Anybody getting a loading error when trying to load on Watch ESPN on Apple TV? I have the game working fine on my laptop, but not Apple TV

posted from iPhone

A couple years ago, the NHL changed the schedule to include more divisional games to encourage rivalries/ticket sales. The negative in that was, fewer games vs teams from the opposite conference

Brian - I just got around

Brian - I just got around listening to your appearance on the Mitch Albom show (don't ask), and I couldn't help but want to strangle him after he was making underhanded comments about bloggers and belittling you as a guy who "just uses Google" to throw words up onto the screen. Clearly, things like UFR are what separates you from everyone, ESPECIALLY the mainstream media he was basically deifying. I don't think a week should go by without it being said - thanks.

Sad to hear. Along with his

Sad to hear. Along with his finest Michigan moment vs U-Dub, I remember the Illinois game that season where I believe he recovered a fumble and ran it inside the Illini 5. My memory is foggy but I seem to remember he made a couple good special teams tackles. He struggled after the first game, which showed just how clutch that kick was even more, but I always was impressed by the way he always gave it his all and I'm sure he's gonna do it all again.

This has taken my joy to an

This has taken my joy to an even higher level. Kudos, Brian

San Antonio

Brian - this is the third time recently that you've mocked San Antonio. What gives? I went for a Final Four there and the Riverwalk setting made it as good as any college weekend atmosphere that I've ever experienced. Sure better than Orlando or Tampa or Tempe or...Detroit for bowl games. However, playing in the Big XII's backyard is definitely a disadvantage.

Misopogon - Good,

Misopogon - Good, well-thought post. I would point out that newspapers could do things like UFR but that was exactly Brian's point - that the journalists don't ask difficult questions or get in-depth answers enough to get something other than "this was how the game went (very generically)."

Furthermore, something like UFR wouldn't be possible due to space limitations in the dailies, and seeing that they are suffering from their readership viewing online only and not clicking on ads, therefore not creating much revenue, dailies would be hesitant to do such a thing. Had they done this 10 years ago, start charging the readers just like they do for the printed copy, and using the infinite space of the internet to provide a better service, maybe they wouldn't be in this spot.

But you are absolutely correct by wondering aloud if, say, Brian decided one day to up and leave - we'd all be screwed. As far as I can tell, it's a one-man operation and the reason why so many of us come here is because we enjoy reading Brian's work - not Brian's friend or colleagues. The week he was gone, I appreciated the guest content, but it showed me clearly why I only read this blog.

Haha. Seriously..it's

Haha. Seriously..it's ridiculous how often that's confused.

Actually, UA very rarely focuses on Phoenix because it's such Sun Devil territory and Mike Stoops recruits a LOT from Texas. It's never been a historically successful area for UA - Dick Tomey loved Hawaii, go figure. Now that Phoenix is getting bigger and bigger and better at producing players, you'd think that would change.

The biggest gaffe for the Lewan and Roh thing has to fall on Dennis Erickson and ASU. Letting those two leave, when you have historically put out good D-lineman, is a MAJOR sign

Jesus Christ

Hey Fuckfaces...it's UA, not AU.

Seriously, what is with Midwesterners and East Coasters with this? That, and The University of Arizona is NOT the Sun Devils.

Go Michigan Spartans. Dumbasses.

Sorry...resume normal service. This pisses me off.

Mays

Mays' hit was dangerous, but he's something like 6-4 and Norwood is under 6 feet. It reminiscent of the Crable hit on Troy Smith at OSU 06, where helmet to helmet had more to do with the fact that the defender was just taller

Well, since we're being

Well, since we're being myopic - Arizona is in the mountain time zone and played in Vegas (Pacific) - so including them and Oregon State, 2/5ths of the Pac-10 teams played in bowl games outside their own time zone.

Dude, the Muppets are FANTASTIC.

Dude, the Muppets are FANTASTIC. I'm reduced to tears every time I see it, and after a big win (like Sconnie, Minnesota and now UCLA) it makes my day. Continue, Brian.

You know that thing where the

You know that thing where the cameraman follows someone who ends up not having the ball and freaks out when this becomes clear? I did that on like half of Illinois' runs.

Yeah, so did the cameraman. Wait till you see the tape!

I'm not attacking you

I'm not attacking you personally kgh, but this type of thinking is ignorant and common on this board and among Michigan and Big Ten fans in general. USC is, hands down, the best program in the country - they have the best, most fun coach; campus is gorgeous and great; they are the only 'pro' team in town, so they are treated like one; players are stars in Hollywood; the song girls...I could go on and on. And, oh yeah, they've won a shit-ton of Rose Bowls.

