I like watching the coaches post game pressers for some reason and this was one of the few I can remember where the coach didn't go standard boilerplate. As someone who never played organized basketball past 6th grade, I love seeing posts like this and breakdowns by coaches who don't act like they are giving away the missile launch codes if they discuss more intricate concepts that happened in the game, especially so in this day and age when pretty much every major conference game is on TV and those teams have an army of analysts/grad assistants breaking down game film. |

We had the honor of getting trucked by Webber in the 91 finals as well. Crazy thing is that Vall was the third best player on that team but the only one that had his head screwed on straight to take advantage of a D1 scholarship offer. Michigan played back in 2007, lost in 1st round to Butler. It's more of a mid-major tournament now though. This year's participants are Pacific, Alaska-Anchorage, Missouri State, Colorado State, Rice, Mercer, Washington State and UC Santa Barbara. Last year was Harvard, Denver, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Pepperdine, TCU, Alaska, Tulsa and Indiana State, so not exactly a stacked field. |

Lunardi normally goes with either the leader of the conference standings or the highest RPI rating if ties are in place. As you said, WMU is the #1 seed in the MAC tourney, so my guess is this is supposed to be Western instead of Eastern. |
4 years 6 weeks ago | this game |

4 years 6 weeks ago | this thread |
should end well. |
4 years 6 weeks ago | saw on ESPN bottomline |
that cuse's loss dropped them to the 3 line in lunardi's mind, lunardi disclaimers not withstanding. seems to me that as long as michigan makes the B1G final, the only thing keeping them from jumping to the 2 line would be duke and Virginia meeting for the acc title. |
4 years 6 weeks ago | all that needs to be said |
is Illinois shot 54% for the half and is down 22. |
4 years 7 weeks ago | not sure what u consider |
top or bottom end of the bracket but if msu ends up as the 5 seed, they would slot in against the 4 seed in the quarters, assuming of course they win the 5 12 game on Thursday. They'd be paired with the 1 8 matchup, making up the top half of the bracket. |
4 years 7 weeks ago | if msu is the 5 seed |
they would be in the top half, playing whoever ends up as the 4 seed in the qfinals. |

4 years 7 weeks ago | has a bit of an impact |
has impact on M's potential B1G tourney semifinal opponents. Nebraska still in the running for a 4/5 seed, though they likely need to beat wisconsin at home to close the regular season to have a shot at that now. |
4 years 7 weeks ago | if Iowa doesn't beat iu |
on thursday, they could finish 10-8 and maybe fall to 6th place if Nebraska wins 3 of their last 4, giving us a potential semi matchup of OSU/nebraska and putting msu wisky and Iowa all on that side of the bracket |

4 years 14 weeks ago | That's correct |
Those games will be an either/or, dictated by television. This mostly happens when there are potential games that CBS/ESPN want to poach that weekend, which would change where these games would slot in. Michigan had the same thing on last year's schedule for the home finale against Indiana. |
4 years 15 weeks ago | should have watched them at Wisconsin last night |
were up 11 at half, close 2nd half, then McCafferty went apeshit costing his team a 5 point trip on 2 technicals, lost by 4. Iowa is a legit top 25 team. |

4 years 34 weeks ago | Not sure about Houston Baptist |
But I only count 2 in an 11 game non-conf schedule (excluding the 2 exhibitions), not exactly HBCU heavy. With a remaining schedule that includes road games at Iowa State and Duke, home games with Arizona, plus neutrals with Stanford, Florida St/VCU in Puerto Rico, then a likely 3rd game in Puerto Rico of G'Town or K State, I think that's a more than acceptable non-conf. schedule for a team of what Michigan's caliber should be this year. |
4 years 36 weeks ago | Too late for this year but |
Guy I work with ties their draft order into the Kentucky Derby, kinda similar to the NASCAR one above. Each guy in the league gets 2 starting positions assigned at random. They use the highest finish of the 2 horses for each person and rank the draft order as such. Side bonus is that he also hit the trifecta this year using his 2 numbers and a 3rd he picked, won $4,000. |

From his column in the Det News today http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20130315/OPINION03/303150334#ixzz2NcJF6NiM, this sentence leads the third paragraph: "It's the noise Michigan needs to hear, the guttural sound of a large man grabbing a rebound or powering to the basket." I'm sure it's complete coincidence Wojo uses the same not exactly common word, guttural, that Ace used in the opening sentence of his game recap. |

The contracts on their face are both 5/$80 but Verlander's was structured at $8 and $12 the first two years, then bumped to $20/year the last 3 years so Verlander is making $20 million this year. Unless Sanchez' deal is structured to be getting more than that this year, and teams very rarely frontload contracts, he won't be making more than JV. |

"Irvin jumped 37 spots from 68th to 31st in the rankings while Walton rose 13 spots, to 44th up from 57th. Donnal saw his stock drop but only minimally as he fell from 103rd to 104th." Irvin had a huge summer and is now the go to guy on his HS team with his teammate Gary Harris now in East Lansing. A lot of rumblings from Indy BBall people have listed him as the best player in Indiana. With a good HS season, I could see another jump from him to near 5 star status similar to the leap that GR3 made last year.

this was actually done outside of the actual school district. once the voters turned down the bond issue, the school dropped it and it was actually the sports booster club that undertook and did the financing for this. obviously the school had to give its permission but the truly idiotic was done by non-school district people. i would bet you'll see a large donation made by the detroit lions charitable foundation then an 11th hour refinance of the remaining portion of the unpaid amount, too much bad pr all around for the bank to just take peoples houses for something that "benefitted the kids", regardless of how monumentally stupid these peoples initial decision was. |

