Mike Matheny played baseball at Michigan for Bill Freehan. Go Tigers, but I also want to see Matheny make it to the World Series and make UM baseball proud.
The Michigan coach was Bill Freehan. The same guy who had (has) the Big Ten hitting mark going .585. He was then an 11 time All Star and 5 time Gold Glove winner with the Detroit Tigers. Freehan was brought in to clean up the mess Bud Middaugh created at Michigan. Freehan sat Jeter down and told him he might never have a chance to play pro ball again, and the smart move is to sign with the Yankees. Michigan still had Ryan VanOveran as a short stop. Jeter did not leave the team high and dry, and clearly made the right decision.
or it could mean Hoke contacted English to talk to Steve Morrison. Morrison (started as a true freshman, was all Big-Ten and played 4 years with the Colts) is English's lb coach.
his son was the punter at Lasher. He is a student at UM and walked on the team as a punter during the fall tryouts. He is practicing with the team, but not sure if he is "on the team."
returned a kickoff, punt and ran for a TD against us. I still have clete marks on my chest where Jessie "House Cat" Johnson ran over me. Steve Morrison took my head off as I came around end on an option. I played baseball at UM with Mike Matheny (4x gold glove winner) and Brian Simmons.
Thanks for the post. I played for Freehan. Great guy to play for and would do anything for his players. He was initially hamstrung with Middaugh's recruiting violations and got crap players like me. Near the end of stint as coach he started getting sold recuits (Scott Weaver, Brian Simmons). The worst part was he "turned in" to the NCAA by his brother-in-law. The same brother-in-law Freehan hired from MSU to be an assistant coach.
was a beast from Bishop Gallagher. I still have cleat marks on my chest from when he ran me over. He got bust for B&E while playing and got into the dog house. Plus he was sharing time with Ricky Powers and Wheatley, which didn't help his case.

I'd rather have Steve Morrison as LB coach. He was DC at Western and current LB coach with Ron English.
