VA Beach (where I currently…

VA Beach (where I currently reside) is in fact the largest city by population in the commonwealth.  We along with Norfolk are the core of what's known as the "7 Cities".  As Seth mentioned, Portsmouth is just across the Elizabeth River from Norfolk and along with Suffolk, Chesapeake (which is where Western Branch is located), Hampton (the location Phobeus High School), and Newport News (the hometown of Allen Iverson and Michael Vick) join Norfolk & VA Beach as the Hampton Roads/Tidewater region of the state.  The combined population of these cities comes in around 1.6 million so not exactly a small area.  Also, if you throw in colonial Williamsburg and Richmond the population becomes even denser.  If the infrastructure was better and the cities could actually agree on some things, we may even land a pro franchise one day (it is of my opinion that the NBA or NHL would have the best odds of success).  What say you my fellow 757'ers?

Next stop, the Performance…

Next stop, the Performance Center in Orlando and NXT!  HBK, Triple H, and William Regal eagerly await your arrival.  Let the Brock Lesnar career path take you far!

Such as mature and reasoned…

Such as mature and reasoned response to why someone might not find wrestling/something/anything interesting anymore.  I don't think the fact that it is scripted is the reason for any decline as WWE posted record profits last year.  IMO wrestling's biggest problem is that very few of the wrestlers want to be true heels and/or today's woke culture doesn't allow those wrestlers to push the boundaries to get heat from the crowd.   Imagine the blowback if a wrestling company introduced a heel Russian character the way they would have in the 80's.  The uproar would be crazy, even from the fans themselves.

The problem with lifelong fans such as myself is that we can have a sort of Stockholm Syndrome situation where we either hope it someday gets better or nostalgia won't let us leave entirely.  Hell, those are the reasons I'll be in Dallas for Wrestlemania weekend for the environment it creates even though I am undecided on going to the show itself.

So, you and @highbeta are…

So, you and @highbeta are just out of the age range to have enjoyed wrestling in the late 90's?  Had pop culture already pass you by the same way that pop culture has passed me by today? Is that what the 2 of you are trying to convey?  You obviously know a little something about wrestling to describe yourself as a heel.

Thanks for the support, I…

Thanks for the support, I think??  How does this stack up to all of the other RIP post we get on this message board?  Certainly not above William Hurt's RIP post.  If Scott Hall had worn a Michigan shirt to the ring, would it be more acceptable?

I normally leave a thread…

I normally leave a thread when the snarky replies start but I am game for them on this one.  You must have been coolest guy ever to not know about the nWo in the mid to late 90's.  They were on the cover of TV Guide, on the front page of the sports section of USA Today, on The Tonight Show, and had features on ESPN.  I'll grant you that most of those instances I mentioned involved Hulk Hogan and not Scott Hall.  If you want to learn more about Scott Hall, that's what the links are for.  But to say "I have no fucking clue who or what "nWo" was, or what its/their effect on pop culture was" must mean you are way too cool for me or at least too cool for you to even comment on my thread.  Or are you just being the grammar police because I couldn't edit affect into effect?  Either way, you're being kind of a dick on this one Don.

The dreaded no edits on OP's got me.  Here is couple of other links I wanted to include not a repeat of the tribute video.  Apologies from the OP.

That "we" would be on here…

That "we" would be on here with pitchforks says more about us than it does about the action itself.  The statement above about being entertained was very satirical in a "its funny because its true" kind of way from what I inferred.

Logged in just to reply that I was at that Silverdome show.  That show was my first ever concert.  I don't remember a ton from the show except how loud it was, as I was only 7yrs old.  My aunt took my cousin & I and got us custom t's to wear to the show is the other thing I remember.

At my age (44), I have found it funny how much perspective relates to time.  If you are thinking about something that happened 3 years ago, it can seem like yesterday.  With other things, such as retirement for some of you or UM football's next best shot at something significant (or any of MI's sports team for that matter), three years can seem like the distant future.

