Just happened while reading…

Just happened while reading this post. Using a Samsung S8.

One question... how do we…

One question... how do we decide how far to go back in the series to look at who's doing better? Is it a lopsided 8-3 for MSU? Is it 2-1 for the good guys? Is it 9-8 for the good guys? 4-2 for MSU? Or, all time, 70-36-5 for UM?

Just curious, because it seems we hear a lot about how MSU has dominated UM in the media, among players and especially fans. How do you all handle those "we dominate you" MSU antics?

Go Blue!! Go Beilein!!!

Go Blue!!!

Prisco seems to use arbitrary reasoning

That F for Peppers is paired with nearly the same comment ("I don't like this pick at all. Where does he play?") as his C+ for Ryan Ramczyk to NO ("I don't get this pick. Where does he play?"). Arbitrary?

Then, in his "biggest remaining roster hole" article from 5 days ago, he says that the Lions need a big play, speedy linebacker... which seems to describe Jarrod Davis (in his description, he says as much) and that pick only gets a B-.

Its as if he used a random grade generator for his article. An arbitrary outlier for sure.

March Madness here we come!

Wagner with 22 in the first half... played out of his mind! Go Blue!!

Whats with all the HR

Whats with all the HR department butthurt on the board tonight?

There are idiots in every field... HR is one of them... but not the exclusive domain for fools with power-trips.

From the HR perspective...

From the HR perspective... they should at least give the candidate a reason for pulling the offer... more than just a generic non-answer.

Admittedly, 15% over offer is a fairly high ask... but certainly not so high that responding in an unprofessional manner (as the HR person did here) is called for.

Agreed. Though I've never

Agreed. Though I've never pulled offers, I've always established comp expectations right up front... before the first real interview. In 13 years of hiring, I've only had one or two try to push for something beyond our initial expectations. In those cases, I give them a laugh, remind them of our prior conversation and why nothing has changed since that conversation to convince me they need more... the offer is the offer. Take it or don't.

That said, I've walked away from candidates when the comp is not in the same ballpark... but I at least tell them that up front and usually agree together that the position/organization is not the best fit for what they're interested in. Never heard of pulling an offer because someone negotiated. That's just weak sauce.

Great story. You must have

Great story. You must have gotten a lot of laughs out of that!!

I was in HR for about 13 years, working mostly in large companies and with management types. More recently, I took a new job out in one of the field locations. There were a good number of college students and entry-level positions. I couldn't believe how many spouses and parents of our employees called or stopped in to talk about a situation their spouse or child had gotten into. Pay, discipline issues, work relationship problems, other random complaints... blew my mind!!!

Wouldn't that be great? If we

Wouldn't that be great? If we could return to the norm in TO differential during B1G play, we may actually stand a chance.

Three games down, Turnover

Three games down, Turnover margin is 1:8 in favor of the bad guys. Yet, our cumulative score is 86 to 55, good guys. This will not hold up if we cannot take care of the football. What gives?

Don't forget Arkansas

We played Arkansas in 11'/12' and this year. They were super pesky both years. Last year we looked like a deer in headlights... this year they hung around and made a tough game of it. I worry that VCU is a lot stronger than Arkansas. Should be a doozy tomorrow!

Just to clarify

Sexual orientation is a protected class in your state, California. However, it is not a protected class federally and in many other states and local jurisdictions. So, he may actually be an employer, but in one of those unprotected states. I understand the passion... but, man, get your facts straight before laying down the wood on someone like that!

73 - 56 Beilein

Charles White phantom TD

Great timing on this thread (at least for me). My parents just came across this old photo from an uncle who passed a few years ago (Michigan Alum). He's got a few great bits of Michigan parafanalia (hoping to get my hands on some of it).

Since I was 4 when this occurred, I had to dig a bit to figure out what this play was. When I read about the controversy, it became quite obvious why there was so much outrage after looking at where the ball in this picture is bouncing!

