||
As others have said, spring for the deep dish and the gar-par crust. Great value as it's still good the next day cold, so you can get a couple meals out of it. As far as "value pizzas" go, it's a good option.

Isn't FSU only doing that because they are renovating the stadium? As long as the Big House is available, there is absolutely no reason to have it anywhere else. Now a little later in the Spring could be nice...

It's good news that we are building momentum. It's not about who leads at halftime. It's all about who leads at the end.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||The employee absolutely||
The employee absolutely screwed up and will be fired if they figure out who it was. However, as others have stated, the $60,000,000 was off the table as soon as the injury occurred, so that shouldn't really impact the fine. It will likely be whatever a typical fine is for a first-time offender. It doesn't sound like ESPN had anything to do with the actual stealing of medical information, but rather reported on it once it was out there. Therefore, I doubt anything happens to them.

OSU, not even close.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||I do think that we will end||
I do think that we will end up seeing 6 power conferences with around 12 teams each, but the conferences will stay roughly the same...no true redistribution of the heavyweights from any one conference. I also think 16 teams is too many for a playoff. 8 teams is just right. The champion of each conference, plus 2 at large bids. The first round of the playoffs before Christmas and the last two like how they did it this past year. All other bowls remain the same (except preferably fewer of them to go around...maybe 20).
|3 weeks 6 days ago||Regarding the JH contract,||
Regarding the JH contract, keep in mind that he asked to be paid LESS than the original contract offer because he wanted more money going to his assistants, and he didn't want to be the highest paid college coach. It is possible that the original offer, with incentives, could have approached that $8mil/yr mark.

What I don't get is, if he actually flubbed the interview on purpose, why agree to do the interview in the first place?
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Yeah, I just listened to the||
Yeah, I just listened to the interview. I am no journalism expert, but Colin definitely seemed more energized for the interview than Jim. JH definitely was not giving Colin anything to work with and should have just cancelled the interview. That said, Colin overreacted and that took it from a boring interview to complete clunker. He could have done a classier sign-off, made a joke about JH sounding a little worn out, and moved onto the next segment. Therefore, I think 50/50 blame is fair.
|5 weeks 3 days ago||I think this is a reasonable||
I think this is a reasonable take. I'm not ready to jump in with Mercury and say "whatever it takes to win!" However, if a kid is not going to be able to contribute due to injuries, and has no future playing the sport, then it is not a bad deal to say, "Hey, time to focus on your studies. Here is a free scholarship anyway for your efforts." I get that a lot of people on this blog have criticized other schools doing this, so now it looks kind of bad for us, but that doesn't make JH a bad person without a soul.
|5 weeks 3 days ago||I'm not sure about that. The||
I'm not sure about that. The next sentence says that when a player signs a medical, it opens up a scholarship... Now I'm not saying whether the decision was right or wrong; I don't know enough details about the injuries, but it is my understanding that (despite what JH said in his quote) this would free up a scholarship.
|5 weeks 4 days ago||B1G East||
I am going to throw this out there. Whoever wins the B1G East for the foreseeable future will be in the Playoff hunt. MSU, UM, OSU, and PSU are all going to be strong as long as they retain the coaches they have and don't get any major NCAA violations. The Doctor has spoken.

Hey now, don't hate on Movement Science. That is a pipeline to MD, DDS and other doctorate programs. The athletes who wanted an easy A in kinesiology would major in PE or Sports Management (I think that is what it was called...).

I never had a problem. I also negotiated a pretty good deal where I was getting about $500 knocked off the rent each month. I'm still not sure if that was a mistake... I should also note that I did my undergrad there too, so I had already done the on-campus thing for four years.

I lived out at Arbor Landings Apartments and was happy out there. It's a little off campus, but it is on the bus line, and I managed to score a blue parking pass off an employee friend.

I guarantee that the kids getting offers at the camps were already on the coach's radar beforehand. The primary recruiter has most likely received transcripts, recruiting videos and spoken with the kid's HS coach.

I wish people like this could direct their passion toward something a little more...productive. Just think if she was investing that type of energy toward, say, world hunger.

One of my all-time favorite games. I had no idea Lloyd had it in him to open things up like that.
|7 weeks 6 days ago||Phew!||
I thought Harbaugh screwed that one up. Seriously though, if Harbaugh sees him in person and takes him over the four stars that have Michigan at or near the top of their list...there is a reason. Harbaugh is the most competitive person I have never met, so he is going to recruit winners.
|8 weeks 20 hours ago||This is great||
Lucas was just named a top performer at Michigan's camp down there, and was also described as "excellent" at Alabama's camp (see alum96's thread a few down about top performers). Let's not forget that Harbaugh is able to put these kids through specific drills and situations to evaluate them and see how they perform. If they pass the Harbaugh test, then they are good enough for me.
|8 weeks 20 hours ago||Yeah||
We will lose a few contributors (new system, new coaches, etc), but I think most of the attrition will be kids who aren't going to get much PT. For them, it just won't be worth it to put up with Harbaugh's intensity (insanity?).