I haven't researched it or…

I haven't researched it or anything like that but an acquaintance has mentioned a theory floating out there that is was we, the audience, as witness to all of Tony's indiscretions were that ones that was whacked.  I would have to say that is my personal favorite interpretation of the ending, even if it was not what we were meant to infer.

That was my initial thought…

That was my initial thought as well.  My other initial thought was that Gandolfini's son reminded me of a younger John Cusak.

The year was 1992.  A 15…

The year was 1992.  A 15 year old (not quite 16) Darth Saedd, playing on his church's "varsity" basketball team, has an "opportunity of a lifetime".  Down 1, the ball in their best player's hands, less 10 seconds on the clock, and the regular season title on the line, DS's team makes their move for the win.  Even though a 2-3 zone is the opposing team's primary defense, all of the defensive players converge on the ball handler allowing DS to slip in behind the defense and obtain position.  Since DS's team's best player has been instructed to "shoot no matter what", he forces a tough 16' jumpshot over multiple defenders.  The shot misses and the rebound falls directly to young DS.  With his family, church, and peers watching, DS thinks to himself "I am going to win the game".  All alone under the basket, DS goes up to lay in the championship winning basket.  Since this is a thread about worst experiences I think we all know if DS made the layup or not.  He cried and cried.  Jordan Morgan would've said "Damn, that's tough".

As in most heartbreaking stories there is a shot (no pun intended) at redemption.  The following season, in his "senior" against the same opponent, with the same stakes, the same deficit, and nearly the same amount of time on the clock a new strategy is employed.  With multiple players fouled out, a now 16 year old DS finds himself in the game again in the waning moments and is inexplicably fouled off the ball with his team in the 1 & 1.  The ref hands a calm DS the ball at the line.  DS dribbles a couple times, takes a breath, bends his knees, gets his elbow in tight, extends, and releases.  SWISH!!!!  The game is tied!  In what should be a much easier shot, the thoughts of the prior season runs through DS's mind and he becomes nervous.  With his right leg shaking as the ref hands him the ball again, DS repeats the same process as before.  Still nervous as he watches the ball in the air,  DS is vindicated as he watches the ball fall through the net.  One desperation miss later, the regular season title is won, DS is swarmed by his teammates and feels like the king of the court.

Other than that, I would say Stewart/Westbrook 1994.  Unfunnily enough my roommate and I played that matchup  the night before on Bill Walsh Football on Genesis.  I lost our game the EXACT same way.  The score wasn't the exact same but he most certainly beat me with a Stewart/Westbrook hail mary.  He was at work during the game and when he asked me how the game went (he was neither a UM or CU fan, so no emotional stake in game), he didn't believe that was how that game ended until he saw it on ESPN.

And yes, I do think they are cool stories,  otherwise I wouldn't have told them. HAHA

Matt, I hope you enjoyed…

Matt, I hope you enjoyed your time down here in the Tidewater region on VA!  Did you get a chance to check out any of the local beaches and attractions?

I've been torn about this…

I've been torn about this series but based on the boards response I am thinking I will give it a shot.  I agree with a lot of of the opinions expressed so far about the saga in this thread.  Everything said about TCW, Rebels, RO, and the trilogies have been pretty spot on IMO.  This might have been the most civil online discussion I have ever witnessed involving any divisive franchise.  Perhaps we should do this more often around here.

Great post and even better…

Great post and even better analysis by others!!  Kudos to all!

Speaking of the entanglement…

Speaking of the entanglement, the name of the move you're asking about is called a backslide.  The FSU player would drop to his knees sliding Dickinson down his bask to pin HD's shoulders to the mat.  A very old school move that rarely leads to a pinfall although it was used as a finish to a WWE championship match last year.  The announcers even sold(feigned) the surprise that a backslide would win the match like you wouldn't believe.  I will say that is definitely surprised us fans as most of the fans couldn't remember the last a match was won that way.  Most matches are some kind of wacky finish, a "schoolboy", a "small package"(cue the jokes haha), a "finisher", or a tap out.  I know the explanation is long to a question that no one really even asked but I thought I'd give some context.

