Just pointing out that…

Just pointing out that Michigan has some shoreline along Lake Erie, too. If it doesn't have to be a Great Lake, there's Lake St. Clair. If it doesn't have to be right on a lake, eastern Macomb County or one of the Pointes would put a person near Lake St. Clair. If being in the middle of a river is okay, there's Grosse Ile.

If the lake doesn't have to be huge there are plenty in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, and Livingston Counties (e.g. Whitmore Lake, Orchard Lake). These would put one near the resources of Detroit without actually being in Detroit. These options would be close to Ann Arbor, too.

Damn! Toots and the Maytals…

Damn! Toots and the Maytals had originally been scheduled to play Riot Fest in Chicago this weekend, too.

Gel Set Collaboration Simulation

I've been listening to Gel Set for a couple years now, but within the last year I've been impressed with her collaboration with Matchess, called Simulation.  These are non-glo stick electronic acts.

Hide has a striking live act.  Electronic, but heavier.

White Mystery (indie/garage), but they've been on my radar for a couple years now.

Those laws seem overly broad

IANAL, but those laws seem overly broad.

If you downloaded a pirated MP3, wouldn't that be using a computer to commit a crime?  Would it really be heinous enough to be considered a felony?

Or, say, a naked drunk walks up to a Fleetwood waitress and asks for a side of ranch (actually happened) and tou take a picture and email it to uyour buddies.  Would that make you a felon?

It seems really easy to run afoul of those laws.

Taco Bell, East University, Part 2

Taco Bell, East University.  Working weekend close.  It was getting toward 4 AM and the manager said it was time to lock the door.  But as the door was gettin locked, a group of youths with a boom box pushed their way in.  When they got to the counter, the manager refused to serve them.

This got their group upset.  One of them ran to the door, threw it open, and shouted, "This is an all night party!"  The others were arguing with some frat boys.  Then, all of a sudden, all of the youths run out of the restaurant.  I looked to the counter.  One of the frat boys was reeling backwards.  His throat was slit.  There was a sheet of bllod running down his neck to his shirt.

He lived.  The cut wasn't deep enough to get the big veins.  Some of his buddies took him to the hospital.  After all that, the manager asks me, "Should we call the police?"  Security was hired.

Taco Bell, East University

Taco Bell, East University.  Working day shift.  The crew member working register comes in back and tells the manager, "There's a customer who says the guy in the next booth to her is masturbating."  An emancipated Commie gives the ID, "It's the Lone Wanker!"  She goes up front to take a look.  The manager asks a new hire to go wipe the table down.

The new hire wiped the table and announced he was done.  He was carrying a four-inch sixth pan with soapy water and a towel in it. The manager threw all of it away.

A couple years later I found out that the guy was a local metaller who was into Aleister Crowley and "sex magick".  He did it all over town.. AATA, public parks, Taco Bell, etc.

Does anyone know anything about Ruthven?

I read about Blimpy's earlier today on Facebook.  From a similar source, I've heard that the University has plans to demolish the Ruthven Natural History Museum and build a large biology building in its place.  A merger of "two biology departments" would follow.

Does anyone here have know anything solid about that?  The only things I've been able to find online mention muesum renovations, the demolition of some med school buildings, and the acquisition of the Pfizer campus.

Negative Approach

If I make it to a game, I'd prefer to hear the band over recorded music that would be played in a bar.

That being said, how about playing the song "Pressure" by the Detroit band Negative Approach when the other team is lining up for a field goal?  It's a very short song and could be played in its entirety.

Or how about anything by the legendary Ann Arbor band, Rodent Kontrol?

Early Enrollment Question

If Michigan is to take 28 in this class, 3 recruits will need to enroll early.  IIRC, Ringer and Wilson are set to do so.  Is there a third early enroll already lined up?  It's already December.

71?

You mention here that you played under Carr and elsewhere you posted that you played line.  If people were to start thinking your statements are those of someone who wore the number 71, would that be fair or way off base?  Or yes, no, maybe so?

A Question I would Like to Hear

Carr was briefly a defensive backs coach at WVU while Rodriguez was playing HS football in WV.  A question I would like to hear asked at some point somewhere is whether Carr had a hand in evaluating Rodriguez's potential as a college player.  Obviously that would have been out of context on Saturday.

About the MGoBoard List ...

This has been happening for some time and this seems like a good place to mention it ... sometimes (not 100% of the time) when I click on the little ">>" at the bottom of the list of MGoBoard topics, I will be presented with a second copy of the list of Diary topics rather than a set of previous Board topics.

What Is the Voracity of this Wikipedia Claim?

I was looking up the 1969 Wolverines on Wikipedia, when I came across an article about an old mascot called Biff, the Michigan Wolverine.  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biff,_the_Michigan_Wolverine).  At the end, there was this line:

"Blogger Brian Cook, owner of the popular blog MGoBlog, was given the middle name "Biff" by his parents as a tribute to this legend of Michigan sports."

Brian, what is the voracity of that claim?

Did Any MGoBlog Users Attend the Northmont Game?

According to this article in the Dayton Daily News (http://www.daytondailynews.com/dayton-sports/high-school-sports/wayne-s…) Ringer's team, Northmont lost it's 10/21 game.  Did anyone reading this attend the game?  If so, was Ringer on the Northmont sideline?

30-and-Out?