Been on flights with Mike Tirico (Dallas) and Jason Richardson (Charlotte, NC) on separate occasions. My best one was from just a couple of weeks ago. Went to Pittsburgh for Tigers games and after a night of baseball, drinking and the casino, my buddies and I ended up at the same bar as Verlander and Gerald Laird. My buddy and I beat Verlander and one of his boys at pool. Verlander closed the bar down and left with a very fine young lady. I'm sure she was a close friend from high school and his longtime girlfriend knows all about it. |

There is a big difference in 1st round matchups between the 2 and 3 seed. Assuming higher seed wins in 1st round of BTT, 2 seed gets winner of this weekend's Iowa/NW matchup where winner gets 7 seed. The 3 seed gets loser of IU/Purdue matchup. This of course assumes no upsets in Thursday 1st round BTT games. HUGE difference in playing IU/Purdue vs. playing Iowa/NU Fun Big Ten Tourney facts: In the 14 year history, the following matchups have never occurred: Illinois/Iowa Purdue/Wisconsin Indiana/Michigan MSU/Michigan I'm sure everyone knows about MSU/Michigan never meeting. However, there has only been 1 year (2001, UM 10 seed, MSU 2) where they could have even met before the semifinals. Including this year where they can't meet until the finals, 11 of the 15 years of the BTT, the only way MSU/Michigan could have met was in the finals. That is crazy to me. |
6 years 13 weeks ago | We play 18 conference games |
So we have 11 conf. games plus arkansas left. We are currently 15-4 so if we win 5 conference games plus arkansas, we would finish at 21-10 overall. |

that it took until the bottom of the 1st page of the OP's link for someone to mention "getting no help from the whistle" and the bottom of the 2nd page for someone to call the over and back "complete homer BS" |

6 years 27 weeks ago | Another correction... |
Farmington Hills Harrison does not have a bye this week. Their conference (Oakland Activities Association) has a crossover week this week between 2 of the divisions. Harrison is playing at Lake Orion H.S. this week. I live just south of LOHS and was thinking of going. |

Nashville is in Central Time Zone, the better fit geographically is Nashville moving to the Southeast. I don't think you'll see the Wings moving east, leaving only one original 6 team in the West (Chicago). My guess of the most likely moves are moving Nashville to the Southeast, Winnipeg moving to the Northwest with the other Canadian teams + Colorado and Minnesota moving to the Central. Hopefully, the NHL uses this as the time to examine the schedule as well and change it so that each team plays the other at least once every year. It's ludicrous that it takes 4-6 years to get to see some teams/players from the opposite conference. |

That was EXACTLY what I did. As soon as he went up, I yelled NO, NO...WOOOOOOOOOO. |
7 years 6 weeks ago | The team's response after Wisconsin game... |
and how they played in the Minnesota game, as well as how they jumped on State from the get go after a full week layoff, makes me confident that we will see Michigan's best effort against Illinois on Friday.
They very easily could have come out flat for each of these games for very different reasons and didn't. |

so you can root for someone from Michigan at least. |
7 years 17 weeks ago | Have the contact rules changed that substantially... |
in the 10-ish years since Braylon was being recruited? It seems like the father of a very highly recruited player would have some memory of how the process went down. |
7 years 18 weeks ago | Just imagine to possibility |
Just imagine to possibility of Denard and Dee running the "Annexation of Puerto Rico" |
7 years 18 weeks ago | Sheppard |
Sheppard is the raido play by play guy for Michigan basketball, so if anything, he'd be biased TOWARD michigan. |
7 years 29 weeks ago | Discussed this same possibility with a buddy last night... |
We both felt RR has to have been keeping something up his sleeve for Sparty. The offense hasn't had to show many wrinkles due to the sheer dominance of Denard, but I would be SHOCKED if there aren't a few plays that involve more than 1 of the QB's. My favorite would be Denard and Gardner in the backfield, maybe trying to get Gardner isolated on a LB on a wheel route or a jumpball play near the goalline similar to the one that tOSU ran for Pryor a couple of times when Boeckmann was there. |

on August 10th in New Jersey. Given the World Cup and most players beginning preparations for their respective club seasons, it's debatable how many of the recognizable names for either side will be there. I would think the U.S. or Mexico based players would likely be there (Donovan, Buddle, Findlay, Torres, Gomez), but I would question if the guys that play on European club teams (Onyewu, Dempsey, Holden, etc.) will be there. Maybe we could see the return of Charlie Davies to the USMNT..... |

was the first game I attended at the Big House. I doubt my experience is any different than any others' first game. Truly, one of the more memorable sporting events in my life. The epic beatdown on TUOOS that day was icing on the cake. |

and he is an outstanding person. The phrase "nicest guy you'll ever meet" is thrown around a lot, but it's true with LaVall. So pumped he has gotten the opportunity to come back to Michigan. |
8 years 9 weeks ago | Looks like the Iowa fans are bringing out.. |
all the original plays on Michigan's name. "Make Michigan" on the front and "Our Bichigan" on the back. Also have seen an "Ann Arbor is a Whore" shirt. All they need is a "Wal-Mart Wolverine" one to complete the cycle. I know Iowa is really bad, but Lickliter should really have trouble looking his team in the face when he gives his munchkin son 7-10 minutes a game |

Is Antwan Boldin any relation to Anquan Boldin from the Cardinals? I know what you meant, but couldn't pass this one up. |

8 years 45 weeks ago | The Rule 5 rules also allow a |
The Rule 5 rules also allow a team to offer a selection back to the team the guy was originally selected from for $25,000. Not sure if you can then just cut him if the original team doesn't want him back either. You haven't seen Bloom this year because he was terrible in spring training and the Tigers offered him back to the Pirates and the Pirates accepted because they apparently didn't have enough terrible pitchers. |
