"He makes it really easy on you as a coach because he has tremendous football instincts," Michigan tight ends coach Jay Harbaugh said. "Things come really naturally to him. He doesn't have to see things too many times. He has a good sense for how things should look and feel, and he's a tough, physical guy."

.....must I do this again?? I'm not gonna go into this argument again. A GOOD coach utlitizes and adapts his system around the players he has. Plain and simple. Blah Blah Blah, "his guys....his guys....his guys".....I'm sorry but even if I ran a spread-option read....and I knew I had potentially one of the best pocket passers in the nation in my program (Mallett)....I would completely adjust to him....instead of forcing out Mallett and instead having Steven Threet, with his 7.6 60-yard dash time running a zone read option attack....I laugh at all of you who don't see realize this simple fact.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||so I guess...||
...when Cameron Gordon lines up improperly during the Gator Bowl...he signifies he's giving up on RR?......We had THREE timeouts....and I watched Gordon raise his hands for a good 10 seconds signaling he had NO IDEA where to be lined up....and not one coach called a timeout.....come on man....stop defending something that was a mess and completely unorganized. Don't you remember the argument in 08 on the sidelines against Ohio State? RR was afraid to step in the middle of it......he completely lost control and the respect of his players.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||there were...||
....better recruits in Carr/RR's combined recruiting class then either of RR's 2 recruiting classes so your argument doesn't make sense. Athletes are athletes. Speed is speed. Talent is talent. Any good coach utilizes talent. Don't say that they're not "his guys"......in doing so, you're vastly over-complicating the game.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||I'll agree with that....||
...statement...but it's the job of the Head Coach to know his weaknesses. Knowing full well that your offense was going to struggle with those current players in his systeem and put our defense in tough situations, then don't have Steven Threet running an option read.....it's common sense people. You have a QB who runs 7.5 60-yard dash but YET, we still having him run the ball......ummmmm am I taking crazy pills here? Seriously? Are you really going to defend this argument? A kid who runs a 7.6 60 and you think that by putting him in a zone option read offense is going to make the best of his abilitiy......really? REALLY?
|4 years 37 weeks ago||hahaha....||
....that's funny considering I played four sports in high school, two in college and now am a successful Division II Head Coach. Okay, allow me to school you on a few things....a Head Coach is RESPONSIBLE for the entire program not just one or two aspects..I took over a struggling program and instead of pushing all the current players away, I embraced them (kind of like BH is currently doing)..... If RR came in and used his head....he would have seen that he had a fairly decent defense with a decent offense, albiet not an offense suited for his system. If he knew his type of offense was going to struggle and not run his type of offense correctly, then being the Head Coach, he should have considered all of this. Instead he was selfish and arrogant and forced things on a group of players who were not going to succeed which, like you said, put considerable pressure on our defense. You can say what you want about the 2008 defense, but 61st is still 61st. You can't fake stats. It is our jobs as Head Coaches to put our players in the bsst position to utilize their talents and to be consistent and successful.....RR failed at doing this.
I'll say it again....when there's smoke there's fire. It's alittle odd that all those players, both offensively and defensively, left the program knowing full well that many of them had a chance to start right away.... and it speaks volumes to me when the Athletic Director comes out and says his conversations with current players helped him out iimmensely his decision to make a change.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||We returned...||
....7 starters and numerous players in 2008, many of whom played a vital role on our defense in 2006 and 2007 and we finished 61st in the nation in total defense. I'm tired of hearing people making excuses. I wanted RR to succeed just like everyone else but watching this team argue all the time with one another or line up incorrectly or not have 11 guys on the field is upsurd. Accountability goes to the HC. Period.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||Blah Blah Blah...||
...we act as if no other team in the nation has freshmen in important positions. He had 3 recruiting classes under his belt and had a boat-load of talent returning in 2008, but he pushed certain people who didn't fit his system away. Maybe if he didn't alienate and treat players like poop, we would have seen better results. I'm tired of hearing these excuses. Moving on.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||he was a 5-star||
....coming out of high school but apparently he wasn't good enough for play for our "sort of" defense.....i'm sure BH knows what he's doing by putting him back on D. WC, MM, RVB, CR and JB could form a much better line next year.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||Whoa whoa whoa....||
....it's OUR lack of acceptance of RR that led to this??? It had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the program suffered it's worst 3 years in the history of the program or anything. You people need to stop deflecting blame of all of those who were directly involved with the floundering of the program after coming off of 11-2 and 9-4 seasons. You people need to wake up and stop being naive about how bad we had gotten and who was directly to blame. I said it once and I will say it again.....NO ONE came to RR's defense while he was in hot-water.....he was a good guy but not what we needed at this program. Move on with this argument.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||Michael Shaw....||
....actually quite suprised he didn't play more, particularily in the bowl game, or kind of game but really only a game for the first quarter.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||because...||
...Ole Miss had a good year or anything....
