To be fair, I've seen enough idiot fans on our end to believe a few people would say the same thing about Harbaugh if we had lost to Penn St. Doesn't mean they don't have more idiot fans than we do, though!

Can't wait for The Michigan Insider this week. One week of non-stop Sparty trash talking. It is glorious.

Taco hasn't played all season.
|4 days 7 hours ago||Funny thing is that four||
Funny thing is that four wouldn't even be a big shock. We are in the mix for at least six or seven. If you count those who are not 5*'s to at least one site, the list gets even bigger. And who knows what will happen if we end up beating OSU. Don't want to get too excited about that until I see it happen though.
|4 days 8 hours ago||Since recruiting became a big||
Since recruiting became a big media thing, we have rarely passed OSU on the recruiting trail and have lost practically every game. Bo recruited well and the 90's were loaded with top recruits - just didn't have a lot of media coverage about it.
I say all this to disagree with you - at least I think I am. While recruiting hasn't been the biggest factor in why we have struggled to beat OSU, you can't make the argument that it hasn't had an impact either. I also don't think we need to beat OSU's ranking every year or even necessarily at all, but we do need to keep that top 5 range as long as Meyer is their head coach.
Also that being said,

While definitely possible, I'm not sure you can take one half season at Oregon to determine he was a terrible coach altogether and had nothing to do with our defensive success either. His position group was pretty dang good when he was a defensive coach in the 90's for Michigan. Oregon was a tire fire defense waiting to happen. He is forced to go with guys that he most likely never would have recruited and most likely aren't fit to play the defense he wants to run.
He's a good defensive coach. Oregon might just not be the right fit regardless as spread offenses were never his forte, but yeah. I rest my case.
Mattison is still awesome regardless. Hope he stays at least a few more years.

Shows what I know! He should be a great offensive lineman so whatever. Maybe they're higher on their DL depth than I am, or possibly they're hoping he will be ready to start next season.

I think Onwenu is destined for d-line next year. Maybe some snaps in six-man o-line fronts, but more defensive linemen play in the course of one game. More depth is needed there

Is there a stat out there that tracks defensive turnovers per play or per X amount of plays? When your defense is allowing so few plays per possession and your offense is pushing so many plays per possession, it's really difficult to have a strong turnover ratio with so many fewer opportunities.
If there is such a stat out there, I feel like that would be a better barometer for determining turnover rankings than the ratio itself. And maybe that's what the turnover rank is doing, but that's not my understanding.

Sam Webb is adament that if Najee commits to any other school that it would be Michigan at this point. He doesn't expect a decommitment, but Michigan has the biggest chance of flipping him. I think Najee really likes Michigan from the sound of everything.

I haven't really watched Alabama a ton, so I'd have a hard time arguing that. While Rashan Gary has been as good as could be expected given our d-line depth, he isn't seeing a TON of snaps either. Alabama has had a great d-line with depth for years as well, so my guess is that they're both in a similar position. I would expect, however, that Gary will be the better player with a better NFL career projection. Too hard to seriously call for sure though.
|1 week 2 days ago||Well they sucked at running||
Well they sucked at running the ball too, so that didn't help any.
How many throws would Hornibrook have made that he didn't if he was healthy? I don't remember seeing a lot of open receivers that he missed. There may have been one in all honesty that I can remember. Heck, maybe him being "hurt" actually helped him complete that one pretty ball he threw for a touchdown - his trajectory could have been off if healthy.
Or were there open receivers on that play where he wasted those five seconds crawling into the fetal position while being fearful of getting further injured? That's the only play where I can distinctly remember being "injured" may have had an effect on his game.

Add Da'shawn Hand...
|1 week 2 days ago||100%. Probably would have||
100%. Probably would have locked up Da'shawn Hand as well if not for the lack of production on the field. He actually was beginning to recruit at a near Saban level until it was obvious he struggled to win games (and that it wasn't going to change). Seriously elite recruiter. Mattison was a big part of that as well, but that was a great recruiting team.
|1 week 2 days ago||Mike Weber was 100% going to||
Mike Weber was 100% going to sign his letter of intent to Michigan until Harbaugh got Karan Higdon to sign first. They still wanted Weber, but they never told him they were going after another running back. Weber was taken aback by the random signing and went with his #2 option instead. That one was actually on Harbaugh.
Weber was torn between OSU and Michigan before the Higdon signing, so it's understandable that he went with OSU after the surprise. This all happened on signing day too. That's probably the biggest reason why the Weber family was so pissed about OSU's coach leaving because both of his options sort of pulled one from under him.
This is Sam Webb confirmed.

