Questioning the offer while congratulating the kid is like saying, "Hey, I'm glad he picked you, but I certainly can't see the attraction." I don't see how you can spin that as positive or okay in a Hello post.

M-Wolverine got banned for legitimate concerns about a former contributor's approach toward recruits, yet these guys perpetually come back to crap on our program and recruits and no one cares. Something's backwards here. I wholeheartedly endorse the clean-up.
|10 weeks 4 days ago||Half time adjustments||
I'm not referring to our talent level. I'm fully aware of Martin's impact. I'm not talking about either how well we played overall or turnover margin, but how well we adjusted at half time. There was a clear difference in our adjustments the first year from the later ones. Now, maybe Martin was the one who came up with some ideas we needed to adjust, but I have to think it wasn't Mattison.
The adjustments weren't consistent after that year.
|10 weeks 4 days ago||Theory I've come up with||
If you remember that first year, we were all so impressed that Mattison would make half time adjustments that would drastically change each game that season. We would effectively shut down whatever offensive strategy was working for our opponents in the first half. This came to be an expected thing and one of the reasons we were all really high on Mattison that first year.
Then, strangely after that year it all stopped. The half time adjustments that would shut down teams and control games, which we came to expect, never really happened again. I was disappointed each of the following years with our inability to have a half time change that made any significant difference. The X factor?
Quite possibly Montgomery. He was the only coaching variable around that time. Who knows if he wasn't whispering important observations in Mattison's ear that led to that defensive strategic edge?
I think it's a strong possibility. Either way, I'm confident Montgomery was one of our hottest coaches and a big loss when he took off for Oklahoma.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||Counterpoint||
We can come up with our own counterpoints. Kindly take your OSU comments elsewhere.
Besides, that's a ridiculous comparison. They pulled Burnett's offer, and he could go wherever else he wanted. He ended up fine. OSU screwed Weber into being stuck in an unholy alliance built on lies and deceit.

This isn't one. "Co-ed" is exactly the term that has been used over and over for a couple years to reference the college girl that he *allegedly slept with.
|11 weeks 3 days ago||Yes||
I've felt exactly this way all season, even as Hoke was building this "small" class. None of the other programs seem to recruit small classes like this. It seems they have 20-30+ every year. I'm sure they find ways to fill the spots. I've been scratching my head about this since last spring. It would seem a more ambitious approach would pay off.

You sound like a couple guys about to charge over the hill.
|11 weeks 6 days ago||This and the above||
This and the above comment are extremely unfair. Recruiting is the one thing Hoke did right. He scored with high four star recruits and solid four stars almost across the board and recruited exceptionally well. We pulled multiple kids with Alabama and OSU offers and other top power 5 schools, but he wasn't able to coach them up. If Harbaugh recruits as well as Hoke and coaches as well as Harbaugh has in the past, I'll be ecstatic.

MSU and Wisconsin say otherwise.

His was the red herring.
|15 weeks 4 days ago||Or Florida||
If we can have Florida's special teams I will rejoice.
|16 weeks 2 days ago||Well||
It's a lot easier to win national championships when you represent at least 50% of the teams in the national championship game. For example, the Big 12 wasn't going to win the NC game in 2011 (Oklahoma State), when the SEC represented 100% of the teams in it.
And since rankings are all circular logic I'd say that's an argument.

Perhaps we're all wrong about timetables. How many of us look a little longingly with regret at RR? He's a good coach. He would've been eventually here, even if it took forever. I've watched every Florida game the last four years because my wife is a Florida alum, and it gives me a pang of regret that they fired Muschamp. The guy had just smoked Georgia, lost by a ridiculous fluke of special teams misfortune against South Carolina, a game 9/10 times the dice rolled again they would've won, and what's more he's a good coach. He'll win somewhere soon.
And Hoke will too. I don't want to be looking down the barrel in four years at Hoke's ranked team jockeying with RR's ranked team for position, while we're in the stupor of our next coaching experiment. With no absolute home run hit, I'd rather keep Hoke. I really would. I would've rather, if Casteel could've been had, we hadn't moved on from RR, absent that.
I didn't feel that way at the time. I couldn't see RR go fast enough. And that's my point. My perspective has changed, and I'd rather see one of these good coaches, which they are despite our pitch forks, build the team slowly over the long haul than crucify each one as they go on to, pardon me if you think it's a stretch, ironically become the savior of their next school.

How bout you leave the blog then and never come back?
This blog is for intelligent fans who can read and if you had you'd be sickened. No respect for those who'd pacify this issue.
|23 weeks 5 days ago||Yep||
Like, aside from being human, why do I get the idea that no one in the athletic department knows how to do their job?
|24 weeks 1 day ago||My great fear||
From all I've heard as leaked unsubstantiated rumors, my great fear is that Schlissel will not be willing to shell out the big bucks necessary for a Jim Harbaugh. As a guy for whom football is not his thing, I'm really afraid he won't get it -- namely how much it is everybody else's thing, and how much the top dollar and the top coach are an absolute necessity.
|26 weeks 6 days ago||Mullen is the key||
He's at the top of their list. And if our Harbaugh or Miles dreams don't come true, he should probably be at the top of ours....he's an offensive genius. But reasonably I don't think we'd have a chance to get him if Florida makes a pitch. His connections there and Florida's less murky waters, in my opinion, not having had multiple near lynchings on campus -- only one -- probably gives them the edge.
|26 weeks 6 days ago||Always nice to see you comment!||
Totally agree, by the way. I was actually pulling for Notre Dame from how well they played and how much *agh *hack hype FSU has.

|29 weeks 4 days ago||Great diary||
I totally agree. Nice to have a moment of balance and reason. I'll hide in this little corner. Hoke has problems with the team right now, which are significant and probably should end with a firing (although I don't rule out a turn-around and all these former letter winners coming back and saying he's the right man). But this frenzy about the concussion has gotten ridiculous. I don't think it's the firable issue. Honestly - spoken to, corrected, protocol changed, but I think it's likely non-football players up in arms with pitchforks over that one.
I was at the game. I was shouting for Shane to be taken off. I was furious. But my brother, a former linebacker who was critiquing and giving commentary about the linebacker play (Jake Ryan especially) all game, and I agree: concussions are a big deal and student safety is essential, but the concussion handling isn't the firable issue; it's the record and direction that is at a breaking point.
|29 weeks 6 days ago||I was there||
People were pissed because we clearly saw Morris stagger, and could not believe any coach in his right mind would leave him out there. I was yelling he probably has a concussion in the moment, and I would have trouble believing anyone at the game was booing for any other reason. That was the tenor at the field
Also, when he sent Morris back out, people weren't really booing much, if I remember correctly - which for this part I may not, because they were all yelling some variety of "What?!?" and "No!" and "He just had a concussion!" and "You can't send him back out!"
You probably couldn't hear that we applauded when Morris was initially taken out, and this was applause of gratitude for Morris for playing his heart out mixed with relief that the coaches were actually taking a clearly out of it Morris off the field.

That is exactly the right answer.
|30 weeks 10 hours ago||Morris lurched||
Morris was already walking slowly when he lost the ability to walk, without wincing, just fell into another player. That is classic sign of a blackout which is a concussion.
Sure, it might've possibly been something else. But it is honestly almost certainly a concussion. That is exactly what I said when it happened, and it's more journalistic integrity than most journalists show these days.
