I find myself in the same camp as WampaStompa. Admittedly, it would be helpful if Harbaugh had a coaching tree that indicated success when removed from the Harbaugh sphere. Not sure Shaw was the best sign of that, but Fisch seems to be doing well. Certainly not something that directly correlates, but it would provide some level of comfort.
Thanks for the quality perspective, Brian. Three coaching changes in less than a decade is a curse from which we can all attest it's difficult to recover. We're still feeling the effects of the transitions (i.e., quality roster depth) and some poor OL recruiting evaluation and development specifically in the Hoke/Funk years. The status of our team, at "85%" of championship-caliber, is much more optimistic than that of our foes. OSU has no excuse for not being competitive in that game. Top three recruiting classes and favorable treatment and they put up a score that connotes something less than 85% of championship-caliber. While it may take another year to get to the vision that Harbaugh, his staff and we all share, I prefer our trajectory over what appears to be complacency (i.e., OSU), incompetence (i.e., ND), or whatever MSU is calling their problem these days.
that everyone on the team is aware of his low emotional competencies - Coach K, the assistant coaches and his teammates, they all appear to have "devices" by which to console him. Look at the way someone is petting his head while he sits on the bench restrained by an assistant. This kid has "Excitable Boy" written all over him. Listen to the lyrics from the Wareen Zevon song.
Seemed like none of the QBs did a particularly good job of going through their receiver progressions. Odd for a Harbaugh-led pack of QBs unless it was intentional.
I apologize if I missed this, but Is this kid any relation to Brad? With the Paul Jokisch PWO, I wondered if Harbaugh might be adding another descendent of a former teammate.
The data you've provided includes general fee amounts only - not tuition which, as I mentioned, makes it's way into the cost of building and maintaining the facilities.
Like everything else in the world of higher education budgets, it's not easily identified. The average contribution a MAC student makes to the athletic department budget (i.e., the general fund that comes from a student's "general fee") is closer to $1000 - this is the figure most journalists pick up because its the easiest to identify. However, those budgets don't include the cost of building and, in most cases, maintaining the athletic facilities which are clearly a cost of running the business. These costs typically run through a "Facilities" budget (which is typically funded by a student's cost of tuition, not the general fee) and are not charged back to the AD or, if they are, are done so at a highly discounted rate. The estimates on that number vary widely based on the number of facilities, age/life of the facilities, philanthropic contributions (which at MAC schools are not significant for athletics), number of students and potential mixed use of buildings.
As some others have commented on this thread, such an analysis doesn't account for intangibles like advertising/recruiting, school spirit, and philanthropy. But how much school spirit and good advertising did Northern Illinois earn from their 55-7 Poinsetta Bowl loss and Ohio University from its Camella Bowl loss to App State?
to throw in the towel on football. Spending millions of dollars on stadiums, indoor practice facilities, and student-athlete academic buildings, etc. is a losing proposition for MAC, Sun Belt, etc. teams who do so on the dream of making it to a large payout bowl game or the CFP. The average MAC student subsidizes their athletic department with over $2,000 annually. The growing tuition debt crisis in this country and the efforts of the Power 5 to squeeze out everyone else are going to take their toll on athletic programs in these smaller schools.
I don't believe his actions require any defense, JB's integrity seems to be second to none. I'm just trying to figure out why he would support him. Your point is one that I'd thought of.......I just don't know why he would have gone to the trouble of publicly supporting him in such a dark hour.
Does the book say anything about Beilein's support for Brandon? I have trouble reconciling why Beilein would have publicly endorsed Brandon as late as October 2014 if all these terribly things were going on around him (like seeing his peer coaches get fired).
according to the media and Meyer himself, he's a changed man. Family time, religion, etc., etc. The new Urban apparently doesn't do those type of things. Shame on Drayton.

I need three, if still available - email [email protected]
Has to be CBs. Dead to rights, last year. In fairness, however, the opportunity to make vast improvement was there given the "virtual" coach.
Sorry!
to play fullback
I was expecting to see a review of Harbaugh giving Jim Rome the Colin Cowherd treatment. I am disappointed.
for the clarification.
Shouldn't it be Manuel's job to evaluate the appropriate time for Red to depart if he's not coming to the same conclusion? What am I missing?
please be true
and now this? I can't take much more.

What are the chances that he's waiting for MSU to open up?
I'm tired of having an inferior OL
you saw a mid-December bowl game with a full stadium? It's really not a priority for those bowls to sell tickets.
To satisfy that burning itch
CLASSIC!

I think it's too soon to tell, but I like the B1G's chances.....unless Urban retires for "medical reasons" after The Game.
Is that a spot in the Aaron Hernandez cicle of trust or just a figure of speech?
every time I hear "Funk". Glad those days are behind us.

that's a lot of tatoos
If you arrive earlier, can you get closer to the floor during shooting practice?
Taking my 12-year old daughter. Her first UM sports experience and my first in a decade. Very sad for an alum, I know.

In my opinion
"(Kenny Allen) hit Vernon Hargreaves so hard on a kick return that he forgot to cover Chesson a bit later"
I'm an advocate for those schools maintaining lower cost programs, like basketball.

Tommy Rees did the same thing
didn't seem to be an issue for Cardale today

the dramatic change in Michigan player inclusion on this list after Harbaugh has been here for a few years
UM's sideline from across the field after his punt return. Live by the sword, die by the sword. I have no sympathy.
- simply refuting that O'Brien is
I'm not sure that O'Brien is the ingredient that makes that coaching roster insane
Didn't think I'd see that this year
45-13 Michigan
doesn't it have to be a coaching blunder?

on Michigan's DL than maybe we realized at the time. Then again, maybe it was just a matter of the talent dropping off?
"caught at least ten passes last season"......? Really?

to Turley's S&C program being responsible for Harbaugh's success at Stanford.
