Were you at the bbq cook-off yesterday? I've seen you post about being in Shanghai, and I figure there's probably a good chance I've run into you before. |

I'm not finding the article now, but Wayne State's coach, after they made their playoff run a couple of seasons ago, was very vocal about his displeasure with the toll it took on his players, both physically and academically. I remember one line about riding the bus back after a win and the only thing on his mind was the question of how many of his students were failing all of their classes. |

I've been debating bailing on work to meet some friends at the Camel. Also, Gold Cider Club is having a watch party. Either way, my productivity tomorrow will be shot. |

Anyone know of any places in Hong Kong that open early for American sports? I haven't been able to find a place yet. |

The blow-up here from a bunch of people with no in-depth knowledge of the situation over a guy who has contributed almost nothing on offense is a little bit ridiculous. |

They've had a fun band for years. I remember we we played at Autzen in 03, and, every time they got a first down, their band played Move Bitch. I thought it was funny and awesome, even as a losing visiting fan. |

It was a good read for me on a Wednesday morning in Shanghai. Always good to see fellow Wolverines in town. You doing the game at Gold Cider Club on Sunday morning? |

Anyone know a place in Shanghai that will be broadcasting the game live this Sunday morning? I see Big Bamboo plans to show a delayed version, but I don't want to have to wait. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

A buddy of mine told me yesterday afternoon he would be going to a midnight showing. I had no idea what he was talking about. That was honestly the first time I had ever heard of this movie. I still don't really understand what the deal is. People have been excited for years? This is a movie, right? |

I love the app. It has to be in the top-five most used apps on my phone. I would like to see a few improvements though: 1. Ability to hide stickies 2. Ability to display comments in oldest-to-newest order 3. Improved hyperlink recognition (does it recognize at all right now?) 4. Increased comment-posting speed |

| 1 year 6 weeks ago | Just Be Careful |
It's inevitable that a coach will piss some people off when he leaves a school. I've heard Kyle Turley say some pretty nasty things about Brady Hoke. I'm not saying the article is false. Just be careful about in these types of circumstances. |
| 1 year 6 weeks ago | I haven't seen any |
I haven't seen any advertisements for any all-you-can-drink deals anywhere, but I would be interested if someone else has. Opening day tends to get pricey quickly. Hoots on the Avenue (Trumbull & Michigan) had some ridiculous gameday specials last season, and they run a free shuttle to and from the park. You also don't have the issues with shuttle lines that you see at Nemo's just down the block. Hoots is my regular gameday spot, and that's just because a whole season of parking and drinking expensive booze takes a nasty toll on my wallet by the end of the summer. |

The Fillmore puts on a good pre-grame party. I highly recommend the Elwood parking structure for after-party. During the game, Beer Hall is the place to get your booze as it's your one spot for Anheuser Busch products inside the park, but I'm sure you already know that one. |

| 1 year 10 weeks ago | Some of you are making these |
Some of you are making these threads way less fun than they should be. This is really good news, and it's something to be celebrated. Our coaches, I believe, have done enough to earn a little bit of the benefit of the doubt. And it's so early in the process that the coaches are ahead of the recruiting services at this point when it comes to evaluating some of the guys who are high on our board. The coaches know that what they have to offer is special and coveted. Hoke seems to believe that just as much as anyone I've ever encountered. If they are taking a player, especially this early in the process, I am certain they really want him in the class. Also, remember how everyone keeps celebrating the impressive character of the guys we've been bringing in? That's not a coincidence. Our coaches are focusing heavily on that aspect of a recruit as well. They are talking to coaches, teachers, and parents. We don't get a guy's character-highlight reel. But we've seen at least one five-star turned away because he apparently didn't fit in the off-the-field categories. We've also seen highly rated players not work out for personal reasons in the past. There are a lot of different factors that affect a player's ability to succeed here. We have a very narrow perspective from our living rooms and offices. I'm very excited to see a four-star, 6'2, very athletic corner from Ohio who grew up a Michigan fan commit to us eleven months before signing day. Welcome to the class, Gareon. I'm excited to have you in the class. |
| 1 year 10 weeks ago | That's not what I heard |
My take from what he said was that the guys were intimidated by the zone and told Coach they wanted to go man, but they should have trusted him and stayed in zone. I am in a loud room and could have misunderstood, but that was my take. |

