the just released schedules were a flat-out statement that the B10 doesn't believe SOS will matter in playoff selection

That's because Chi-town fans will give up quicker than anyone. Ask Brown Bear. |

Those hockey players? Known only by your fan base over the age of 50. You haven't sold out your hockey arena until recently. Post-Jordan bulls are an afterthought. Nobody goes to Cubs games to watch baseball. Nobody GOES to White Sox games. The Bears get support in spite of themselves and that deformed spaceship of a stadium. So you got me there. Chin-up! You could still win this game. But, gosh, it'll sure suck to lose this series after you all but gave yourselves the Cup a couple months ago. |
| 1 day 6 hours ago | I have to remind myself that |
I have to remind myself that the Blackhawks are an Original 6 team. They easily lack the tradition teams like the Wings and the Habs. And wasn't it just a few years ago that their owner refused to show home games on TV? |
| 1 day 6 hours ago | Why? You really think anyone |
Why? You really think anyone gives a shit about the Blackhawks in Chicago? They're relevant now, but Chicago is a front-running sports town. |
| 1 day 7 hours ago | The Chicago Blackhawks have |
The Chicago Blackhawks have to be the least appreciated and recognized teams in the Original Six. But then, I have always wondered if Chicago was a bit overrated as a sports city in terms of fan passion. |

Thinking the same. Similar to Brian Kelly's career arc. Unfortunately, Enos earned another year at Central by beating Iowa. |

I moved from Grand Rapids to Pittsboro, NC (just south of Chapel Hill, west of Raleigh) recently. The local shows on 99.9 aren't bad (following Mike and Mike and Cowherd). I love it here - in case anyone cares. |

That show has turned me into a regular listener of NPR/Marketplace. And I crave mindless sports talk during drive times. |

| 3 weeks 4 days ago | I recall plenty of drunk |
I recall plenty of drunk sorority girls from '87-'90. In fact, very pleasant memories. Ahem. Anyway... I wonder if some of the empty seats issue can be traced to the current requirement that nonstudents must validate student tix. Seemed like it was easier to unload the games you couldn't or wouldn't go to when the potential buyer wasn't faced with a hefty surcharge. As a result, more folks were able to buy and use student section tix. |
| 3 weeks 4 days ago | Not really. Players change, |
Not really. Players change, etc, but the uniform is a constant element of fandom. If you have good memories of your team wearing a particular uniform, you're probably more likely to want to keep that uniform. In this case, nobody gives a shit about the Jags, so any change is welcome. The Dolphins have a past tradition of winning in a uniform that didn't change too much over the years, therefore folks might be reluctant to see changes to their gear. |

This speech reminds me of the 30 for 30 "Four Days in October" about the 2004 ALCS against the MFY. There was a bit of recorded conversation between Papi and a reporter before game 4 with the Sox down 3 games to 0, where Papi says "Man, you ride or you die. You ride or you die." |

Good post. I felt no malice toward any of the fanbases we played over the past few weeks. But my living room is relatively isolated from opposing fans. |
| 5 weeks 4 days ago | I have the unscientific |
I have the unscientific impression that we were the people's champion this year for a couple reasons: 1) our team was entertaining due to its offesively-oriented play, 2) we had recognizable names - the POY, McGary, NBA legacies, 3) the "M" brand is recognizable to average fans, and 4) most pundits seemed to agree yesterday that we were the victim of unskilled officiating. Unfortunately for Louisville, the viewing public appeared to tire of the Kevin Ware story and I don't feel a lot of love - respect, maybe - for Rick Pitino or any of their anonymous players. On the other hand, I'm expecting a new anti-Fab 5 backlash any moment now. If it hasn't already occured. |

How upset were Bilas and Gottleib in their post-game comments? I don't get the impression that either of them dig Michigan too much. |

Build Me Up, Buttercup. But you need to wait until a critical point in the game before you play it. |

| 6 weeks 2 days ago | I've never watched a replay |
I've never watched a replay of this game. Too painful. By accident, I have seen replays of the time-out sequence and wondered: 1) Why didn't Jalen rip the ball out of Webbers hands? IIRC, when Webber gains possession, Jalen is in position to receive an outlet pass. He's facing Webber and clapping his hands. 2) Traveling. Yep. 3) Webber was scared shitless and completely overwhelmed by the moment. Why else would he listen to a single (reportedly) bench player yelling "TIME OUT"? At the time, I recall thinking: 1) The game is physical. UNC rotated some big men (Montross, Salvadori, some other goon) that made things troublesome inside. 2) Donald Williams should really start missing some shots soon. Right? 3) Webber and maybe Jalen are going pro after they win this game. 4) UM didn't finish UNC when the had the chance with, I think, 3 or 4 minutes to go. Ah, well. It happened. Hopefully this group makes us forget that game a little. |
| 7 weeks 3 days ago | Oftentimes, games present |
Oftentimes, games present higher-levarage situations in the 7th or 8th innings. In these cases, teams will often employ a "relief ace" to get a couple critical outs. There was a Bill James study a few years ago which eschewed the ideas of specialized 9th-inning closers entirely. |

Question for our Moderators: Is it possible to delete the OT Anti-Jim Rome comments in threads? Not to be censoriffic, but I understand and appreciate that some folks don't dig the Jim Rome Show. It's just that the OP dealt with an interview with one of our players who just happended to be appearing on a nationally-syndicated show (abeit, one that is hosted by a polarizing personality). |
