- Sacks are not just OL; QB has to make good decisions and not hang onto the ball too long.
- Canteen was a pleasant surprise in the spring.
- Wants Jabrill Peppers on offense, but it's Hoke's call.
- Wants to be a head coach some day. (My personal opinion: no way he stays more than 3 years, if that.)
- A lot of reasons for the move from Bama to M. The opportunity to coach at Michigan was hard to pass up ("you only get so many opportunities in this profession"), even at Bama.
- Need to do well early with new CFB playoff system. Big games against App. State and ND.
- No sugarcoat on Derrick Green. He was "definitely out of shape" last year. That's why you can't put too much expectation on a freshman.
- Has taken something different from each coach he has worked under. The biggest thing with Saban is to tell players to focus more on individual responsibilities (Saban's infamous "do your job" mantra) than on W/L results.
- QBs take a while to integrate into a new system. (Don't expect too much from Gardner, esp. after injury?)
- Nuss didn't say much about OL. He seems more focused on QBs, RBs, and WRs.
|1 day 9 hours ago||My opinion on Brandon is mixed.||
First, I don't think he should be replaced. I think the good he has done far outweighs the things we're complaining about.
That being said, there are some things he could do better. Sending the band to neutral site games shouldn't even be a debate, for one. He could also maybe take some time off the "Brandon's Blog" thing and maybe be a little more hands-off the football program.
I don't think the Hoke hire counts against him. He followed it up with shelling out the cash for whoever Hoke wanted on staff. Not every AD does that. (Martin didn't do it for RR.)
I also emailed Brandon back in 2011 about the helmets being changed and uniforms going all yellow and how I was worried about this, and he actually took the time to write me back and assure me that, on game day, the football team will remain consistent with Michigan tradition and history. Okay, so some of it was a little condescending (we know better than you type stuff), but I was impressed that I even got a response. Most ADs don't give emailers (even if they're alumni) the time of day.
Do I think Brandon has some things he could improve on as AD? Yes. Do I think we should maybe back off him a little bit and appreciate the good things? Sure. He's not the monster or incompetent moron that some people make him out to be. While some of the people here might think that they could do a better job on certain things, I personally don't think any of us could do a better job overall.
Just my two cents.

If Michigan went 1-11 with the 1 being against ND, I'm pretty sure heads would be chopped off. And I don't mean the heads above people's shoulders.

Why are you so sure Borges said anything? He never struck me as the type of guy who "bad-mouths" even after he was let go. This wasn't the first time he was fired. He didn't bad-mouth Tuberville or Dinardo after the fact, so why would he do so here?
I know everyone hates Borges because of 2013 (the bad parts, anyway), but for Christ's sake give the man some credit as a human being.

As much as I hate Dantonio (loathe / utterly despise, actually)...
Pretty sure this isn't true. I used to look at it that way too. But I'm 99.9% sure that after three years of recruiting at a high level under Hoke we can't blame it on RR or that MSU picked up recruiting when we were down. Dantonio is just frustratingly good at developing players.
Doesn't make beating him and MSU any less important. The staff has to step up. But, peronsally, I'm done sleeping on MSU. I think the game last year convinced me beyond a shadow of a doubt.
Three years. THREE YEARS! FOR FUCKS SAKE, Hoke's been in charge of this program for THREE YEARS and we're still blaming RR and saying Dantonio caught us with our pants down? No. He's built something real in East Lansing. It pains me to admit it, but we're going to have to fight them tooth and nail as long as he's there. The days when MSU shits the bed (especially against us) are over. At least for a while.
Fuck I hate this post, this whole thread. Thanks for making me write this depressing shitpiece of a comment.

I don't even know why this is a question. If we lose to Notre Dame, I'm slightly bummed. If we lose to MSU, I'm pissed. If we lose to MSU and OSU in the same year, I'm crawling on the ceiling spewing exorcism related things.
So we beat ND. Big fucking deal. It impacts us zero percent in the Big Ten and doesn't matter a lick in the MNC if we lose to MSU and OSU. Those are the two we have to beat. And if we go 2-1 with the loss being to ND, you know what? Fuck it, I'm going to be fucking happy.

|1 week 1 day ago||I'm a little confused.||
Why are Jake Fisher and Denzel Ward on this list? They've never been on the roster and didn't even sign an LOI to Michigan. Does that mean Dee Hart is an "Ex-Wolverine" too?
I feel like calling this thread "Former Wolverine Players and Coaches" and titling the blogpost "Ex-Wolverines" is a little misleading. I get that you like to follow some of these guys even if they don't end up at Michigan, but I think it could be a little clearer. "The Magnus Thunder Fun Watch" or something. "They didn't go here, but I'm following them anyway" type of section or tagline. Might as well add Kate Upton to the list amirite?
Anyway, always a pleasure to read your site, Magnus.

No, he doesn't. Gardner's a legit QB.

SOME GOOD FUCKING NEWS
|1 week 2 days ago||I'm as frustrated about 2013 as anyone.||
But let's move on. This bullshit about Hoke being on the hot seat needs to stop or at least settle the fuck down. At this point it's just restating the obvious.
Yes, Hoke and the team need to show improvement, but we don't know for sure if "the trajectory" is spiraling downward. Changes have been made.
This crap is just the narrative we have to suffer through until we undergo a MSU-like transformation over the course of a season. They were the laughing stock of the conference in September last year, and then suddenly they were legit contenders in November, and now everyone thinks it's going to be them and OSU for the rest of infinity. College football can change on a dime.
|1 week 3 days ago||Re: OL||
I don't think it's necessarily indicative of him "whistling past the graveyard." In addition to being OC, Nussmeier is also the QB coach, so it makes sense that when he looks at sacks he looks at the portion that his position group contributes to it.
With regards to RBs and WRs, those he could be focusing on from a schematic standpoint. "Getting playmakers in a position to succeed" and whatnot. True, like anyone, I was looking for Nussmeier to say something about the OL that can give me hope, but I don't think we're going to get anything of that sort until we witness actual change against App. State.
But yes, I hope it is the latter of your two scenarios as well.

|3 weeks 3 days ago||LSU||
It would both surprise me and not surprise me if he ended up at LSU. I don't think he really fits the systems at either Cincy* or Miami, but LSU could be an option. But how often does LSU seriously go after a quarterback who isn't at least moderately coveted by other SEC powers? Seems like it would be a reach on Miles's part.
I personally think he'll end up in the MAC.
*Cincy offered him anyway (according to 247) and he could be Munchie Legaux 2.0. Kiel's going to need an eventual successor and if Campbell were to develop enough over two years, it's possible he could be that guy.
