Commenting as an OSU fan,…

Commenting as an OSU fan, but I think the answer to the "root for your conference?" question depends on what one wants.

If the goal is simply to get into the playoffs, it's optimal if your conference opponents are weak relative to your team. Example 1: Wisconsin winning the conference when UM and TOSU were having down seasons (pre-playoff). Example 2: Clemson remaining at #1 despite playing no-one good until the playoffs. If you're a Power 5 team (or ND) and win your conference, you're guaranteed to be in the playoff. Who cares about the rest, just get in! However ...

If you want to field a team that won't be crushed in the playoffs, you had better be battle-tested. If you're not you'll be crushed like MSU was after they snuck in after a fluke win over UM and a narrow upset of TOSU. In that case you want to better than the best when they're at their best.

I just wanted to comment on the overall state of college athletics, especially football.

Title IX has been around for a while. I have no real issue with it. If a university has the resources to fund a wide range of men's and women's sports, go for it. OSU and UM fit that profile.

The issue I do have is the rapid rise in ticket prices for football games. For example, the face value of a ticket for the UM@OSU game was $190. Luckily my father is an OSU professor and has season tickets. But $190 for a cold bench seat in the nosebleed section in late November? Come on, man.

I don't know if it's that bad in Ann Arbor, but the trend is not positive. Either your team is a world-beater or you're going to lose a lot of season-ticket holders.

I agree with you that there is definitely something wrong with your coaching staff.

You have plenty of talent but it's not showing up on the field in big games. Harbaugh looks either confused or grumpy most of the time.

He probably needs to give the reins of your offense to someone up-and-coming. What he is doing now is pretty predictable, from our point of view.

I'm and OSU fan, you're an UM fan, so we're going to see things different ways.

I took Urban's demeanor to mean that he didn't want to f*** up his responses like he did on B1G media days. He was reserved and had to clarify several questions before responding in a tight-lipped manner.

You or I would probably do the same thing.

I don't think we get all of the breaks. Look what happened to Jim Tressel. One false signature and he's gone.

As president Drake stated, there was no one decision that would make everyone happy. It had to be in the middle.

OSU and UM have the two largest fanbases and alumni associations in the country. No punishment for Meyer = UM and media outcry. Firing Meyer = huge backlash from the OSU faithful.

It's a complicated situation. Courtney Smith was hiding things for years so Zach Smith wouldn't lose his job. Once she got some income independently after the divorce, the situation changed.

It's a he-said, she-said mess. I'm just glad that OSU has moved on from the situation.

I'm a Buckeye fan here in Seattle. If you're a UM fan, go to Buckley's in the Belltown neighborhood.

I went randomly with two other Buckeye fans to Buckley's. It was like a scene in a movie where the record needle scratches and the dancing stops. All Maize and Blue and packed.

Conversely, avoid The Sport by the Space Needle. That's where the OSU and PSU alums go.

Thanks

Thanks for the comment, but Ohio State doesn't need defending. We'll take care of it this year.

Moos is a moron. He's given all of us perfect bulletin board material.

Ohio State 56-14 last year in Lincoln. Nebraska plays away at The Big House and away at The Horseshoe this season.

Good luck. It might be exhibit A in how athletic directors lose their jobs.

Running scared

TOSU fan here.

TOSU, UM and MSU have consistently had some of the best defenses in the conference, and all are recruiting well.

The only people who will be running scared are anybody in the Nebraska backfield.

The worst drivers

OSU fan, but I live in Seattle, and have driven extensively in the midwest and along the east coast, esp. DC and NY.

By far the worst drivers are in Seattle. No one signals lane changes. There's a huge influx of drivers from foreign countries that can barely drive, like going 45 mph in a 60 mph zone in the left lane. Compound that with the outdated roads and bridges that can't keep up with population growth and it's a complete sh*t show. Add to that multiple 2 lane roads with no shoulder -- even through downtown -- and you have a real mess.

NYC drivers are crazy, but their craziness is kind of predictable.

DC drivers are the most aggressive, road-ragey drivers I've ever seen.

I can't comment on what may

I can't comment on what may or may not have happened at OSU years ago, before the advent of YouTube and social media.

What I can say is that Urban Meyer and the university will not tolerate any unwanted actions towards women. Our football team's 5 unbreakable rules are pretty simple: Honesty, Treat Women With Respect, No Weapons, No Drugs, No Stealing. They're written on a large wall at the practice facility.

Carlos Hyde was suspended for slapping back at a woman in a bar. Brionte Dunn was dismissed for alleged date rape. There was another player that was dismissed from the university for getting too cute with a female tutor.

There are bad apples and bad things happening at every school. The difference lies in what the program and university do about it. This is where I take issue with MSU. What I smell is a coverup to keep their programs competitive, at whatever cost. The victims don't count.

Ohio State fan here. Both the

Ohio State fan here. Both the Ohio State and U of M fanbases need to keep the heat on MSU. Fire everyone as far as I'm concerned. Nobody should tolerate systematic sexual abuse.

Keep shouting out. This defiles Big Ten sports as a whole.

This is one topic on which

This is one topic on which OSU fans (like me) and UM fans can completely agree.

Every school has its bad apples.

But at MSU the problems these problems have been widespread, well-known and swept under the rug. If OSU was given scholarship limits and a bowl ban for a tattoo scandal, where is the justice for the hordes of women that Nassar molested, or the glaring lack of institutional conduct with all of the player's crimes?

In my opinion the NCAA needs to bring the hammer down hard on MSU. Maybe law enforcement as well. As a society we simply cannot turn a blind eye and tolerate this sort of behavior.

Best wishes for your health

Hey Ace.

I'm a Buckeye, but I've appreciated your journalism, candidness and professionalism on this site and Eleven Warriors.

Get well soon!
