Fellow Michigan media elites…

Fellow Michigan media elites, remember your secret handshake and secret Latin password will be required to attend the Michigan Shadow Media meeting tonight. This week's agenda: how to keep MSU out of the football playoffs again. Oh, and please bring your own soy lattes. We will only be providing oat milk lattes at the meetings from now on.

So, for the longest time I…

So, for the longest time I thought David's last name was Pasternack because that's the name of a company that sells RF electronics that I buy stuff from for work.

NastyIsland makes a lot more sense now.

I said it at the start of…

I said it at the start of the season and I'll say it again here : "College football is dead. Long live college football. "  For all of its problems that make you want to quit watching, moments like last Saturday are why I love this sport.

Chicago cocktail?...with no Malort!?!

Seriously though, I'll have to try this one mbrummer.

Ok, the saying is finally…

Ok, the saying is finally true. I'm buying it this time. "Blake Corum is Mike Hart but fast."

THIS is what has totally…

THIS is what has totally freed me. I'm more of a football fan now instead of just a Michigan fan. Sure, I'll still watch every Michigan game, but my weekend isn't made or broken only by the Michigan game outcome. Last night, for example, I really enjoyed watching the Boise-UCF game. I couldn't have cared less who won it, but it was enjoyable to watch. Neither of these teams are going to make it to the playoff, but they were still playing some good football. Heck, even the Minn OSU game was pretty good. Wish OSU lost, but it was still a good showing from Minn, given the talent gap between the two teams.
Also, watch the games with a tape delay and fast foreword through the commercials. 100% better! I can't commit four hours or more to one game and skipping the commercials easily cuts out an hour.

BiSB you are killing it with…

BiSB you are killing it with these opponent watches this year. Best stuff I've read on this site in awhile.

This is already turning into…

This is already turning into a sickos game.

Really enjoying Nebraska…

Really enjoying Nebraska football these days . Their decision to become a comedy routine was a really good move.

I'm hoping it is a sprain…

I'm hoping it is a sprain and not a break. I did that once before (landing on the side of my foot) and it ended up being a nasty sprain. Took me a good week to get back to walking correctly. As for getting back to playing competitive basketball...that could take a bit longer. Although, I didn't have world class trainers helping me recover. I walked on that damn thing for that week. Ouch!  And no, before you ask, I didn't do it playing basketball. I was doing something much less athletic ... hackysack.

Good luck to Carl Grapentine…

Good luck to Carl Grapentine. He is going to have to pronounce "Ikechukwu Iwunnah" over the PA. Hoping he will have lots of practice saying "tackle by Ikechukwu Iwunnah" over the next few years.

Seth, this just adds to the…

Seth, this just adds to the Fullcast's stereotype of Michigan fans as military history nerds.

One thing that really stands…

One thing that really stands out to me between college teams and NHL teams is their passing. College teams often have poor passing that either is off the mark (totally misses the target) or the target player miss-handles the puck and it bounces off their stick destroying their momentum. I noticed that this team passes really well and doesn't miss-handle the puck on their stick. Also, it was nice to see the opponent resort to "dump and chase" instead of Michigan. I remember some of those late Red teams couldn't move the puck up the ice at all.

Take the Field

I've got Take the Field Vol. 2 on VHS somewhere around here. Another classic. Vid-staff just gave it to me when I bought something newer (but less awesome.) on DVD from them. They just wanted to get rid of their pile of old VHS tapes and gave away a copy with every purchase. Unfortunately, they did not have any TTF Vol. 1 copies left. The Back to Future Show from 1985 is on vol 2 though. Can't top that.

Don==Craig

So, I'm convinced now that Don in Ann Arbor is actually just Craig Ross playing a pre-recorded call of himself on the phone.

Post game plans

Minnesota

Looking to pick up a couple tickets for the Minnesota game. First time ever in "The Bank." Any advice on sections that had a good view/bad view?

Also, I'm seeing $60~70 for most of the tickets on StubHub. Tiqiq confirms that as well. Anyone else seeing different? Looks like a lot of tickets still for sale from the box office too. Might wait this one out a bit.

Beer

From the pictures, I'm guessing the "Dark Ale Style Beer" is acutally Guinness.

Brandon Showed a lack of grasping basic Economics

Yeah, I think the quote from the book was something along the line of 'Brandon would make the ticket prices so high that they would be too valuble to not use." I remember reading that and thinking "WTF" that doesn't make any sense! Make the ticket prices too high and NO ONE WILL BUY THEM. Couple that with eroding the value of season tickets by endorsing the secondary market (StubHub) and you have straight up wacko thinking on Brandon's part.

Fullcast

I'm still waiting for the Mgoblog version of Shutdown Fullback.

Funny you mention that.

Funny you mention that. Bourdain did an episode on Detroit, and LeDuff hung out with him for half the episode. You are correct about leaving the food out. They went to some hipster pop-up restaurant in Corktown and LeDuff just did not seem to be enjoying the cusine moderne.

