Is the "shadow effect" a specious concept that is created to gloss over Michigan's middling recruiting at the position? I'm not saying it is, I'm just saying it might be.
The logic does seem fairly faulty: We did such a good job bringing in McCarthy, it's actually depressed our ability to attract top talent in later classes because those younger recruits don't want to be in his shadow or believe they can compete at his level. I guess I am suggesting that the concept is BS. No physical harm intended.
Cincy getting some really bad calls in this game. Got flagged for a downfield lineman penalty when there was a clear hold on the GA defense. Then a no-call on a blatant hands to the face on a blitzing LB. Whoof.
Yes, but with the heavy reliance on the threes, there were games when we couldn’t buy a bucket and struggled to find other scoring. It was more hot and cold. This seems to be a relatively consistent and balanced offense compared to the Beilein teams.

The play could be common without the illegal part of the letting the ball bounce. When kicking off after a 15 yard penalty, it seems like a low risk-high reward opportunity to drop kick (legally) a high pooch to the 25-30 yard line. Worst case they get the ball at the 25-30. Best case is a recovery by the kicking team.

I don’t buy this “settled in” stuff. While it’s likely preferable, it’s certainly not essential as evidenced by so many inexperienced players on other teams shedding it out of the gates. So this whole succession and break-em-in slowly theory is no longer relevant.

I remember a play near the end, with DCD up big, where it was a 2-on-0 with Webber trailing his point guard. Webber yells "board" and the PG tosses it off the backboard for a dunk.