I'm with you 100%. I don't like a mustard yellow. I think Iowa's yellow looks cheap. I think the contrast of the bright yellow of the wings on the helmet against the dark navy blue under a noon sun when the team comes out of the tunnel on fall Saturdays is the sexiest thing I get to see all week. I do think the numbers on the helmet should match the wings, and it is obviously intentional that they do not, which I don't understand at all. But, if it were up to me, we'd go with the wings' color and not the numbers' color. |

| 1 year 13 weeks ago | During the summer of 2006, I |
During the summer of 2006, I was watching a Tigers game with a guy I had lived with while we were undergrads at Michigan. He asked if I had ever read this blog (I hadn't), and he started explaining UFRs. When I got home that night, I checked it out. I was a casual reader until the rumors of Lloyd retiring started heating up. Then I became a regular haloscan junkie. The Search 1.0 was a very entertaining time on haloscan with all the handle-jacking and "reliable" rumor sources. |
| 1 year 17 weeks ago | Shifted Focus |
The most frustrating part of this whole story, which I first started reading about in the backseat of a car on the way back to Ann Arbor from Iowa City this past fall, has been how the focus has been on Penn State, Sandusky, and Paterno, when it should have been about these poor kids who were victimized and have suffered as a result of the actions, inactions, and utter failures of all three entities listed above. I work in child welfare, so perhaps my perspective is naturally drawn to the kids in an instance such as this one, but how have the kids not been the story? Why wasn't it immediately expected that Joe would devote the rest of his life to raising money and awareness for victims of child abuse to atone for the suffering that occured under his watch for more than a decade at least? When I think of Joe now, I think of the kids who could have been saved, kids who Joe failed. Are we really going to talk about a FOOTBALL TEAM, WINS, COACHING LEGACY? Tell me I'm not the only one appalled by this. And the minimum legal standard is completely irrelevant. Does anyone actually think that the minimum legal standard is meaningful, regardless of Joe's status or influence? The scene that breaks my heart the most, for those of you who read the indictment, was when McQueary talked about coming into the locker room on that Friday night, heard those disturbing sounds, walked into the showers, and saw this vicious act taking place. McQueary claims that Sandusky AND this now nameless young boy both turned and looked at McQueary. I try to imagine what was going through this tortured boy's mind when he saw McQueary. That poor boy probably felt a wave or relief, a glimmer of hope that someone was going to save him from this monster. And it brings tears to my eyes to think about the horror he must have felt when McQueary turned and left without doing a thing. I think about that scene and how there was an opportunity to save that defenseless child who was being preyed upon by a monster. And I can't help but despise McQueary for his failure at that time. Joe had the resources and abilities to save every victim from that day forward. For whatever selfish reasons, he chose not to. It makes me sick. I don't care how many years he spent living the life of a celebrity, how many games he won, how many players he coached. If one child had been raped as a result of his failure to act, that would have outweighed all else. He let it go on for over a decade. Thank you, Brian, for using the platform you've built to try to remind us all who we should really be thinking about. I'll use this time to reflect on those tortured by Sandusky and to hope that none of them have taken their own lives as a result of the crimes that occurred in the PSU football facilities. |
| 1 year 17 weeks ago | Agree that this is a common B1G sentiment |
It was my sophomore year in college, and we were playing PSU at the Big House. There were three PSU fans--grown men--standing next to me in the student section. For some reason, we were talking about Ohio State and the rivalry. My friend on the other side of me turned and asked these nice fellas what game on their schedule was big for them like that, which one they got most excited about. My heart honestly ached a little when the guy directly to my right hung his head and said in a quiet voice, "We're at it." My buddy's question was since and not meant to be nasty at all. Nonetheless, it broke this poor, grown man who had been so friendly with us the whole game. That was pretty much the end of our conversation too. I actually felt bad. |

That was my assumption. I would love to see a team do it. Often, Izzzo was way out on the floor looking down the court at his players with his back turned to the ball. On the instance when I started to wonder about this, an official actually ran over to stand between Burke and Izzo because Izzo wasn't paying any attention. |
