|3 days 18 hours ago||No, not really||
Cornell Ag is basically the public U, Land Grant portion of the school. It's basically the MSU of New York, but they connected it to a private university rather than being their own entity. Michigan engineering is part of the university as a whole, all public U.
|3 days 18 hours ago||I went to Michigan for undergrad and Rice for grad school||
Yes, it's not ND or NW, and yes, that means I'm not answering your question, I suppose. Rice is similar to both the schools you mentioned and I can attest that the undergraduates there are playing in an entirely different league than at Michigan. I transfered to M from a few different schools, the last being Sparty. I'd say that the jump from Sparty to M is about the same as the jump from M to the next tier. The better students at Michigan are the average or so at Rice (and I assume NW or ND).
If you're really smart, going to Michigan versus NW, ND, Rice, etc, doesn't really matter. But, if you're barely getting in, then you should choose the better school. Of course, the game changer is always financial aid. Moreover, Michigan is still the best instate bargain outside of maybe Cal or UVA in the country. If you live in any of those states you're a fool to go anywhere else that isn't making the cost even.

Iman Marshall would be more difficult to land if Oregon and blasted OSU and made the Pac 12 look dominant over the Big 10.

and Greek life will stop being bashed. The problem is that this kind of stuff happens on a fairly regular basis and every single time we get spokemen saying "well it's not representative of the fraternity system." When you get incidents like this (and worse) happening every few years on some campus it becomes pretty darn representative.

They've won 10 games two years in a row, have a youngish coach with NFL experience, and we're in the top 10 for much of the year. They also play in the most famous football stadium, have beautiful girls walking around, and have awesome weather. The Pac 12 was probably the best conference in the country this year.

Old fashioned *is* cheating. Hell, Wooden is viewed as this paragon of coaching and he was blatantly cheating. Hall of fame baseball players through spitters. Goalies have had slightly bigger pads, etc. The Colts defense undoubtedly picked up the ball at some point. As long as it's part of the game (equipment, etc) that the opponent can detect and not performance enhancing drugs that can't be detected, that's part of sports.

Doesn't surprise me at all if they did. The Pats will go to any length to win. What's the worst thing that can happen? They lose a draft pick? Get fined? Both are worth an advantage to go to the Super Bowl.

Rich and Oregon's spread relies on 3rd and 4th wideouts making important catches in pivotal moments. Urban relies on his number 1 runningback running and catching.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||TCU didn't win it's conference outright||
And didn't have the strongest claim to winning its conference. If there's a team to complain it's Baylor. TCU won one less game than OSU before the playoff. That one game was against a good WIsconsin team. It mattered.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||What is controversial about that?||
They went 12-1 and finished exactly where they should have finished: third. TCU didn't win their conference (yes, they tied, but not really, Baylor had the bigger beef) and that's why they weren't in. I'm sure the NIT champ finishes ahead of at large tournament teams too. There is no one outside of Texas who think TCU should be considered as a champion with OSU.

It beat the living hell out of you when you had the best player ever to be at your program.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||I have a pretty good idea what Rich's offense looks like||
As he did coach at a place before coming to Michigan and coaches at a place after. As I implied, I think Rich Rod is one of the best coaches in the country. I also think that Rich Rod would have had his Mariota had we given him another year. My point is that for Rich Rod or Oregon to win a title they will need to have that special player to take them across the finish line, which Mariota couldn't do. As we saw tonight, Urban doesn't need that and that's the difference between being a great coach and being a really good one.
By the way, you highlight one of the major problems with the Rich Rod/Oregon style spread. It relies on 3rd and 4th spot wide outs not dropping passes in critical moments whereas the Urban spread just pounds away with different counters and read or short, easy QB pass options for the most part.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||It's definitely not good for Michigan||
But, it's also not the disaster that a lot of people fear and the reason for that is easy: Harbaugh. He has the clout to go to recruits and say, "I'm here to kill the king, join me" and be believable. I think that with any other coach it would be a disaster. With Harbaugh, it might help with California recruiting (slightly). "Come play for me and beat the champs on national television."
|2 weeks 5 days ago||It's all about the type of spread||
Oregon's spread is much closer to Rich Rod than Urban's is (and I'm a big Rich Rod supporter). The genius of Urban is that he has the best of both worlds and runs heavy, or at least heavier, sets within the spread. The problem with the Oregon or Rich Rod spread is that it seems to always have a game or two where it sputters and you start spinning your wheels because of the obession with tempo. As we saw tonight, controlling the pace is really important.
It also doesn't help to be completely outmatched in coaching, which Oregon clearly was tonight. They were a debacle on defense tonight and their DC (or Helfrich) had no answer. Elite coach versus a coach who got handed the keys to a Ferrari but isn't quite sure how to drive it. It's going to be interesting to see what Helfrich can do without Mariota. Also, I'm pretty sure Denard would have been Rich Rod's Mariota had he been given one more year. Oh well, we might have one of the few coaches that can compete with Urban.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||I'd not worried about it||
There's a reason why Harbaugh kept referencing to him maturing and growing in his press conference. This thread probably should get deleted though.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Those are almost always listed as OT||
And they are not masquerading as a Hello Post during the last month of recruiting. There's also an obvious inclusiveness in the drinking on Friday night threads that encourages conversation. This post doesn't have that as it is, for all intent and purpose, a birth anouncement.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||I think it's great that you've had a baby||
But, why are you posting this on a Michigan sports website to make it look like a recruit and not without an OT? Do you really need hundreds of people you've never met to give you courtesy congratulations?
I have no doubt that your new son is the most important thing to have happened to you and that you want to share him with the whole world by putting him all over the Internet, but I really hate to break it to you, most of us are ambivalent, at best, that a Michigan fan has had a child. So, again, I give you the congratualtions you're seeking, but also really need to question why this is here in the first place.

There's this idea that Hoke was an outstanding recruiter and it's just not true. Hoke's recruiting, while good, was not great. He never outrecruited OSU, even when they went 6-6 and we went to the Sugar Bowl. He also didn't compete well with ND.
