I was 9 years old when the "Miracle on Ice" happened and remember it vividly until this day. Most casual fans don't remember that beating the Russians was not the Gold Medal game, it was to get into the final. We ended up beating Finland in the next game to win the gold. That's how this week has felt- Alabama was our Soviet game and the Washington victory secured the Championship.
Just watched this segment - the biggest thing I noticed is how much Lewan has slimmed down after being out of the league for only a year. I have not seen any of his content lately, but good for him for shedding all of that unhealthy weight.
Question - I was up at the Indiana game on 10/14/23. I took pictures of the crowd, videos of the sideline, etc. If I send these videos to the OSU AD, members of the OSU coaching staff, Brent Zdebski, and Sam McGrath - can I self-report myself to the NCAA? I would have direct proof and footage that I emailed the above people. Just curious...
Great stuff Seth! I'm probably showing my age here, but I swear Donovan Edwards looks like Tony Boles when gets out into that gallop in the open field. Both have the long, loping stride that makes it look like they are barely running - until you see they are pulling away from every defender.
I do believe that these NIL deals will eventually become de facto contracts for recruits. Not happy with current playing time or spot on the depth chart? Entering transfer portal immediately voids NIL deal. Get injured and can no longer play? No NIL for you! Heck, we might even see 5* recruits lose portions of their deals if they don’t pan out or “meet their quota”(sacks, rushing yards, passing yards, etc.).
Reporting from enemy territory down here in Metro ATL. Listening do the local media bitch about Kirby Smart is almost a carbon copy of prior Harbaugh complaints. He can recruit QB talent, but can’t develop or retain it (Justin Fields, JT Daniels, etc.). He plays favorites, etc. If you didn’t know better, you’d think GA went 2-4 last year and was recruiting at a middling SEC pace.
It would be just our luck if Day leaves for Chicago, Meyer flames out after one year at Jacksonville and comes back to Columbus after claiming to be "humbled and rehabilitated".
You'll have to excuse my transfer portal ignorance here, but going forward, I thought you were only allowed 7 per year? I thought the ruling came out in October of 2021 that you are allowed 25 signing day recruits + 7 transfers from the portal per year. Is that correct? Again, just asking out of curiosity.
The LLoyd Brady - historical thread. Still my all-time favorite. I see some of the pictures are no longer there, but it was fabulous back in 2010 when created.
I'm dating myself here, but I graduated in 1993 and my 4 seasons there (89-92) we never lost to OSU. We were 3-0-1 during that time with the 13-13 tie in '92. "92 was such a weird year in that we had 3 ties and then went on to beat Washington in the Rose Bowl. Desmond's Heisman pose was my junior year in '91 and that was probably my favorite game.
It will be interesting to see how he is used the remainder of the year, but I see a combination of Aaron Shea and Owen Schmitt (the runaway beer truck).

This exactly. I think part of it is our mostly man-to-man scheme allows it. Good OC's get us into unfavorable match-ups and exploit them. Why was Mettellus on Hamler? Last year, OSU identified our slowest DB and picked us apart. Hell, I go back to Don Brown's first year in the Bowl game against FSU. We saw their All-American RB, Dalvin Cook, go in to motion and I see Mike McCray follow him and it turns into a TD.
You CANNOT overestimate Urb's recruiting ability. That will be the most difficult thing to replicate. If he can't do that, their success won't be sustainable. Time will tell.....