Somebody forgot his Lithium

Somebody forgot his Lithium tonight! Just need to calm down. Everything is going to be okay... even if you stop condescending to internet people!

Well... shit!

Well... shit! I just grew 10 gray hairs!

Like a lot of other posters,

Like a lot of other posters, I was pissed off during the RR years. I couldn't believe he'd try to run his offense with the talent we had on that roster. But, I still had so much hope that he'd lift Michigan out of the doldrums of offensive mediocrity, bland playcalling and risk aversion. So, I went looking for some other angry and passionate Michigan fans. I felt like Mgoblog gave me a fix... something to soothe my ache... so, I kept visiting. Eventually decided to put in my oar and as you can see by my point total... that occurs ever so rarely! This is the only site I check on a daily basis and since some days are slow, I find myself pouring through everyone's comments on OT stuff like this!

Seriously?

Novak played his ass off today! Agree with the play call comment though.

Seriously?

Novak played his ass off today!

Why not put the ball in Novak's hands at that point?

Don't get it???

Oops

Double post... oh no

What was Hardaway thinking?

That was awful!

Tie it up baby!!

I thought this one was long gone... why did we have to wait till now to start playing? Is Arkansas just tired?

Wow...

From down 20 to down 2... way to gut it out!

Lets make a run!

too little too late?

Go Blue!

The only thing more enjoyable than seeing Izzo have a fit on the court after than half court violation was Michigan beating State at their game!!! Give me some of that love! Go Blue!!

Our rivalry with MSU

During my years at Michigan I developed an understanding of the rivalry with MSU, with sentiments that have stayed with me in the subsequent 15 years... please tell me if I got it wrong...

As Michigan fans, we do believe there is a rivalry and like all rivalries, we care about it. Depending on who you talk to, it ranks as the 2nd or 3rd priority rivalry for us (mostly 3rd behind Ohio and ND). MSU fans hold this rivalry as their 1st priority. Since it is a lower priority rivalry with us, it gives Michigan fans the advantage of perspective and some degree of emotional separation (which we don't experience when it comes to Ohio). Recognizing this advantage, Michigan fans exploit it with hyperbole to MSU fans, claiming the rivalry doesn't matter or that we don't care (which is not fully true for most fans of Michigan... but certainly has some degree of truth to it as seen by comments from out of state posters). Like a big brother attempting to get under the skin of his little brother, we know the buttons to push and often get the reaction that reinforces our behavior... an emotional outburst. This is when MSU fans tend to "see red" and go on the attack with comments about Walmart Wolverines and pompous Michigan fans...etc. Like a big brother, satisfied with what we've done, we sit back and snicker proudly at the fact that the responses are silly, predictable and always good for cheering up a Michigan fan. In turn, the MSU fans' hate grows even more and the perspective that we are a bunch of arrogant jackwagons is only reinforced. Which leads back to the cycle of hyperbole/emotional outburst.

This has been my MO with MSU fans since my days at Michigan and I've seen this exact behavior in many a Michigan and MSU fan since that time. That said, the reason so much blood has boiled over Hart's "little brother" comment is because it is such a perfect metaphor for the rivalry. Unfortunately, it seems the past few years, little brother is all grown up and is exacting revenge by beating the crap out of big brother! But, big brother has started going back to the gym and all will be right again soon!

With regards to the sign... the rub seems to be that these students are not continuing the tradition, which is slightly annoying. However, they appear to be young in the ways of Michigan fandom and I for one welcome them to the ways of the Wolverine. They will learn in due time that there are expectations for how Michigan fans relate to MSU. They'll get it right. In the mean time, I admire the creativity and appreciate that these guys were having a good time in New Orleans (wishing I were there).

Is that about right? I welcome correction... certainly don't want to hang on to misunderstanding.

Visited South Bend with my family several years ago...

