I am so happy you all feel the love and gratitude of everyone who reads this blog. You all are simply the best. I have learned so much about football and even very much the "other" sports we are occasionally good at (:-)). Also, thank you for shipping a hard copy of the preview mag to Utah every August. It graces the coffee table. The block M flag is still hanging on the garage for all Park City to see and my husband has finally stopped pounding the bourbons and started snowblowing the driveway so we can go to work. I appreciate Seth's optimism and Brian's bpone in equal measures and feel most comfortable when they are in balance. The other night (after the Rose Bowl) i was "accosted" by two bama fans - she was actually a cheerleader back in the day a million and two years ago. The husband proceeded to say NCAA was going to vacate our wins, etc, cheating, etc... I could have engaged in the debate, but to debate an issue to to grant it legitimacy. So i simply said "Stop talking, or this evening will end. We can talk about literally any other subject, but this one is done." Amazingly he shut the fuck up. Go Blue.
Jim described the season in advance with what should have been a clue to us all that this team was different. "We're going to win or die trying". With a similar mentality but without the rash bravado of youth, to his guarantee of victory over OSU in 1986, this statement was critical to the success of this season. This Michigan wolverine team - 100% of these guys and coaches will leave it all on the field. That doesn''t always translate to success, but it is worthy of our belief and respect. In individuals this mentality can lead to a transcendent performance, but in a whole team it is both awe-inspiring and rare.
Of all the comments from the announcers, we laughed when they said "Oh wow that's Franz Wagner doin' Wagner things". Which pretty much sums up the way he plays.
Let's not forget that for the first part of the season, Patterson was playing hurt. That likely limited much of what Gattis wanted to employ in the games and also limited what they could actually practice. I think we can see that the turn around offensively began as Patterson got over his injury and returned to form. Just a guess - but looking at his play in those early games, he wasn't throwing right, he was exiting pockets and he wasn't making good reads? All of those things could be attributed to playing hurt as well as having a new offensive system installed.
Couldn't get the above link to work and the Alumni page for Chicago did not have a game watching party listed. Will be in Chicago this weekend for a meeting. Where should we go to watch the Penn St. game?
So I have no idea if this is pertinent or not. A few years ago my family and I were invited to the president's house on campus. We ended up wandering around unattended for a good 10 minutes. Down a few stairs off the main room that had other UM memorabilia, my husband found a wolverine mascot head that he jokingly put on to scare us. It looked a lot like this head.... (as I remember, I think I'd had 1 or 2 mimosas by then). But it had "normal" eyes? Could be the same head that someone stuck blue murder eyes onto. Could be just a very similar head. I have no idea why the head was there, but maybe part of "ancient" UM history? Anyway - found the pic. Similar but not the same

I'm holding on to my BPONE. I am filled with dread for Saturday. Nothing to be done about it. One game does not counter the past 20 years.
