He keeps it up...

And maybe one of the CBS highlights people will actually bother to learn learn his name.

http://www.cbssports.com/video/player/play/collegebasketball

Love the part about 1 minute into the Michigan-Duke highlights where Darius Moore passes the ball to Morgan Jordan.  I know that CBS sports doesn't care about the Michigan team, but you could at least go to the effort of picking up a roster before you do the highlight reel.

Went to school with Urlacher

He also lined up at fullback and returned kicks.  As the best player on a mediocre (slight overstatement) New Mexico team, he did everything.

well, that's a positive at least

<edit> Removed drunk, cranky post game reply..

I will...

Run out of the pub that I finally found in Paris where they're showing the game, slaughter one of the pigs flying by to barbecue, then swim naked in the Seine.

As for you...

i'll return to the "Go fly a kite*" mantra.

You're wrong. They had some miscues that led to the loss.  They didn't just keep it close or prevent a blowout.

**EDIT- this post was just rude and argumentative and I should have been negged for it last night. Changed to PG levels.**

Okay, understand, but...

How were we awful today?  Our offense played okay versus a pretty damn good defense and we lost because of some miscues versus a good Iowa team.  I don't feel so bad.  I've read some of your past posts, so I won't be too much of a dick, but still, I don't feel too bad.  i know that others have given me heck for that, but I feel good. 5-2, with our 2 losses being to top 15 teams.

I feel okay.

yes

We're kidding you.

Ignore all posts for the next 6 months, then come back. Maybe people will be serious at that point.

Okay..

I'll give your a postive point because I was maybe a dick for bringing a "go  F#ck yourself" as a header, but my point is solid. No, we didn't play fundementally sound ball.  Yes, we stayed close to a top 15 team.  Denard and our offense have made us all overly optimistic.

But for now, maybe you're right, I"ll go stick my head in a hole.

I made this argument earlier

About tate...

We looked good as an offense with our starting QB out and gained over 500 yards of offense against one of the best d's in the nation.  I feel pretty good about our progess.

our d needs some experience, but g-damn our offense is good.

Bottom line is...

Go fu*k yourself.  Go back to the beginning of the season and realistically think about whether you thought our your team would beat Iowa. We almost did.  Dont get negative on us.  We're still having as good a season as most fans expected.

Cheer up.

Yeah, you didn't?

I know it;s a bad way to look at it, but after the wisconsin game, I didn't look at that as a will win.  Did you, really?? We look pretty good compared to last year.

I'm happy,

I feel pretty good

It:s about the team we expected this year, but god did tate look good in the backup spot. I feel good.

About what I expected

I came into this season expecting about 8-4, and that's what we look like as a team.  I think we'll be about 8 and 4.  We lost a bad one today, lost a bad one last week, but I;m happy with our team losing on young mistakes.  We've lost to two teams that we expected to lose to at the beginning of the year, though losing to MSU sucks. i feel happy about the position we're at.

1000 point limit for new posts??

Please.  This is speaking from someone who would not be able to post under those rules.  We're 5-0.  Go drink something.  Please.

What do you mean

Are you saying that Michigan isn't 0-5?  I haven't really seen any of the games, but reading the board posts I would just assume that we are...  Because when our young, inexperienced defense plays like a young inexperienced defense but somehow keeps us in games so we can win them, we couldn't possibly have all of the "fire Greg Robinson" posts that we have.  Unless we have a fickle fan base, which couldn't possibly be the truth either.

Crazy

Tennessee was basically off the field and in the locker room.  Sh#tty ending for them, LSU pulls out another crazy one.

Just because I did get negged on this post...

/s

(sarcasm) (I would think that the mention of athletic, dual threat quarterbacks in 08 would have given it away, but just want to verify, for the MSU grads out there)

Well, to be fair...

We used a medical scholarship on Antonio Bass a few years ago.  It must have been because we had so many athletic, dual threat quarterbacks ahead of him on the depth chart in 08.  Us Michigan fans are such hypocrites with these things, of course....