Dawkins took a huge hit last year, especially coming off the bench. I have no idea what happened to him last year, but I seriously thought he was on the verge of blowing up after the 2014-15 season and become the next Caris LaVert type prospect (maybe not in style of play but in how he was a low-level recruit and turned into a high-level draft pick). Kid was playing so well at the end of his freshman year. Sophomore season was a huge disappointment. I know he's gone now, but I think his regression or lack of progression was very indicative of last year's overall disappoinments.

Basketball conversations are becoming borderline political nowadays (borderline lock-worthy). That being said, I like the starting five quite a lot if that involves Wagner.
Also, it would be nice if the Michigan community went out to support its team regardless of expectations or the record. I don't know how we expect all these 5* recruits to start showing up if we are filling the arena close to a Rutgers level of support. I understand Michigan is a football school, but it is clear fans expect Michigan to be at a Kansas or Duke level of basketball program yet we don't show up to support our team like a Kansas or Duke or Indiana level program when they're struggling (as far as attendance goes). Just thought I'd add that.
Excited for the season to start!

Ohio St. doesn't have room for 5-7 more players without pushing other guys out, which yeah I guess that could happen. They're supposed to have a smaller class this year.
|1 week 3 days ago||Pretty sure I heard he didn't||
Pretty sure I heard he didn't travel for the Rutgers game. Harbaugh even said that everyone who traveled played.
He's either hurt or in the doghouse again. He would have been in the Rutgers game before David Dawson received snaps on the dline... And he was seeing snaps earlier this year. Hopefully he "snaps" out of it whatever it is.

I think 30-32 is the target. I'd expect around 28 at a minimum.

She doesn't want her son to go North. Maybe she just needs to meet the staff, but she wants her son to stay close to home. Not to say she brain-washed her kid, but it's known that Aubrey wants to come to Michigan more than she wants him to come to Michigan. When that letter came to the house, that got her ooglie googlies all riled up.
I'm not saying Aubrey still wants to commit to Michigan, but it's hard to win against Mom. Coaches need to win over Mom to have a really good shot at him again.

RB Cam Akers #4
RB Stephen Carr #8
Believe both or at least one will be taking an official to Michigan. Correct me if I'm wrong.

|1 week 4 days ago||Was going to mention that as||
Was going to mention that as well. Pretty cool/intelligent that the starters are allowed to rest but not allowed to take a complete mental break from the game. We don't want to come back sluggish against Illinois and only win by 45!
Side question, why the crap is the bottom of the Big 10 so freaking terrible? Rutgers is the worst, but Illinois and Purdue aren't far behind.
|1 week 4 days ago||Well, we are "in the mix"||
Well, we are "in the mix" seriously with about 7 or so legit 5* prospects in the 2017 class, so yeah... I would say that qualifies as "reasonable"

Posbang to convince you to keep on posting. We need the good ones who aren't negative all the time to stick around or this blog will turn into RCMB, and Brian and Co. don't deserve that.
Don't let the negativity keep you from this place my man! There's always something positive around the corner.
|1 week 5 days ago||Still going to be an all-time||
Still going to be an all-time defense. Very rare that a defense has this many upper-classmen as starters who are essentially all NFL Draft picks. I know we are recruiting well, but this defense is rare in the amount of talent it has. The defensive line is the perfect example. Mo Hurst on the second line? I will be amazed to see something like that again.
|1 week 5 days ago||Guys... The 2016 defense is||
Guys... The 2016 defense is an all-time Defense. It really is. We will be lucky if we ever see another defense this great in the next 20 years. And I truly believe that. I know we haven't our toughest competition, so while there are still some tough games to be played... the numbers don't lie.
I say that because while I expect that the defense will take a hit (there's no way it won't), I still believe there is excellent potential for a top 10 defense next year. You don't need draft picks at every position to be a great defense, especially in Don Brown's system. I think we will be fine, but enjoy this season while it lasts - I think we will be talking about this one for a LONG time.