|4 years 37 weeks ago||you are correct...||
...in saying that it's 5 years to play 4 however, for D-1 purposes, your "clock" is continuously ticking. He's been enrolled full-time for 4 semesters at UM...if he goes to a juco for 3 semesters, he would only have 3 semeters left but he probably will only have 1 year left to play unless he appeals the NCAA for an extension.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||.....||
...you're missing the point. I'm going years back before their hires at upper echelon schools. Before he was at Utah...Urban was at Bowling Green. Pete Carroll was considered a laughable hire at USC after awful stints in the NFL. Jim Tressel wasn't even initially considered to replace Cooper at OSU. And come on, Chizik was a nationaly cailber DC...how many coaches can we say the same thing for? He went 6-19 at ISU. I work in college athletics and I will always say that coaches who perform miracles at crappy schools which lend no support are more suitable coaches to create jaggernauts at schools that "get it" and fully support athletics.
I have a much greater appreciation for what BH did at Ball State than what JH did at Stanford. Both are worthy turnarounds but Ball State doesn't support athletics anywhere near like Stanford does.
I wanted JH and LM more than anyone else but the more I thought about it....the more this leads me to believe that we can quickly turn this around and become a major player again. Jump on board.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||I have a few names to throw at you....||
....Urban Meyer, Gene Chizik, Jim Tressel, Pete Carroll to name a few. None of these guys had anything going for them except passion, work ethic and a belief. I wasn't sold on him either but the more and more I think about it.....I realize that this guy has passion and motivates his players.......something we haven't seen out of our teams since we carried LC off the field.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||Incorrect...||
...MSC was directly involved with the previous search, which in my opinion, was an awful hire from the start. That puts her on the playing field.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||The same RR....||
....who told us loyal Michigan fans to "get a life"?
|4 years 37 weeks ago||actually....||
....I think statistically we might be able to prove that statement wrong....just saying.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||The Pats...||
....run a vertical spread. Has anyone given any thought that maybe Denard doesn't want to run the ball 30 times and take shots all day long so he suffers more and more injuries. Just saying. RR didn't adapt to our personnel....I have a strong feeling that BH will.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||in 2006...||
...with the exception of OSU....which team gave us the most trouble that year? Some will say Penn State but the Lions only put up 10 points against us. Ball State put up 26 and almost beat us. I remember because my nails were chewed off by the 3rd Q....give the guy a chance. His teams played inspired...something we haven't seen in three years now.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||AMEN....||
...to that. I thought I was taking crazy pills and was the only one who kept seeing that nonsense unfold.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||I know of a 5 star....||
....recruit who was never given a shot in 2 years......his name is Will Campbell......seriously? A 5-star kid isn't good enough to play for this defense???....I trust BH will do a much better job of inspiring and motivating his talent because there is definitely talent here....much better than what they've shown.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||Amen to that...||
...positive energy is something we haven't had in 3 years.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||and what does...||
...factions in the UM department have to do with preparing for a game or making adjustments at half-time or formulating a defense etc etc etc? One thing has absolutely nothing to do with the other. You can't say that UM getting smacked around by the big boys of the B10 has anything to do with LC didn't put a stamp of approval on the new hire.
|4 years 37 weeks ago||You saying RR will win a NC....||
...doesn't tickle me at all. Why will he win a NC? What scientific and undeniable facts do you have that lead you to overwhelming conclusion that he will win a NC? Will he go to a school like South Florida and win a Big East Championship then somehow pull out a miracle against an SEC school to secure a 13-0 season? I really want to hear this....
|4 years 37 weeks ago||loyal to their coach?||
....the overwhelming consensus was that everyone thought RR was a good guy but an average coach who couldn't inspire his players or put any faith into them doing their job with consistency and success. It doesn't take a genius to see that these kids are ECSTATIC that RR is gone. Not one player came to his defense and if you recall, DB even stated that speaking with current players immensely helped him in his decision to let go of RR.
|4 years 38 weeks ago||anyone who would prefer RR...||
....over LM is out of your mind. LSU is consistently one of the best teams in the SEC....you know....the conference that dominates everyone year in and year out. Doesn't anyone find it odd that after RR was terminated.....the majority of the players were sad that he was gone but no one seemed to put up a fight that he was removed as HC? The overwhelming sense I get is that RR was a terrific guy but not a good HC. Even DB said the conversations he had with current players helped him out immensely in his decision.
I would be extremely excited and content getting someone like LM to take over UM. LSU has been one of the upper echelon teams each year since he has taken over. Added bonus is he has worked with a spread offense. Anyone who wouldn't want him on our sidelines is nuts.
|4 years 38 weeks ago||Color me confused....||
.....but why do people think that DB has turned this hire into a circus? He's doing the exact opposite of what BM and MSC didn't do...they blew up other coachs' spots before they participlated in a bowl so they were forced to reneg on saying they were interested in the job. DB is not rushing, he is playing everything close to the vest so that people don't get their biz laid out on the street for everyone to criticize. If anyone has turned this into a circus, it's the media....blame them for putting mics in people's faces including 18-22 year old kids on their way to class.