Okay

I blame it on the fact that it's 3 in the morning here and I'm pretty drunk, but I just made a comment about the feels like a loss in the title of your thread in response to a post you made about people making too much out of you having feels like a loss in the title of your thread.

me=fail for that. Sorry.  Disregard the first part of my post and just skip to the second paragraph where I answer your question.

Understood, but...

I got the point, but if you include "I know today's game feels like a loss" in your title, you're going to get the responses you did. I don't really think it feels like a loss.

To answer the question from your post though, since I didn't do that in my other response, no, I don't think that UMass feels happy about hanging in there in a loss.  I think they'll look at it as a game they made some plays to win and didn't.  Just like for Michigan, a win is a win, for UMass, a loss is a loss.  In fact, though I know he was probably trying to be nice, if I was a UMass player, I would take Coach Rodriguez coming into the locker room, congratulating us for giving Michigan a run for their money as a little condensing and insulting.  The players on that team came here to win.  They didn't, though they felt they probably could have, and I'm sure they're probably upset about that.

Why does this feel like a loss?

As a fan over the last few years, we've lived through the Horror, the Toledo (not sure if this had a catchy nickname, so just added a the), 3-9, and last years conference collapse.  We came into the year feeling the wrath, again, of the AMSHG, expecting, in truth, hoping, for 7-5 or 8-4, with an offense that could score points and a lot of inexperience and holes on defense.  Today, we won a game, bringing us to 3-0 on the season, with an offense that scored a lot of points and a lot mistakes from an inexperienced defense.  People say, a win is a win is a win.  People say it because it's true.  Our expectations as fans have gone skyhigh the last few weeks and that's great, but to be upset about a win, any win, after 8-16 for the last two years, that's just crazy.

Our young team did what it had to to get a W.  Before we get too crazy about FCS opposition, tets not forget that the horror happened with a team containing our all-time leading passer, our all-time leading rusher, and a #1 NFL draft pick at left tackle.  A team that had almost made it to the national championship game the year before and finished the season by beating the team it would have faced if it got there.

Everybody calm down, enjoy three wins in a young season.  The sky isn't falling...

He'd be a better spokeman for blue Koolaid...

A lot of people drinking it these last few weeks.

Completely agree

I mentioned this in a board reply, but I saw a lot of positives there.

Yeah, there were a few glaring errors, but this game actually makes me even more optimistic for the season.  Everyone knew that there were going to be some secondary issues (understated slightly), between youth and AMSHG attrition, but I was really happy with the defense today.

The concern pre-season was about our offense needing to outscore teams for us to win.  Yesterday, when our offense stalled, the defense kept us in that game.  Yeah, they gave up yards and they gave up a couple bombs, but who thought that our offense could hurt themselves with penalties, go 3 for 16 on third down conversions, and special teams would miss two field goals, and our defense would still find a way to keep us in the game?  3 picks, a sack, only 4 for 14 on 3rd down for Notre Dame.  They manned up.

As we move on, we know the offense will roll, but it's extremely exciting to see they won't always have to.

While at the same time...

Purdue seems to be taking out their Notre Dame frustration in a 7-7 tie with Western Illinois, powerhouse that they are.

Just a heads up for the people in Denmark though...

NBC live streaming video is not (usually) available in Europe, so test it before the game and have a back up plan to watch the game.

Love this guy

He had me at "I love to hit people.  I hate everything else.  I love to hit people... really fucking hard.."

Take a deep breath and calm down

First of all, people are getting worked up before anything is verified that he is leaving the university.

Second, even if he is, maybe his mother/grandmother/second cousin has cancerand he's moving home to be with them, so before everyone starts calling a 19 year old a pussy, or depth chart escapist, find out what really happened maybe.

Just saying

oops

Sorry,

8 other people linked at the same time

Doesn't make it true, but here's the link to the article

John Navarre got to top speed pretty quick too...

Unfortunately.

Plus...

The gold around the blue label passes for maize (after a bottle or so).  So it fits.

Also, it's really f**king good, so it's got that going for it.,

wooooooo!