Michigan's sell-out streak is very commendable, but like the 'all time winning percentage' or 'all-time wins' records, they aren't as important as U-M fans make them out to be. Sure, kids are lured by traditions in many cases, but they aren't as important as we fans take them. I was bothered b/c Michigan was losing recruits before - and I'm a huge Lloyd Carr guy - because we were banking too much on the past. Rich Rod and his offense, Barwis, etc etc is FUN. More kids are looking at Michigan than ever before, many the type of player we always saw and said 'why can't we have a guy like that?' The future's bright.

Plus, the fan support in LA

Plus, the fan support in LA isn't near what it is in the Midwest. USC has been winning BIG for 5 years now and they still don't sell out the Coliseum.

This is patently false. They sell out the Coliseum and have a terrific fanbase, not to mention the tradition and all that. USC can, and does, get any kid they want. And besides, what do sell-outs mean to recruits? On the list of wants from a kid, sell-outs might be last.

What's funny is this game has

What's funny is this game has sent a lot of false confidence Notre Dame's way, which is fine. They are still a team who nearly blew all those gifts and, IMHO, looked like it was going to lose until Threet's fumble scoop and score. I have never felt that way after a Michigan game - I was almost, dare I say, happy that the offense looked competent and I just chalked it up to horrible luck that won't happen every game. Years gone, I'd barely get out of bed after a loss, any loss. I hope other fans to keep their patience, too.

Maluaga

Maluaga's comments are pretty much dead on and nothing different than what Florida and LSU players said after they smoked tOSU. OSU has dominated the Big Ten the last few years because there have been relatively few good conference teams - PSU 05, U-M 06, Ill 07...so, one difficult game a year, big deal - but as we've already seen these teams haven't had tremendous staying power. OSU is talented and dominating an average conference at the moment, but they have been stagnating the last few years instead of taking it to the next level like USC did. To me, there are three interesting storylines in the Big Ten this year - can Wisconsin or Penn State mount a consistent challenge for the title, can Tressel keep his team together after three devastating, very public routs and can Rich Rod keep his team together through the growing stages. We better hope two, if not all three, of these happen for the conference to regain some legitimacy and take some steps towards everyone being better. I hate the SEC, but the competition that league provides is making everyone there better, while everyone in the Big Ten is getting worse.

</hyperbole>

Grady underwent major knee surgery - those guys haven't - and has bounced back to pretty good health. Many careers have died because of the same knee injury. It's not fair to write the kid off as a failure because he was a 5-star recruit and hasn't lived up to yours or anyone else's inflated expectations thanks to injuries.

Both announcers kept saying

Both announcers kept saying Threet was "on fire," like, multiple times. So, from then on, I just blocked them out.

hahahahah

giggling...uncontrollably

LOL

If anyone has the Muppets singing Rocky and Bullwinkle and doing the dance, I'll pee myself

You, sir, deserve the award

(the Muppets sing Temptation link) You, sir, deserve the award of the day. I am giggling uncontrollably at my desk

Yes, correct

Yes, correct

Ummm...

get the band to stop playing Temptation??? Um, no.

Crazy sh*t happens in South Bend...

You mean like the Aztecs fumbling on the goalline an inch before he hit the turf? Ugh.

No problem getting thanks from me

Thanks Karpodiem and ts! As an avid collector of Michigan games I really appreciate the effort you and everybody else makes with these @ MGoVideo! I uploaded those old Fab Five games last month and I really hope more people will start to do the same. There's a lot of great Michigan moments to have and be had.

Thoughts

Pretty good analysis here that sums up my thoughts. Some more from me:

• I still thought we looked kinda slow, esp on D in the first half. And considering I was expecting we were gonna have an act, not react, D, like the one we had in the 2nd half, I thought we were too slow at times, esp in the middle of the field, where we are no doubt softest.
• Speaking of quickness, the offense wasn't nearly as quick as I thought. The no-huddle is a work in progress, but I was shocked to see us throw so many jump balls. We had more in the 2nd drive than I thought we had all day. I thought the point with Sheridan was to make quick passes. We had WAY too many 7-step dropbacks. I couldn't tell watching on tv, but Utah's defense looked pretty good, shutting us down pretty much in every area of the field.
• Threet....poor kid is just too late with being a Michigan qb. His TD throw was excellent, but every college qb can throw a nice deep ball, big deal. I thought he had a Navarre-esque tendency to hang in the pocket for about 3+ seconds longer than he should have, esp when the O-line was actually giving him more protection late in the game than it had been, and he sailed far too many of his throws. Too many 8 and 15-yard outs without a Chad Henne, not enough screen passes and short ones.

I don't want to seem like I'm jumping the gun, but...

...we still looked kinda slow

Proving how two people can see very different things....

