the just released schedules were a flat-out statement that the B10 doesn't believe SOS will matter in playoff selection

Not enough roster spots. Taking both would be too shady. |

Ok, maybe it's just a semantics thing. I meant canned in its definitional sense of "prepared in advance" not in some inauthentic, half-assed kind of way. |
| 1 week 6 days ago | Right, that seems to be the |
Right, that seems to be the conventional wisdom. It's just been my experience that it doesn't really correlate, and my sample size is fairly significant. I admit that I'm in the minority (and in a particular field), so if you're trying to land a job, it's probably best to play the odds and stick to the traditional script. Especially in situations like yours which requires the splitting of split hairs to find the "best" candidate. Also, age may have something to do with my non-traditional stance (I'm early 30s). If I was Herm's age, I probably see phone use as a blatant disrespect to nonagenarians everywhere. |
| 1 week 6 days ago | I believe the last one still |
I believe the last one still matters. It's a formulaic response to a formulaic interview process (i.e behaviorial/STAR), so showing up unprepared for these questions is like showing up in a t-shirt. It's ritualistic, and if you don't do it, you get bounced. |
| 1 week 6 days ago | Agreed, most people can't do |
Agreed, most people can't do it, and we don't really prioritize/value it. But if I'm choosing from a few candidates, I'm taking the most productive one, phone-checker or not. And besides, everyone checks their phone on the job, so faking like you won't during a one hour interview isn't that impressive. |
| 1 week 6 days ago | I don’t doubt that on the |
I don’t doubt that on the whole, hiring managers choose the candidates who dress up, stay off their phones, and have canned answers ready to go. So if you want a job, you do those things. If you work in a field where your craft is gab – and there are several – it probably matters that a candidate can quickly whip up some tale about leading a team through some perilous journey in Uganda or something. (And make sure you throw in somewhere that you delivered the team ahead of schedule, as this is a critical piece of nonsense.) But in my experience in the transportation sector, we have been just as successful hiring quirky types and candidates who are willing to say “I don’t know” in an interview. The correlation between good interview and good worker has been nearly non-existent for us, so lately we’ve just been over-hiring and then booting the people we don’t like over the ensuing weeks and months. Anyway, we wouldn’t much care if candidates/employees were on their phones. If they can do that and still be listening/productive, then good for them. That’s multitasking, I guess. |
| 4 weeks 1 day ago | Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm |
Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm firmly in the "bring it on" camp. It's just that I think many people were willing to take an unbalanced tradeoff (presuming the divisions are actually unbalanced) to get OSU and M, and to a lesser extent MSU, in the same division. Will people be willing to accept further lopsidedness in the future when there's no proportionate benefit to Michigan? |
| 4 weeks 1 day ago | Lopsided Future? |
What happens if, as expected, the B1G expands toward the mid-atlantic? The natural response would be to put Indiana in the West, right? Depending on who is added, the East could become even more top heavy. |

| 8 weeks 3 days ago | Too many teachers get into |
Too many teachers get into the profession for moral reasons, and as such, they are wiling to accept far less to work. This grossly distorts teachers' market value. The good news is, the push to "run schools like a business" should help to get rid of some of the bleeding hearts, as many still strongly believe that cut-throat competition doesn't really belong in K-12 education. The incoming crop of business-like teachers will certainly bring something different to the table, but they will also likely demand higher wages for the job they do. Anyway, it'll be interesting to watch it all play out. |

It would be crazy, if it were true. CMU's AD makes, at most, $220k a year (his base salary is $164k). Not insignificant, but certainly not an outrageous salary for a $24 million dollar/year operation. |

| 9 weeks 11 hours ago | My sense is that McGary will |
My sense is that McGary will probably be a turnover/foul/airball machine if he roams too far from the basket. Also, without Stauskas on the floor, it's going to be brick city from three. But yeah, Robinson just seems lost out there at PF. Beilein needs to try something, I guess. Maybe it's time for "Burke and Hardaway shoot, everyone else just rebound" and hope for the best. |
| 9 weeks 12 hours ago | Michigan doesn't have a |
Michigan doesn't have a skilled big. Sadly, we're relying on players that no one else wanted (Horford, Morgan) or a true freshman. Michigan is generally doomed once the ball goes into Zeller, Payne, Berggren etc; They can either help out and leave Hulls, Harris or Brust open for three, or sit back and watch those big dudes repeatedly make bunnies. Needless to say, when M throws the ball in to Morgan, Horford or McGary, Stauskas won't be left open for the kick out. Obviously, there are other problems, but this one seems like the most glaring.

These things are always political, and it's a good play by the military. 1) They get people to "feel" the budget cuts and hate it, and 2) It's a nice response to the "flyovers are a blatant waste of taxpayer money" crowd. Cutting any other 90 seconds of flight time, or simply doing fewer flyovers, would be seriously underplaying their political hand. /end politics |

Jackie Shipp, OU's former defensive line coach who had been there since Stoops arrived in 1999, was paid 270k last year. Montgomery made 212k. Hopefully Brandon just writes him a check for the difference and sends him back out on the recruiting trail. |

| 13 weeks 3 hours ago | Only MSU can start the 14th, |
Only MSU can start the 14th, 16th, 17th, 45th, and 74th best players in their respective classes and still feel like they've been shortchanged. Their team is stacked. And barring a crazy tournament run, they'll be stacked again next year, too. But having zero commits for '13 and 14, and the thought that Harris, Dawson, Payne and Appling might all be gone after next season, has got to be giving Spartan fans some pause. |
| 13 weeks 3 days ago | I'd like to see them |
I'd like to see them implement a 10 game conference schedule and add an FCS/cupcake exhibition game. Both teams get a nice payday, players get eased into the season, redshirt-bound freshman/depth players get to play, and conference games are maximized. If conferences keep expanding, they'll have to do something, and this is probably more feasible than lengthening the regular season or forgoing revenue. |