... we found a place to eat near the student dorms. We sat by and watched as the football players pulled up to the front of the dorms, got out of their cars, opened their trunks and had women (assume women athletes) unload their cars and lug their belongings to their dorm rooms! You can call me old school, but I just can't let go of the idea that the men (boys, in this case) ought to be lugging the womens' heavy stuff and not the other way around!

Since that visit, I could never watch a ND game or see a ND football player without thinking about how rediculous that looked!

I want...

... an uncle like your uncle! He sounds awesome!

Great diary

First of all... yer perty smart!

Second, this validates a lot of those "feelings" so many of us have... that the PAC10 looked scarier than they turned out to be and that Michigan was on the verge of having a really solid team, but just never seemed to make it happen (last few years at least) and that teams like Iowa somehow seem to perform solidly despite appearing to be fairly mediocre.

Thanks for the hard work!

Living in Cville for about 5 years now...

... and for the first time since I've been here there is energy behind both the team and the coaching staff here. Like UM, UVA has a lot of youth getting PT. If some of their players make the same leap Morris did last year, UM could be in trouble. We need to hope some of our young guys match their talent improvements! By no means is this game a gimme.

That's sick!

Okay... I have a hard enough time dribbling the ball with my left hand. Trey is dribbling two balls at the same time, while being forced back by a bungee cord! What? That's fantastic!

Was anyone else super impressed by the back to backs in the video... showing the move in practice with obstacles, then in a real game? How great was that?!!!

I can't wait to see him hit the floor with the rest of our Wolverines!

On pins and needles! Go Blue!

On pins and needles! Go Blue!

I say send the Freep writers

to Columbus. They'll get to the bottom of this real quick! Someone call Rosenberg and Snyder... they'll give us all sorts of scathing anonymous quotes from disgruntled former OSU players.

Don't understand

why people get so wound up about multiple posts on the same subject. I understand that it is not efficient and in an ideal world we have one place to go for every topic... but, c'mon! For real... don't click the link or read it if you are so bothered by it.

So Close!

Does anyone else feel like we're so stinking close to beating a top-tier team that we're due? If we beat State and beat Ill in the first round of the BTT, we really have a shot at finally breaking through against the Bucky's. How sweet would that be? To get our revenge from last year's Evan Turner prayer!! I can only hope that the NCAA selection committee sees us as a compelling upset possibility, given how close we've been all season!

Using B as my average or a

Using B as my average or a meh... because... well, because its my opinion and I can.

First rating is on campus alone. Second on surroundings (town/city and beyond).

UM - A-/A (lived there, attended)

UVA - A-/A (live there now). Campus is beautiful and historic. Landscaping is a discredit to the University. Charlottesville is amazing, including the natural beauty surrounding the town.

MSU - B+/C (lived there, attended). Beautiful landscaping. Architecture is unimpressive. E.Lansing... well, lets just say I'm glad I don't live there any longer!

ND - B+/C-

NW - B+/A (lived there). Evanston and access to Chicago are great!

UNC - A/B  Chapel Hill is a pretty neat place, just not much to it

Duke - A+/D  Durham = terrible; Campus is absolutely beautiful

IU - A/B

UI - B/B+

Purdue - B+/C-  Was surprised, after hearing about how horrible Purdue was for years, at how nice the campus is

VMI - B/B+  Lexington is a cool little town

USMA - A-/C-  West Point is an impressive place to visit

USAFA - B-/B  Architecture is meh, but the surroundings are beautiful. The Springs is urban spraul meh

UW - B-/A

NCA&T - B-/D

N.Ill - C+/C+

SIU - B/C

W&M - A-/B+

JMU - C+/B-

Loyola (downtown Chicago) - B+/A  Great location! Lots of fun to be had

Were you even in Evanston?

I lived in or near Evanston for 7 years. There is loads of stuff to do in Evanston... entertainment, fantastic food, natural beauty, shopping and great people. The fact that you can then just jump on the El or Metra and be downtown in minutes is gravy! You must have had a bad host or bad map while visiting.