OOOOF! Those whites are dull. Come on, adidas

Right

The Pac-10 pretty much is across the board better than the Big Ten (and most, if not all) conferences in every sport. Traditionally everyone thinks of the Pac-10 as being weak in football, but since it clearly owns the Big Ten (the Black Shoe Diaries post pretty much puts the exclamation point on that fact), there isn't really an argument.

Sorry, I can't let this go

"Rose Bowl records are bad" data to go by? What else should we use then? The Cal-MSU series? You can't throw out the reason why the Pac-10 stomps the Big Ten in important games for reasons you're looking for to prove one conference is better. I know you're looking for overall data, but you can't pick and choose your samples. It's like an OSU fan trying to prove they are better than LSU "if you just took out that one time we played with something on the line and got smoked." Yay, myopia.

As a Pac-10 fan...

but also a die-hard U-M/Big Ten guy, I can't believe we're even having this discussion. The Pac-10 has owned the Big Ten in just about everything recently.

Hahahaha- I have a soccer

Hahahaha- I have a soccer blog that I've been meaning to write more in, but I love college football, would relish a blog poll vote and am an Arizona grad living out here. Ummm....can you bend the rules to that scenario?

@Wahoo I totally agree - I wish he didn't go to Ohio State and I wish he would have transferred with a little more dignity. Boren's an odd case considering his dad played at U-M and his brother was always going to TOSU, but outside of a few minor coincidences, this story isn't as big as bloggers, fans and the media is making it out to be. Boren was an average player on an average line last year, and when the revolution comes, he's first out because of various reasons. This happens all the time with regime changes, whether at major college football or at Blimpie Burger: coaches have their own styles and some people leave because they aren't a part of the plans. It wasn't as if Boren was forced out, and he ends up happy in his new home. No big loss. I think it's important in the internet age to take a deep breathy. Mainstream journalists base their stories off a few opinions on blogs and message boards, and like Brian said, the facts are of little consequence. But fans blow things overboard, too. I don't hate Justin Boren! Also, other than the fact that he wore the Maize and Blue for two years, I have no real reason to love him, either. He's just a guy, who happened to transfer to Michigan's biggest rival. So what? He has a short lifespan in football, and he has to make the most of it. If he feels TOSU is the best route for him to get to the NFL over U-M now - that's reasonable, but a different topic altogether - it's foolish to wish ill will on him. And like someone said in the comments section today, the "idiots" who do say stuff on the contrary are, in fact, idiots. Maize and Blue idiots, but idiots nonetheless.
Remember.... Boren's one kid who became totally irrelevant to Michigan the moment he left. Move on.
This story can officially die This story can officially die now. Face it - players and coaching staffs form strong relationships, and these relationships are more important than traditions, history, facilities, academics or any other grandeurs of a university that you and I like to think of as the be-all, end-all of young adult life. It’s not inconceivable for Boren to have grown close with both coaching staffs, and it’s not inconceivable that Boren felt sadness once Carr and his staff was replaced. For this one kid – and that can’t be stressed enough, it’s just One. Kid. - to feel a little displaced isn’t either the end of the world or a greater indictment on one program vs. another. Everyone should take a deep breath and realize how insignificant this is – Boren, the only one who has to live with this, is happy now, and the world keeps spinning. To take pot shots at the kid for going home to help his father’s snow plow business? Oh what a horrible human being! Let’s just get on with life and realize that the effects aren’t nearly as great as people and journalists want them to be.
You missed lunch? You missed a free lunch? Real sportswriters don't pass on that shit, Brian. Hack!
Good stuff Hey these are great. Now I feel better losing in the first round of the banner contest to you!
Ummm.... ....no. This will not look good.
I don't think Fox... I don't think Fox is catering to the West Coast audience as much as they are catering to their own agenda. I mean, that pregame stuff was ridiculously long. It's the same every year and they milk it for all its worth. And besides, nobody caters to the West Coast, especially not the media, so suck it up and stay up late, or go to bed.
Something else Never been a big fan of "You suck" cheers. They are too trite. Since Temptation has turned into a defense cheer, the main reason I love hearing it is because the D has made a stop. Not because the other team just sucks (although it was apropos during last year’s ND game).
totally

Re: MSU 06

That was one of the odder games I've been to. Sparty fans had mailed the season in and few actually came; those that did all were wearing Tiger hats, and all the talk was from Kenny Rogers the night before anyway, so the "rivalry" that year was quite subdued. But whenever the Tigers scored, people listening on the radio would yell out info and the whole place would spontaneously erupt. Really cool day, but really bizarre too.

No! I don't have an answer, but I hate the "You suck" chanting during Temptation. Is that seriously the best the students could come up with?!
No doubt This conversation begins with 95 & 97 Ohio State games and 04 MSU. During the comeback and OT, 60,000 fans were louder than 110,000!
I'm a little concerned.... ...about the side piping, but other than that these look fantastic. I wonder if they'll be in NCAA 09?