Other than a couple pf grammatical errors, which could easily be attributed to auto correct from a device, how was this take downvoted?

I actually thought the 3rd …

I actually thought the 3rd "W" was for wanks(ers).  It's a OH restaurant so who cares haha?  I understood the BW2 reference. I think most would agree however, if you went to college almost ANYWHERE(or lived in/near a college town) in the 90's-early aughts that saying "Bdubs" would get you by.

We have Shake Shack's down here in Tidewater but I haven't been there yet so no reviews from me.

There is a Raising Cane's on ODU's campus if you're in Norfolk on day.

I've had Zaxby's once while…

I've had Zaxby's once while traveling home from NC and I was fairly impressed with their tenders.  It is good to know there is one near Richmond if/when I am in that area.  Cook Out does have great shakes and decent food.  They are open very late when not in a pandemic and give you a great bang for your buck even if the quality not quite top notch.

I'll also will have to ask friends in your area about BurgerWorks and Burger Bach and get their opinions on those places.  I was also just thinking starting a separate thread about Wawa vs. Royal Farms vs. Sheetz three way dance on the best gas station food haha.

To you other VA fellas, do…

To you other VA fellas, do you have Cook Out yet? Or Zaxby's? We have plenty of Cook Out's here in Hampton Roads although they're not exactly on every corner.  Zaxby's hasn't quite made its way to the 757 yet but we get their advertisements locally and there is one just on the other side of the VA/NC line off of 95.  What regional places(or perhaps you have your Zaxby's already) do you have in your part of VA that we may not have down here in Tidewater yet?

To answer the OP, Five Guys by default since there is no In-n-Out here.  Chick Fil-A for the sandwich, nuggets, & tea but Popeyes for the tenders & fries.  However as several posters above have said Cane's crushes Popeyes and a very honorable mention to Hardee's/Carl Jr's on their tenders as well..

Hell, in some states a 70 is a D minus!

Are you sure that wasn't John Cena?

I have this argument…

I have this argument frequently living in the Hampton Roads area of VA.  Hell AI & I probably have less than 3 degrees of separation(even though I've never met him).  The people I tend to deal with seem to think he is the best PG of all time even though he never averaged above 10apg much less lead the league.  Did he even average 8apg? He won a couple of scoring titles while being an offensive black hole.  As I type this I am just now remember how the trade for AI was the true downfall of the Pistons.  People tend to forget that the team he "willed" to the Finals had the COY(Larry Brown), the DPOY(Mutombo), and the 6thMOY(George Lynch).  I would think that a team with that kind of hardware is more than a bunch of "nobodies".  Give me Isiah Thomas 6 days a week and twice on Sundays!!

I am sure those of you have…

I am sure those of you have replied to this thread already have gone to the dirt sheet sites and know the details already However for of those of you who came to the thread out of curiosity I thought I would leave some of the details.  According to his wife's IG post it was a non Covid related lung issue and was surrounded by his loved ones.

On side note, it is amazing how much news I hear about first right here on MGO.

If you can find it, I…

If you can find it, I recommend watching the Comedy Central Roast of Bruce Willis.  Bruce Willis answers the question himself.  According to the link below, BW says "It's a G** D*** Bruce Willis movie".

I was aware of the phrase…

I was aware of the phrase prior to the Black-ish episode but was not aware of its true meaning prior to that.  Black-ish is, IMO, is a great show.  I have always loved shows that could entertain me while also expanding my awareness.  ABC recently reran the episode title Juneteenth, along with another episode entitled "Hope" back to back recently as both became topically important again.  I also recommend the episode "Lemons" as well.  Quite frankly I enjoy all three of Kenya Harris' current offerings, Black-ish, Mixed-ish, and Black AF.

Also correct me if I am wrong RGard, but didn't VA already declare it a state holiday?

My Germans do the same thing…

My Germans do the same thing with the lawn mower!  The also bite at the rake, leaf blower, shovels, water coming out of the water hose, and will go up against the weed wacker once per use(they tend to remember fast about the weed wacker haha),  It takes forever to get things done sometimes!

