that's unfortunate, but at least the interest is there on both sides

Water is for cowards. Water makes you weak.
But then I realized I was comparing Urban to Denzel Washington in my head, so I threw up a little bit in my mouth and immediately stopped.

That's all. +1.
|3 days 11 hours ago||I would rate it||
I think in general, the staff of the blog has a bit of a liberal bias. Commenters on the blog, however, definitely have a conservative bias...although that is totally unsurprising based off demographics (mostly men, mostly 40s or older I would guess, sports fans).

|3 days 12 hours ago||I don't agree||
First of all, I think the mods let a lot of stuff go on the blog that I personally don't agree with, but that's their call and I respect them for it.
Second, this blog has a no politics rule for a number of reasons, but the main one is that it turns people here into MLive commenters. If everyone could approach hot-button issues with the same thoughtfulness Brian and the rest of the staff do (for the most part), it would be fine to talk about stuff like this. But it devolves REALLY quickly into the worst corners of the internet, even on a blog like this.
If we could keep it civil, it wouldn't get locked. But we can't. And I'm OK with the mods coming in and keeping it together.

My pal was a campus day tour guide (those are the tours where they take you around all day, eat lunch in the dorms, etc.). We smuggled a friend into her tour group...he hung out with them for three hours, asked questions, etc.
When they got to south quad, two other friends and I ran up, punched him in the stomach, stuffed him into a giant duffel bag, and ran off with him.
Best reaction: one dad says to another dad, "was that your son?"

I don't really want to open the Pandora's box of appropriate punishments again here, but I agree with you.

Although it seems like JH's philosophy is that you have to earn the right to get better. So suspending a player from practice is exactly the kind of thing he would do, right?

Sorry, this was supposed to be a response to ijohnb above.

I think you may be imputing a little more long-range planning to espn than they are capable of. A lot of their reporting is the conspiracy theory of the day, regardless of the long-term viability of the sport.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||I thought MGoBlog was better than this||
Mods should have deleted this entire conversation hours ago. The inability to recognize that calling Kate Upton fat is an issue is disgusting.
If I'm wrong about that, send me to Bolivia. I'll do my time willingly.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||Saying||
Saying "I clearly won" after I specifically rebutted what you said is not how you win an argument.
And "not fit" in the context of being a supermodel and "overweight" are completely different things, not that I think either is completely appropriate in this context.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||I said your comment was||
I said your comment was sexist. Please explain how the specifically factual post above was obfuscation.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||You have no idea what you're saying||
It doesn't matter if YOU would call him fat, too. Women and men are objectively treated differently by society. Some studies estimate that up to 75% of women 25 to 45 have or have had psychologically diagnosable eating disorders. The number for men? Less than 7%.
And there's a difference between becoming obese and keeping yourself at the level of fitness at which Kate Upton has kept herself. It's people like you that create unrealistic body expectations that lead to thousands of young women committing suicide.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||Wanting it||
Wanting it in your head? Totally fine, you can think what you want.
Posting it on a public forum? You're being sexist. Calling a woman fat is a value-laden statement regardless of her employment. And calling a model fat (who is clearly much more fit than the majority of the american population) is enforcing a culture of negative body image that destroys young women's lives. MGoBlog is better than this shit.

It's sarcasm, because of how blind you are to your sexism.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||exactly the same||
Because calling engineers bad at math totally creates body image issues in young girls. Plus we all know engineers have historically been discriminated against by valuing them solely on a single dimension of their personalities.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||So you're right: you are||
So you're right: you are allowed to prevent someone from drinking as part of probation, or take away the ability to own firearms, or many other things.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||Yeah, ok, personal attacks||
Yeah, ok, personal attacks are totally helpful in a reasoned discussion. Nice one, bud.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||Your definition of alcoholism||
Your definition of alcoholism is absolutely false, and it's dangerous path towards treating all college students like they are alcoholics (which they are not). He was likely drinking for most of the day on Saturday, which may have been the case for about a third of students on campus this weekend.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||That's legitimate, but that||
That's legitimate, but that doesn't mean you can simply outlaw it. The probation system works functionally the same way.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||For the record, I think the||
For the record, I think the DUI is an incredibly serious offense. I just think drinking on a Saturday night months after it happened (and not driving) doesn't tell you anything.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Why are you so quick to label||
Why are you so quick to label him an alcoholic? Diluting the definition does nothing to help the people who really need it, and demonizes behavior that is almost certainly nothing more than being a dumb college kid.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||100 percent agree. Drinking||
100 percent agree. Drinking and driving is a crazy serious and terrible thing, but you punish someone for the actual offenses they commit. Drinking alone shouldn't be one of them.
