2012 – 54th

I just hope that Ohio State recruits a Pokemon to play QB for Wilson, because that was truly entertaining.

I think most people forget that Chris Evans is a true freshman. He averaged 7.1 YPC on 80 carries, so a much smaller sample size than you would like, but still pretty damn good. Give him the rock 200 times next year and I'd be content with a 5 YPC average. I'm very much looking forward to watching him as a sophomore. Sure our offensive line will be greener next year, but it wasn't like they were really good this year either. I think he will be that game changer we need on offense.
McDoom and Crawford also got significant playtime this year. Both of those guys were true freshman. McDoom has gotten pretty good at getting behind the linebackers on slant routes and Crawford played a pretty big role in run game blocking. I expect that with the loss of Darboh and Chesson these guys will get more looks.
TE will be a rotation. Ian Bunting was playing behind one of the best tight ends to wear the Maize and Blue. When called upon in the Orange Bowl, he performed well. Bunting is a different breed of TE than Asiasi or Wheatley. When we went large packages - Asiasi and Wheatley saw the field a ton. Bunting is about 25-30 lbs lighter than Asiasi and Wheatley, but is the exact same frame as Butt. I think TE is a position I'm the least worried about in 2017.
As per the QB - I think Speight will have the job as his to lose. Most thought before the season that O'Korn was the frontrunner, but Speight showed something that earned him the job. He's not mobile on open field runs, but I remember him ducking traffic in the pocket many times. This pocket awareness started in about the fourth game this year and I found myself comfortable when he was back there. O'Korn looked like a deer in the headlights against Indiana. I truly believe that Speight began having injury issues in the Iowa game and it carried forward. I also think most people overlook the pocket awareness of a QB and it is unwise to do so. Our OL is going to be pretty green. We need a guy who can make the right decision in the pocket and I'm just guessing that isn't a RS freshman with no college experience. If it is, then 'In Harbaugh We Trust' and all, but I have my doubts that Peters will overtake Speight for the reasons I listed above.
We can also expect a lot of incoming freshman to get significant playtime. Harbaugh has shown that he isn't scared of burning redshirts. Somebody in the mix of the 2017 class (maybe two or three) is going to perform and will have us collectively high-fiving ourselves in the stands saying 'Harbaugh.'
I'm actually looking forward to next year to see how Michigan will perform under the same offensive coordinator for the third year in a row. It's been a while since we could say that. Pep Hamilton is at least equal to Jedd Fisch if not an upgrade. Don Brown is >>>> DJ Durkin. Go Blue!

|1 week 4 days ago||Actually||
Mark Richt ran a pretty clean program and suspended players for good reason. The example cited is a good one because simultaneously Manziel got literally nothing for the same exact offense.
Historically however, Georgia is one of the dirtiest programs in the NCAA. This is a program with 6 major NCAA infractions. They were kind of dirty in the 80's, pretty dirty in the 90's, and up to the early 00's. Boosters paying players was their largest problem. I would guess that under Smart we will see a return to the norm for Georgia.

While DeVeon Smith won't go down as the greatest RB in Michigan history, he had a pretty damn good career at Michigan. I've enjoyed watching him play and he always put his heart and soul into every game. Don't believe my words? Watch with your own eyes...

Hudson is already 280, so he has the frame for it. Paea is about it for 2017 without anyone gaining some size. 2016 recruiting is basically Gary and Dwumfour. FWIW, Michigan only had 8 players on their roster listed as DT this year. Of those 8, only 4 got playing time of any note - Glasgow, Hurst, Godin, and Mone. It would be nice to pick up another DT this year because it is basically Mone and Hurst (if he returns) for experienced players. Could have Gary slide inside if needed but will need another player to step up to make the rotation work.

I'll agree to disagree about over analyzing. Just put yourself in these shoes and tell me you wouldn't be concerned for our opening game against Florida -
Tim Drevno leaves
Jedd Fisch leaves
Don Brown leaves
Greg Mattison leaves
Sure - Harbaugh would replace them, and still Harbaugh, but if all those dominos were to fall for Michigan then it would cause panic.
This is all assuming a worst case scenario for OSU if what is posted above happens.
|5 weeks 2 days ago||For the sake of continuity,||
For the sake of continuity, this is not good. They open at Indiana next year and then follow that up with a home game versus Oklahoma. This will all happen while they are learning from a new staff. This is all assuming they lose said staff in the first place.
|5 weeks 5 days ago||I agree||
The veteran narrative is a little overplayed when it comes to Michigan this year. Let's look at the 4 playoff teams...
Clemson is starting 3 players on the OL that are underclassmen. Avg 2.6
Alabama is starting 2 players on the OL that are underclassmen. Avg 2.6
Ohio State is starting 2 players on the OL that are underclassmen. Avg 2.6
Washington is starting 2 players on the OL that are underclassmen.Avg 3.0
Only one playoff team has an average starting age at an upperclassman level - Washington. And as many would agree here they are the worst of the playoff teams.
Michigan is starting 1 player on the offensive line that is an undercalssman. Avg 3.2
Michigan will be fine with the recruits they are bringing in. Three of the four teams listed above have something that we are just getting used to - coaching continuity. The veterans we had on this team are working on their third offensive system in their short careers (Borges/Nuss/Drevno) - so that makes them underclassmen by the nature of change. They performed well, but their game experience was erased by the change in coaching and scheme. I'm just not as negative on the future as some are because continuity plays a huge role in developing players.
With that said, I really hope Drevno stays.