IMHO, I would say Don's…

IMHO, I would say Don's comment is the perfect way to conflate chrisu's prior comment and the people who want to say our "scandal is not as bad as our scandal" crowds.

Personally, I agree with chrisu's take 100%(also the take of Webb & Bacon on WTKA this morning) but also think that Don's comment was spot on!  If I was capable & points were functional, I would totally upvote you so I send a spiritual upvote instead.

I understand and agree with…

I understand and agree with most of what you're saying but I think you are underestimating Magic & Mike.  Magic would possibly not be considered the all time great player he was is in the 80's and 90's but he would still be as transcendent to the globe as he was then IMHO.  Think a personable Russel Westbrook playing in the bright lights of Hollywood.  As far as MJ is concerned, while you are correct saying that MJ would not have the athletic advantages he had in his prime, I still believe he would be amongst the elite.  MJ's drive and passion would not allow him to settle for anything less, think LBJ with a killer instinct.  MJ's game, while not exactly modernly fashionable, was efficient even in its era, will always be difficult to defend, and 30ppg is 30 ppg no matter how you accomplish it.

My All Time 5 to play a modern game would be

PG Magic

CG MJ

Wing Scottie Pippen

Stretch 4 Bird

5 Kareem(If they can't stops X's hook today, how would players stop Kareem's?)

Bench would be Reggie Miller, Alonzo Mourning, Grandmama, and Steve Nash.

On the play ground give me

PG Magic

SG MJ

SF Bird

PF Malone

C Duncan

Disclaimer: I am very aware that my picks are all 80's era or newer but I did want to pick players for whom I was personally alive while the were in the prime. I am also not saying these are "the best ever", just those players whom I would draft for a fantasy exercises such as this.

Right after I post…

Right after I post essentially the same opinion(re. offensive player making contact) as a reply to another poster I come back to see you have already said the same much more eloquently than I ever could.  Spiritual +1 to you sir!

I couldn't agree more with…

I couldn't agree more with you PRB!  I would say that ejecting players hits that where the spot of impact is often determined in the last split second of a play and USUALLY not intentional/malicious is a bit extreme. The 15 yard penalty & auto 1st down should be enough of a deterrent for under most circumstances.  Egregious & intentional contact, while a bit more subjective, should still be an ejection and/or a suspension.  How can you expect defensive players eliminate all helmet to helmet contact when often it is the offensive player who initiates said contact by lowering their helmet first?  Also isn't considered targeting when making contact with the crown of the helmet?  If I am not mistaken, don't ball carriers/RB's make some sort of contact with their crowns on most plays?  Isn't a stiff arm a hand on the helmet/face/above the neck?  When do contact rules begin to apply to offensive players?  I get the rules these days are skewed towards the offenses to promote scoring and/or for safety but when does the safety of the defensive player become a priority as well?

So to answer the OP, my opinion is to give officials a little more leeway in game and perhaps review it after the game to determine the seriousness of the punishment or expand it to include the safety & well being of all the players.

As a non-spoiler review I…

As a non-spoiler review I would say that IMHO the movie was great upon first, second, and like Rogue One I am sure it will be even better after multiple viewings.  I am also sure the novelization will add even more depth to the character development and world building(also like RO).  The pacing of the film was very fast and hard to truly process everything that was happening but the character growth(especially Finn & Poe), CGI, cinematography, and visuals were amazing.

While I agree with most of you in saying TLJ was a bottom half film within the franchise, I also think that a lot of the complaints about the ST are more about fanboys(/persons) being upset that their vision for the saga was not met.  I know that most of my complaints about TROS are more about my "vision" than the decisions of the filmmakers and what was best for the mass audience.  I personally would've rather have used the EU as a template for the ST, but I also understand Disney's need to wipe the slate clean for storytelling purposes and, I am sure as fans themselves, JJ & RJ did the best they could within the parameters they were given.

