Saginaw High has really declined in enrollment the last few years. They have 667 kids now, down from nearly 1,100 in 2007. They lost to Vassar, a decent Class C school with 350 kids, in their season opener last night 58-14. Going to be a long year when they still have to play the likes of Mt Pleasant, Dow, Flint Powers, etc.

Glad to hear everything went well. My father had the sixtuple (is that a word?) bypass surgery a few years back. Still remember it well, realizing how close he was to having a heart attack (all were 70% or more blocked). Best of luck on your recovery!

I got the gun, you got the briefcase. It's all in the game though, right?
Great scene with Omar in the court room. Was just telling my buddy that I need to go back and re-watch the series.

Grocery is another mispronounced word. Easterners call it grow-sir-eee while Michiganders say grow-sure-eee.

I was out in Cali in April and asked a waitress where the nearest party store was. After asking her coworkers, she said there was a Costco nearby where I could get party supplies like cups, balloons, etc.
That was very nice of her, but I just wanted booze.

The reactions of the players from both teams and the coaches was truly heartbreaking.
Had this same injury happen right in front of me playing basketball in high school. An opponent jumped for a rebound and when he landed his leg snapped in half, bone protruding. I immediately looked at their bench and waved for someone to come over. Back in our huddle a couple teammates were fighting off the urge to vomit. Something I'll never forget.

List of some of the in-state talent that has escaped Tubby since he took over:
2008: Jared Berggren (Wisc); Jordan Taylor (Wisc)
2009: Mike Bruesewitz (Wisc); Trent Lockett (Arizona St.). Also Royce White ('09 Mr. Basketball) committed to Minnesota then transferred to Iowa St before ever playing for the Gophers. *Other lightly recruited players in this class include Ethan Wragge (Creighton) and Mike Muscala (Bucknell).
2010: Kevin Noreen (West Virginia, '10 Mr. Basketball)
2011: Shelby Moats (Vanderbilt); Ross Travis (Penn St.). Other than current Gopher Joe Coleman, there was nobody really of note that year.
2012: Mr. Basketball Siyani Chambers (Harvard) was only a 3* according to Scout. His other offers were CMU and Nebraska.
2013: Similar to 2012. 3* Riley Dearring is going to Wisconsin but his other offers were Drake, Illinois St. and Northeastern.
2014: Five-stars Tyus Jones and Rashad Vaughn are two of the top players in the country with offers from all the traditional powers.
Aside from a few players, Tubby really hasnt missed out on much talent because, well, there wasnt much talent to begin with, particularly 2010-2013.

Im actually looking forward to the Wisconsin/Ole Miss game. Will be interesting to see if Wisconsin can frustrate Ole Miss and Marshall Henderson (aka Eric Devendorf Jr) and force them into playing Badger-ball. Henderson is one of those players that can go off for 40+ every game and single-handedly will his team through a few rounds.

I think Burke will be fine handling the press.
My two biggest concerns are:
1) if VCU forces the ball out of Burke's hands, how do THJ, LeVert, Stauskas and GRIII handle the pressure. Timmy is known to be careless with the ball at times and the other 3 are freshman.
2) How tired does Burke get if he has to constantly break the press by himself. Stamina could be a big issue late in the game.This is what teams like VCU thrive on. They dont necesarily force turnovers all game long, but they wear you down to where you are physically tired and thus more mistake prone in the second half. Saginaw High is a team that does this to perfection at the high school level.

Check out the article about VCU's press that was linked above.
Basically, two players were asked if Smart would call off the dogs. One responded by saying only if they were up big with a couple minutes remaining. The other said they would still press, just not trap, and that he has never heard Smart tell them to stop pressing.

This hurts. I tore my ACL a little over a year ago so I have a pretty good idea of what Jake will go through. It's not fun and can be downright depressing at times. Him being a D1 athlete at a major university makes it that much worse. Unlike me, however, he does have 24/7 access to the best doctors and trainers out there.
One bright side is that it did happen early, so the coaches will have ample time to groom his replacement before season starts.
|1 year 44 weeks ago||Seems like everyone is taking||
Seems like everyone is taking Louisville vs Indiana. I think one of them will not make it to the final four. Both have pretty tough roads. Louisville has a St. Louis squad that in any other bracket would be a favorite to make a long run and then either MSU or Duke. Indiana could face a talented but inconsistent NC State team, the zone of Syracuse and then an experienced Miami team.
If I had to guess, I would say Indiana will not be making the trip to Atlanta.

Wonder what Kentucky's freshman will do regarding the draft. They clearly arent ready for the League, but that hasnt stopped guys before them. Im assuming Calipari has signed another full class for next year, what does he do if some of these guys decide to stay? Or will he 'push' them out?
|1 year 44 weeks ago||Morris has been a known name||
Morris has been a known name since his freshman year while Walton wasnt very well-known until his signed with Michigan last year. Also working against Walton is James Young. Both are in the Metro Detroit area and likely split the vote amongst the voters, while Morris likely took the Tri-Cities, Thumb and Northern Lower.
And the fact that Morris has a state title and has been to at least the semifinals in each of his first 3 years doesnt hurt. Barring any crazy upsets this week, he will likely win his second straight state title as Beecher is Class C #1 at 23-1 with that lone loss coming to Class A #1 (and undefeated) Detroit Pershing.

Im getting kind of tired of the freshman/sophomore excuse. It's just that, an excuse. Freshman all over the country are playing very good ball right now and dont make the same mistakes that our guys make. That falls on coaching.
This team takes on the same demeanor as their coach: laid back, no fire, no sense of urgency. Defense and rebounding are all about energy and desire, two things this team lacks. They'll be lucky to win a game in the tournament.

|1 year 49 weeks ago||Valentine's Day was 8 months||
Valentine's Day was 8 months post-op for me. Tore my ACL and meniscus last February playing basketball. Initially didnt think much of it and about 6 weeks later after the swelling resided I was back playing basketball until I landed with all my weight on it and it gave out again. MRI revealed the damage and I opted for surgery.
My doctor recommended the patella graft so that's the route we took. Im only 29 and still pretty active so it was the best choice. Biggest advice I can give is to stay diligent on the rehab. I only went to PT twice a week, but each visit they gave me exercises to do at home and I kept to a strict 3-times daily routine of rehab at home. After two months I was nearly back to 100% full range of motion and just had to work on strenthening my leg muscles. I didnt do any 'prehab' (doctor never mentioned it so maybe he didnt think it was necessary) but looking back I wish I would have now. The amount of muscle lost through atrophy is incredible.
So far no issues. Started playing bball again about a month ago. Just taking it slow and half-ass guarding guys in pick up ball but it feels good to be back out there. Few downsides to the patella option are the numbness you get on the outer part of the knee due to the nerves being cut when they slice you open to take the patella tendon. Also, it's hard to put pressure/kneel on that knee. Just feels really weird and it probably something I will have to get used to over time. Doctor said it may go away, it may not.
The first few weeks will be the hardest, after that you will start to notice daily improvements and see your rehab paying off. Good luck!

I hadn't heard of this kid until now but he seems like a player. Consortium is a Class C school and appears to be on a collision course with Flint Beecher for the state title. Beecher is the defending champs, #1 in Class C and only loss (after blowing 18 pt lead) is to Class A #1 Detroit Pershing.

Wish I could have gotten news like that. Tore my ACL and lateral meniscus last spring playing basketball. Had surgery in June. Just had my 6 month checkup last week, doc still says it is too weak for a return to sports. I guess ice fishing will have to be my wintertime activity. Best of luck with surgery.
