14 weeks 3 days ago I remember a couple games in

I remember a couple games in '76 with Indiana that were pretty big. One in particular. But them I'm old.

15 weeks 1 day ago I was wondering how

I was wondering how significant the Wisky changes were going to be. Anyone know if kids on the OL are looking for an exit? Wondering if the Badgers will be keeping/integrating the pin & pull techniques their OL is specifically recruited for.

16 weeks 11 hours ago OSU averaged just 62

OSU averaged just 62 offensive snaps those last 7 games with just 110 attempted passes over that time. You're not going to get big yardage totals like that. The quality is more important then the quantity. 7.38 YPA with a true frosh QB is pretty good.

And you try doing your job with the nation's sports media hovering like vultures over the program. And Urban Meyer too. Good luck with that.

16 weeks 13 hours ago Roushar is so forgettable....

... that I couldn't remember 2011. My bad.

No, I'd say Bollman had it tougher than Roushar. The national spotlight was on Columbus and plenty of bad stories leaked out during the season. Roushar was the beneficiary of much better circumstances in EL. He had a boss whose job was safe and who can coach a bit himself. Bollman had Luke Fickell, exhibit 1 for the Peter Principle.

The first starting QB was Joe Bauserman. Bauserman was really, really bad. Bollman had the unenviable task of deciding which QB to play; the limited vet who at least knew the playbook, or the raw but physically gifted true freshman Miller. Handing the job early to Miller would have been a signal to everyone that the new staff was willing to maybe forego a win or two now in order to get more experience for the future. Bauserman had to be allowed to fail first. And fail he did, getting just 5.72 YPA on sub-50% completions.

Bollman did a very decent job with Miller. In 2011 Miller notched 7.38 YPA and a 138 QB rating. In 2012 under the auspices of certified offensive genius Urban Meyer the sophomore had 8.03 YPA and a 140 QB rating. Improvement right in line for a freshman to soph transition. If Bollman was bad and Meyer really good we should have seen a much bigger improvement. Don't forget too that Miller injured his ankle against Nebraska in 2011 and was not 100% for awhile.

I'm not going to claim that Bollman is a certified offensive genius. But he *is* an upgrade over Roushar.

16 weeks 14 hours ago I'm going to play the devil's advocate here

Bollman is an upgrade over Roushar.

The hand Bollman was dealt in 2011 was pretty tough. The cloud Tressel left the program under didn't help and everybody in Columbus knew the staff was gone. Including the players. The starting QB was dreadful. He should have been pulled for Braxton Miller much earlier that season. Still, Miller was very, very raw. And the advance gameplanning Bollman executed for Michigan was outstanding. You guys forget that game went down to the wire and Miller was explosive. Bollman did a really nice job of prep with the kid.

I know I'd take Bollman over Roushar any day. Roushar was arguably the worst OC in the B10. Greg Davis was terrible at Iowa but at least he had a lot of injuries - peace be upon AIRBHG - as an excuse. Gus Malzahn or Chad Morris couldn't have turned MSU's offense into a juggernaut LY. But they still have too much talent to look like they did. Bollman for Roushar is a good trade for Sparty.

Look at this from another angle. Tressel allowed Bollman to be his OC for 10 seasons. Dantonio canned Roushar after 1 season. No way this is a downgrade.

16 weeks 6 days ago Umm.... no. My yards per play

Umm.... no. My yards per play model had OSU's O ranked well above #70 during the Tressel years and I'm sure Mathlete would agree. You might be thinking of gross stats. Which are, well, just gross.

16 weeks 6 days ago I don't know if he ever did this but......

.... I can easily picture Rick Mahorn pulling some guy's arm into his privates to draw a foul. And if Mahorn could do it so could Zeller.

17 weeks 4 hours ago My wife worked in furniture for a number of years.....

The the frosh numbers were a lie. Go back and look at the tape. There is no comparison.

17 weeks 4 days ago Watching Becker, Paris and

Watching Becker, Paris and Muransky blow holes in the Husky line you could drive a tank through.

Ty Wheatley rumbling for 235 yards on just 15 carries against those same Huskies. Man that guy must have ingested a whole drum full of steroids. His freshman season he looked like a stiff wind would blow him over. The next season he was built like a freight train with legs.

19 weeks 5 days ago If a Super Bowl-winning QB

If a Super Bowl-winning QB can't rape anyone he wants the terrorists have won.

19 weeks 6 days ago There is more than one way

"When he's crushing people's heads like he did at Minnesota he's an All-American; when he's not he's still a major asset."

And that's because when he's not crushing heads he is pinching faces.

20 weeks 6 days ago I agree. The kid is a freak

I agree. The kid is a freak but he's not the next Clowney. He doesn't tackle so much as wrap up.

But he does have the makings of a superlative receiver.

I'm not sure you'd call InfoWars libertarian. But then I rarely see the place.

22 weeks 4 days ago Tsk tsk

Come now, you sell yourself short. I do see you have a comedy blog there.

22 weeks 4 days ago Flying Monkey roll call

Definitely reason.com/blog is awesome. I'd add the Corner to that.

22 weeks 4 days ago If its good enough for Chris Ault......

Don't know why anyone hasn't mentioned pulling Lewan by himself to his *left*. Line up a TE next to him, have the TE downblock and pull Lewan into space. Nevada runs - or did run it anyway - this from the Pistol to great effect.

22 weeks 4 days ago Ugh. Its not the

Ugh. Its not the "undisciplined" DT play that makes that trap work so well against the Lions. When you're running Wide 9 all kinds of traps open up.

Which they are willing to give up because the pass rush trade off is supposed to make it worthwhile. Pass D is a heckuva lot more important then rush D in the NFL.

22 weeks 6 days ago Kelly already has the most

Kelly already has the most important assistant of all: Chuck Martin. The guy can coach. I'd dump Diaco and give Martin the entire defense.

22 weeks 6 days ago Truth is

Kelly is pretty darned good at handling the wider support communities involved with the program. Its something he took seriously each step of the way.

GVSU was pretty easy and Mt Pleasant did require a little more of his time. The jump at Cinci was huge and the AD there made sure Kelly knew it was an important part of the job. BK stepped up and did by all accounts a marvelous job on the banquet circuit.

In fact that success contributed to an amusing level of griping when he left for South Bend. As though Cinci boosters could somehow begrudge him that job. BK's sales job convinced them he really wanted to stay for the long haul.

22 weeks 6 days ago Its not that Chizik was

Its not that Chizik was unimportant to their success, its that he vigorously ran off the guy primarily responsible for their success - Malzahn - and hired a guy to replace him with a philosophy so different that it essentially guaranteed at least a season of failure.

22 weeks 6 days ago Sheesh

Yes, he's quite the tool for wanting to move on from GVSU (lower division), CMU (AD didn't like him), Cincinnati (always 2nd fiddle).

23 weeks 3 hours ago Or Hellen Keller

I would have gone maybe with Stevie Wonder, but that will do.

23 weeks 1 day ago Not quite

Except that Nik is better then Cheryl Miller. Or his own sister.