Woah, Brian just committed murder with words

Brian takes no prisoners! I've been waiting for this post like it was Half Life 2 ep. 3. Brian kept mentioning that he was writing a scathing opus since Brandon was sacked. I just hope we can get the genie that is all of Brandon’s wrong doing, back in the bottle.

The Michigan Song Book

If you ever run across it (I found it once in the sheet music section of Encore) there is a thick, blue, printed "Michigan Songbook" that has all the classics in it (including those you didn't even know existed! ) Some of them are melancholy, longing for lost "college days" while the vast majority of them are funny drinking songs, such as Bum Army which fight for  “For all the boze we ever see” *

Also, most of the Songbook came from operas that were put on in the early 20th century to raise money to build the Michigan Union. What is really amazing is that these operas were put on at a regular basis (every year maybe?) and were completely written by Michigan students and faculty. I can't imagine the amount of work it would take to write an opera (well, it sounded like they were closer to musicals than operas) but I have a feeling that it would be difficult to put on an original, student written production today.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is this: first this kid needs to write an opera, it has to be wildly successful, and then we can start talking about incorporating new Michigan songs.

Lastly, everyone should go check out the Glee Club’s concert later this spring, where you can hear all these classic, songs of Michigan, live. You might even learn all the lyrics to The Victors in the process.

Most of the Songbook’s lyrics:

*I’ll give someone $10 if they can get everyone at an Ann Arbor watering hole singing Bum Army! (Cottage Inn on Thursdays excluded)

Yeah, people look at me funny when I sing all the Yeah, people look at me funny when I sing all the lyrics to The Victors during football games. I just tell them "you should learn the words to your own fight song! it is more than just hails and fist pumps"
traying Ah, yes. Traying. If I remember correctly, the best dorm to steal trays from was MoJo. I actually still have a few of those trays for those snowy days when I feel nostalgic.
MUPPETS!!!

MUPPETS!!!!  It is now official.

Yay...

And there was much rejoicing!

This was the most B1G game EVER!

Most Big Ten game ever Most Big Ten game ever
Computers

Appears to be written by only using the "suggested" words that pop up on your phone when you are texting. For example, my phone always suggests "Brandon" or "Hoke" whenever I type the word "fire." Just let computers write for you.

Not too bad

I got to be honest, I was expecting the statue to be horrible. Most modern statues are, and statues of sport figures are the worst of the worst. For example, take a look at the Joe Pa statue (or ex-statue I should say.)  There is WAY too much going on in that one (arm in the air, he is running at you, or away from something.) Then there is the Nick Saban one, which...wow. Kinda looks like he is clapping at a golf match. But, most importantly, Bo is not smiling. Smiling statues creep the crap out of me.

HENRI

I had a feeling Henri would make an appearance this week.

You always start counting from zero You always start counting from zero. So hept would give you 17 numbers...the only question would be "who is number zero?"
The game is OVER!

Wow, 35% at 11:30pm on the first day;
I'm expecting this to be completely funded when I wake up in the morning.

Final four I've got an all big ten final four. Michigan, MSU, OSU, and IU. I got IU beating us again. If we couldn't beat them twice this year I can't see us doing it in the tourney.
Hex Well Brian, I've always been a fan of 0x000033 Woot, double post!

Teddy V getting 'fresh'

How about when he slapped GR3 on the butt for some reason, like he was a teammate? What the hell was that all about? Can we get a GIF?

Bad camera work

I didn't realize that Stauskas was hurt that badly because CBS NEVER SHOWED WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED! They kept talking about a block from behind on the other side of the court. Next time you see Stauskas, he is on the sitting on the bench with a bandaid on.

The colors have been changing...

Yeah, the "official" colors of the university are much lighter than we think they are. More of a baby blue and faded yellow. Those have been around for about 100 years. The dark navy and deep maize colors that we are used to are from the athletic department.

There was a really interesting article on this wayyy back in '96:

Block M

So this is verboten?
I have a feeling that the band is not going to change.

No-Look

I'm lovin' that no-look pass from McGary to GRIII. So sweet. Also, I wouldn't say "he's back" after one game against the GopherQuest-Basketball Edition contenders. I need to see more proof first. The jury's out, and I'm staying skeptical.

Deja vu

Wait a second, didn't the crew team do Lion King a few years ago? Same costumes and everything?

Chaos

If I remember correctly, General Chaos was a really soild game. Go with the commandos everytime!

Gus

Everytime I watch that, I'm waiting for Johnson to say "HE'S ON FIRE!"

Sports media and Bacon's class

I'm sure that one could relate this back to American Exceptionalism, Max Weber and Sports Space! In fact, I bet there is an essay there current Bacon students.

Norte Dame girls

So let me wrap my mind around this: Teo, a football star at a football crazy school, who could date any woman on ND's campus, instead prefers to "date" a women in California that he has never met in person. Say Whaaat?

What does that say about
Norte Dame girls?