Please... do go on

By the way this started, I wish I knew the rest. Its a bit OT, but what the hell... please don't leave me hanging too long!

Damn you all and your blasted logic...

... I prefer a board where logic and reason are secondary to angry rancorous emotional rants! After all, AA is just a few miles from the 100th Angriest city in the country! Can't we please have some consistency here?

Reel em in Hoke!

Predicting it will end soon enough

With all the uncertainty around the program lately and with even more uncertainty around tomorrow, I hope we're at the pinnicle of the crazy rumor mill. I have to believe things will settle down once the coaching staff settles down this Spring. Then... to the Big 10 Championship we sail!!!

But, I certainly understand the frustration... seems too many of us get caught up in the media frenzy/addiction of being first to post anything remotely interesting.

A friend of a friend's friend...

... told me he heard a rumor that TomVH is dropping his current commitment to Mgoblog and signing with Michigan. Another acquaintance's boss's wife reported on twitter that Scout and Rivals disagree, but that ESPN has the full scoop in an Insider article.

With all this activity, I'm worried about oversigning. Maybe Saban can give us some tips.

They didn't even shut down on this day...

http://www.michigandaily.com/content/when-ann-arbor-freezes-over

It was the second worst day of the year for me...my freshman year. Walking from Couzens to the Diag was horrid! I did, however, find a bit of fun in the midst of it all. Hanging out with a couple friends near a massive ice patch in front of Hill Auditorium, we got to enjoy watching dozens of people navigate the dangerous terrain. I never realized how many different ways people could find to slip and fall. And... I never realized how hilarious it was to observe!! (for the record, nobody was seriously injured... that I know of).

I still think the Hail Mary from Kordell Stewart to Michael Westbrook later that year was the worst day.

We bought the Fab Five...remember?

Since Belein is the Ethics-man, we're not doing that stuff anymore. Unlike many of the current-day perennial powerhouse programs. Next year's class seems pretty tight to me? But... I'm all in for Belein... so, I may be skewed.

Lets look at the record...

Been looking over some other resumes around the NCAA and here is what I see...

Coach 1:   Pos'n coach for BCS AQ conf* team - 5yrs; HC @ Div 1, non AQ BCS conf team - 14 yrs; HC BCS AQ conf team

Coach 2: Pos'n coach for BCS AQ conf team - 5yrs; HC @ Div 1, non AQ BCS conf team - 4yrs; HC BCS AQ conf team

Coach 3: Pos'n coach for BCS AQ conf team - 13 yrs; HC @ Div 1, non AQ BCS conf team - 7yrs; HC BCS AQ conf team

Coach 4: Asst coach for BCS AQ conf team - 7yrs; HC @ Div 1, non AQ conf team - 6yrs; HC BCS AQ conf team

*or equivalent

Which one is Hoke? Not a ton of variation.

Seems to me like he's taken all of the necessary career steps to be in the place he finds himself today. I understand this doesn't necessarily get at the level of performance at each stop. But, consider this... Sweater-vest (Coach #1) was 23-24 in his first 4 years at Youngstown St. I imagine if HC is like any other job in the world, when one is promoted into that role, there is a learning curve... takes a while to get one's feet planted and start producing results. Seems like that is what happened with Hoke (Coach #3) at Ball State.

Justsayin - we don't know what the result will be. He's got a solid pedigree and deserves a shot just as much as Tressel did, Urban Meyer (Coach #2) did and Bo (Coach #4) did.

Please... after a few days here of getting our frustration out... can we all try to support Hoke? After all, if many of you are right about his lack of ability, he's going to need it!

Been assuming this is just a lost year for recruiting

But, glad to see that there still may be some hope... just wish we had gotten more of those defensive recruits before the coaching debacle hit Ann Arbor!!

Thank you

I'm sick of people misquoting my work!