Lloyd Carr was hired by U of M in 1980.  He left in 2010.  Wouldn't that make his book "30-(Depending on Anniversary Dates)-and-Out: the Carr Years"?

I noticed while looking that up on Wikipedia that Carr was for part of 1980 a defensive backs coach under Don Nehlen at WVU.  Rich Rodriguez was all-state football and basketball in West Virginia.  He attended WVU beginning in 1981.  Given that timeline, one would think that Carr would have to have been involved in the evaluation of Rodriguez as a college prospect.

If there journalist out there with access to WVU coaches and records from that period, this could make an interesting article, given Bacon's book is coming out now.

Express! Yes!

In the proposed configuration the Express and the Pistons could play there at the same time.  There might even be a Kelly Tripucka sighting.

Late-night places?

In a similar vein, are there any late-night place besides the Fleetwood open near campus? Say, between 2:00 AM and 6:30 AM?  Are there any bars that serve until 2:00 AM and allow you to drink-up until 2:30?

Thanks!

Thanks!  It looks like they've made that area greener since I've been there last.

Exactly where are they set up?

It looks like they're set up between Nat Sci and the Chem building, but the depth of field looks a little odd.  Does anyone know exactly where the stage is?

Averaging those numbers...

IIRC, the 85 scholarship limit has been in place since 1994.  If I average the 10 years of data posted above, it comes out with 21.5 recruits/year.  The last 5 years gives 22.6 recruits/year.  That is only a fractional player away from the 23 - 25 recruit range stated by Hoke.

The uniforms are historical ...

Those uniforms look like the little brown jug

13. Peace on Earth, End to Poverty, Cure for Cancer...

... or some good recruits...

We Have 12 Known Opponents

Right now I see that we are going to play Western Michigan, Notre Dame, Eastern Michigan, San Diego State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Michigan Stae, Purdue, Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, and Ohio State.

How about having as a goal to win each of those games the week we play it (with maybe some look ahead to Ohio State, provided it doesn't distract from the task at hand)?

Depending on how the team does, they may or may not play one other conference game and one other non-conference game.  However, those games are still very TBD.

One of the few times

One of the few times one would expect to hear this question.

The finish was interesting

Last second field goal to win a championship is not too bad,

That adds some context

Is there another picture

Is there another picture with the rest of the cat?

Looks like the gator

Looks like the gator thinks someone brought their work home with them.

Old Coke Commercial

I've got an image of an old Coke commercial in my head ... but with Joe Green tossing 10 bags of clothing at the kid instead of just a jersey.

Given the Present Athletic Director

Given the present Athletic Director, I think we should consider pizza to be a breakfast food, too.

Willie Mays

Willie Mays and Vida Blue were teammates where?

Viable Candidates

"some of the people they mention are not viable candidates for Michigan for a variety of reasons."

It would be cool to hear those criteria from Brandon even if he couldn't mention names.  (It would be even cooler to hear names, though.)

Congratulations to Brian!

Congratulations to Brian!  The next thing you know there will be kittens on the set of GameDay.

They Could Be Playing It Close to the Chest

It's plausible that the delay is holding players at Michigan.  On the whole, the team did seem to handle the media rather well this year.  (Coaching?)   They could be in their own secret talks and just playing it close to the chest.  I do hope they stay if that's what they sincerely want to do.

Would He Want to Break It to HIs Current Team in Person?

If this does pan out, would Miles want to break it to his current players at LSU first?  Would there be some sort of concurrent press conference?

An Interestng Choice Could Settle Some Down

Some recruits who are concerned that Rodriguez isn't coaching would have to sign at another school where Rodriguez isn't coaching.  An interesting coaching choice could settle them down.

Not particulary jaded

I'm not feeling particularly jaded, but then again I'm not on the boards that often.

I'd like to see him come back

NFL Draft Scout posts him at # 10 DT

http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/probe.php?genpos=DT&draftyear=2012…

Consensus Draft Services gives him #57 overall

http://cdsdraft.com/rankings/top-100/

I don't think he made as much a mark as Brandon Graham as a standout on an overall weak defense.  I'd like to see him come back.  I think it would be good for both parties.

Roster Ssues at Oklahoma

From Tulsa World Sports Extra

'...Bob Stoops could be left with 89 scholarship players.

The NCAA limit is 85, so Stoops would have to get creative, or he would need some help.

Stoops doesn't sound worried.

"We always have attrition," he said, "and there's always issues."'

Was he the one that meowed?

Was he the one that meowed?  Or did he really hire a cat?

If Brandon Is Going to Baffle Them...

If Dave Brandon is going to baffle the opposition with his decision, I think he should go with Madden.  Hook the telestrator up to the big screen.

This is some more good Blue news

With th previous thread on Carlos Brown and now this, some former Wolverines seem to be on a little roll.  Hopefully, this is just the begining of more good news to come.

I'm going to take his advice

I'm going to take his advice and go out to get a drink now.

FlightTracker

How about a Flight Tracker jump ahead two move.

Until

Until the message boards become clogged and the Internet turns blue.  (Hmm, actually not a bad idea...)

Even more good news

Even more good news.  It's always good to see former Wolverines playing in the pros.  Best of luck to them.

Madden

Did anybody see what the odds were for Madden -- even as a one year interim coach?  That would be such an out of the blue (non pun intended) hire that all fanbase factions would just go "Huh" together as one.  The opposing teams be completely distracted at each game because -- it's Madden.