Okay, the 198 yards rushing is (alright, admittedly better than) expected, but 19 for 22 passing is a HUGE positive.  We'll find out a little about the secondary issues in South Bend next week, but for now, who cares.... WOOOOOOO!!!

Chimay blue

Chimay blue

Just kidding...

Good luck with the search.  Hear that things are bad back in the States now.

I hear the military is hiring..

How do you feel about 120 degree heat?

Bring on the negative points...

But our secondary was gonna be bad this year anyway.  i feel bad for him (Woolfolk) and hope he doesn't miss the season, but everyone knew all it was gonna take was one injury and we were hurting.  At least this way, whoever replaces him has time to get some experience, sooner rather than later.  Just trying to be positive.

Crap, who am I kidding.  I'm gonna start drinking heavily...

What?  It's 1 am here, I'm allowed...

Hope for AFN broadcast

Been in Germany about 4 years and have found that AFN does broadcast a lot of the Michigan games, even over the last few down years.  One of the benefits of them playing early quite a bit.  ESPN3 doesn't work in Europe, you'll just get a "not available in your region" message", and the online steaming from other sources can be iffy or hard to find. Not sure about the Big Ten Ticket, though you can watch other video there without the region issue, so that's a maybe. Some of the cable/satellite companies (in Germany, not sure about Italy) also get ESPN America which has been pretty reliable.  Either way, best of luck.

agree...

I would put Penn State in there too.  I was watching the Big Ten media day interview with Joe Paterno and fairly early on, he is asked a question about whether his age was affecting recruiting, since he wasn't out there too often, and he makes mention of how it wasn't age, but more a matter of limitations because they only have 16-18 available slots,  It's another school with success signing only who they can.  Looking back, they signed 27 a few years ago, but only 14 the year before that.  You can have success just filling open spots.

If Nebraska does join us

What's the dollar estimate on how much it would cost the loudspeaker announcer to introduce Michigan as the Real 1997 National Champions for our first home game against the Huskers?  I'm willing to set up a lemonade stand to raise some cash.

(you can neg me if you need... It's two in the morning here and this made me laugh when my friend asked me)

This has nothing to do with spinners...

But I noticed your avatar and wondered, do they play Peter Fox music in the States?

I get the same thing

I was born in New Mexico and live in Germany, but have been a Michigan fan since I can remember. My family is from Michigan, and I remember going to games with my grandfather as a kid. There is a level though, because of the stature of the school, that people assume because you're a fan who lives somewhere else, that you're some sort of pseudo-bandwagonist. (Yes, I know that's not a real word) Especially in good years for the team.

Oddly enough though, I don't get the same comments about my Lions gear.

yes

Should have used both, but I'm at work, so there are limits to my free time.

Same deal...

I think you're right on the Rivals ratings. I just looked at the scout ratings. Gibbons was a 3 star, and the #11 kicker on Scout.

I agree but....

Like I said, I just went with the Scout numbers.
Pat McAfee was rated as a 4 star kicker in the 2005 class and Scott Kozlowski was rated a 4 star punter.

Steve Hutchinson

will probably make it someday.

You mean he's not?

I see his face on the news every day. There's good and bad prestige.
I do understand your point, believe me, but as I said, it's ESPN's scoring system for ESPN's poll.
And nobody wants M to go that route.

I understand your point, but...

I understand what you're saying and I agree that Oklahoma should have been penalized more more their discrepancies, but it's hard to argue that Oklahoma has been a prestigious team since 1936, regardless.
As people have mentioned in other threads, the ESPN system relied heavily on wins, awards, and National Championships. This was just their system for this meaningless poll. Also, truth be told, many of the teams on their top ten have these kinds of things in their history. Alabama and Albert Means, Free Shoe University, Miami and their, well, legal troubles.
This list was not about that.

Also, Oklahoma's wins for the 2005 season were vacated, not changed to losses. They've since been reinstated upon appeal.

Did anyone notice...

They must have remembered a rule.
There were two kicks blocked early in the game, then the last few kicks there has been no rush at all. The announcer even mentioned that there was no rush, per All Star games rules..