My personal complaints of TROS would be(***spoilers ahead***) "the kiss"(take your pick, 1 was complete fan service for the Reylo shippers and the other was completely shoe-horned in,  NTTAWWT but I don't think it was necessary just to make social activist happy.), no Hayden on screen(Yes!  I think he made a great Anakin.  Can't blame HC for his dialogue & direction in the prequels.), and the LAZY ret-conning.  Concerning that ret-conning point, I am not against  ret-conning per se, I just don't like it when ret-conning is done with no plausible explanation behind the false narrative we were given prior(ie. Boba Fett's origins).  What makes it even worse is that Lucas gave the writers a back door to make changes all the way back in 1983 with 6 words, "From a certain point of view".  Those words should've allowed Kylo to explain why he told Rey her parents were nobodies, rather than saying "they chose to be nobodies" as he did in TROS.  A simpler explanation would've been  for Rey to have been a great granddaughter rather than a granddaughter, her mother/father(it was never explicitly stated which of her parents was Palpatine's offspring) being completely unaware of their lineage, her mother/father having disturbing/unexplained visions which drove them & their partner to drink away their madness, and Rey was in fact sold for drinking money just like RJ explained in EP. 8.  Then Kylo explains that what he told her was true "from a certain point of view" and while it doesn't make everything better, it does make it more palatable to "the purist" within myself.

After all of that I will reiterate that TROS was an enjoyable experience that I look forward to revisiting and catching all the small details I will miss even after my 100th viewing.

My personal rankings for anyone who cares

1. ESB(of course it is)

2. RO(I HIGHLY recommend the novelization if you enjoyed this film.  The backstory and motivations for the supporting characters greatly enhance the emotion in an already highly emotional movie)

3. ROTS(Who doesn't like a dark & tragic film with great 1 on 1 duels?)

Here's where my rankings get controversial

4. TROS(see details above, not perfect but probably the best we could realistically ask for)

5. ANH(changed special effects and the movie going experience forever)

6. Solo(Take it for the heist movie that it is and I think you'll find it a lot more enjoyable.  Arguably the best cast of any SW movie that suffered from it's release date and being compared to the story of RO)

7. ROTJ(devalued a bit by the ST as the heroes obviously DID NOT live happily ever after)

8. TFA(complete rehash but easily digestible that brought SW back to our everyday consciousness)

9. TLJ(take out the Canto Bight scenes/Finn's story arc and you have an underrated film IMHO)

10. TPM(Maul, Qui-Gon, and arguably the best score & lightsaber fight of the saga)

11. ATOC(Obi Wan's time to shine but sand being coarse and getting everywhere causes it to bring up the caboose)

12. Clone Wars movie(I love the character of Ashoka, but damn did she have a rough start)

The Clone Wars(TV), Rebels, and The Mandolorian add plenty to the SW universe while Star Wars Resistance adds little and can be ignored without missing out on anything.  We'll see what the future holds going forward.

So there is the reviews & opinions of someone whose life was affected and shaped by the Holy Trilogies.  In the end however SW is like sex to me, even when SW is bad, it is still pretty damn enjoyable.  So my advice would to be enjoy it while it last and hope you can cum again tomorrow haha!

PS.  To Gucci Mane, I cried several times also and I knew there was a good reason to defend you in the deceased pets thread last week.(Although I still disagree w/your opinions on pets, I fully support your right to express them without fear of ridicule & persecution)

PSS. Yes! Username checks out haha!

According to the man himself…

According to the man himself, during his highly recommended roast(my opinion anyways), Die Hard is not a Christmas movie.  It is a Bruce F****** Willis movie!  As far as grievances are concerned, I could do without all the negativity, trolls, star gazing, existential crisis' following losses or recruits that choose a different school, the way the boards allow the trolls to troll them, facetiousness, and yes the site redesign.  I personally click on every thread to show some support to a free site with my clicks(and Amazon purchases when I think about it) but the constructive conversations that keeps me coming back to the board are fewer and farther in between.
