Rival fan's perspective not nice to coach on hot seat. More at 11.
Seriously nice troll job there, guy.
|6 hours 17 min ago||So....||
Where did your "blood relative" get it from?
If it's true, yeesh. The AD has no idea what it's doing. But I'm still extremely skeptical.
|7 hours 7 min ago||Seriously guys, watch the presser.||
If you haven't then you have no idea what you're commenting on.
|11 hours 1 min ago||Yup same here||
PSu 2010 was the first time I really felt like RR just wasn't going to succeed at Michigan.
Utah on Saturday was the same. A loss I could accept...but a 16-point home loss to a 5-7 team last year, and when your defense played valiantly too? Nope nope nope. Not in year 4.
I remember post-PSU game thinking RR would have to do something remarkable to regain confidence...like beating OSU. I feel the same way with Hoke...he needs to get his team to beat MSU or OSU and finish with just 1 loss in conference. And definitely no more blowouts. I just don't see it happening though.
|12 hours 1 min ago||Oh thank you for the laugh, Brian||
I had to pause reading and make a comment when I came upon the word "sludgefart". Literal LOL. Bravo, my friend, bravo.
|14 hours 13 min ago||Man I must really be depressed about Michigan football.||
My answer to all 4 questions is "I don't know, and I don't care enough to put the energy into considering options right now.".
|14 hours 34 min ago||Death to Optimism||
I think several of the more optimistic posters (or benefit-of-the-doubt type of guys) turned after Saturday. I am most definitely one of them. Generally I am a benefit-of-the-doubt type of guy. One 31-0 loss on teh road does not indicate a pattern. Two games of ZERO offensive red zone appearances and a bajillion turnovers is significantly closer to a pattern.
I'm just depressed. All I can think about are questions which have no obvious answers.
How come this offense is incapable of running ANY up-tempo except for that 4th and 1 thing? How come Nussmeier - a proven, capable OC from previous stops - is so far incapable of calling a cohesive game and getting his offense to succeed? Why was Utah made to look like Alabama on defense?
How in the heck did Hoke and Mattison decide to adapt their defense to the spread-type offenses they face this year, yet Hoke seems completely unwilling to even consider adapting any other part of the game? (How did it take them 3 seasons to get to that point anyway?) The lack of the shield punt is by far the most damning...but the offense is just as baffling. Even modern pro-style teams spend more than half the time in shotgun...why are we taking a dual-threat QB and putting him under center 90% of the time? I can forgive it against Miami...maybe they took that game to practice weaknesses. But against a very capable Utah team? Why? The huddling thing doesn't bother me...the complete inability to just play faster (I'm not even calling it "up-tempo") is what gets me. You're down by 16 in the 4th quarter...where is the urgency, guys? Why do they play so soft? How can the defense play with urgency the whole game yet the offense cannot muster one urgent drive?
How can a guy like Hoke preach family atmosphere and deliver truly great recruiting classes not understand that modern football has changed?
And why the f^&( do we keep punting the ball on the opponent's side of the field? I understand defense is our strength, I can even understand it when it's 4th and 13 (that's too far to really consider it)...but if you're struggling to score points, I would think going for it to give your offense another chance to make a play is the better option, because even if they don't get it you have a stout defense ready to take over anyway.
Why the hell is Gardner so bad? If he's injured, ok...but that doesn't make it any better, because why the hell is he playing if that's true?
How in the hell can this team get so thoroughly out-coached by freaking Utah? How can a team with fantastic (or at the very least above-average) coordinators fail so badly?
|1 day 10 hours ago||False||
The team hadn't given up...you only perceived it as such.
|1 day 10 hours ago||Easy answer||
They haven't. Did you see the defens in the last 8 minutes of the game? They were still playing hard...about as hard as they started the game. The team was dejected, but they hadn't given up. And that was with knowing you were going to lose for 3 hours (basically), having to go back out and play with about 10 fans in the stadium!
|2 days 19 min ago||They deserve the rest of the season||
simply because you can't cancel a season. Football still needs to be played. If you fire Hoke now, who replaces him? You would have to have Nuss of Mattison as interim HC.
I've gotten super low on Hoke after tonight (much like how I felt about RR after the PSU game in 2010). But, Hoke is likely to finish the year out.
And these are very hollow words to everyone (me included) but it's still worth noting...Michigan is 0-0 in the Big Ten right now.
But what the heck do we do about the QB situation? Yeesh. Good luck Nuss. No pressure or anything.
|2 days 1 hour ago||I don't know why people are so down on Morris||
He has one start as a QB. yes, he's thrown plenty of INTs, but he's also been put in weird situations and he's still learning. He's a sophomore, after all. The guy threw a couple real neice passes against Miami (that weren't caught), and tonight he showed decisiveness and great arm strength, he just had a couple balls sail on him a little bit. He was probably nervous and trying too hard.
But to evaluate him based on what we've seen so far is not fair at all.
|2 days 3 hours ago||Yup.||
I mean, I think you probably still give Hoke the rest of the year, and yeah, anything can happen (the best thing going for Hoke right now is that he's still 0-0 in the Big Ten this year). But, instead of actually believing that, those are just hollow words right now. I don't see any way how this Michigan team can even compete with MSU and OSU. Shit, Indiana looks better right now. Utah is good, but they shouldn't be able to completely dominate our offense like that. Without a heroic defensive effort, the game looks worse than it did, and it looked bad enough as it is.
And really, all of the midfield punting was what did it for me.
I'm baffled by the offense. The OL looks slightly better, but everything else looks worse. Devin is still shell-shocked by last year, for whatever reason. And Nuss...I don't get it, man. Too much under center for a QB that just doesn't do well under center. A run on 2nd and 22? Really? Really. It's sad when the thought crosses my mind that "I miss Borges". Dude had no idea how to adjust for a failing gameplan, but he was able to at least get something out of the offense with some creative play designs. And some damn screens. I miss that throwback screen, badly. I see no creativity with this offense, outside of one pass to Butt against Miami. Which...fine, it's early in the year, I don't expect too much. But, I do expect something. Anything! One redzone trip in 3+ quarters against a decent-but-not-Alabama-level Utah defense is pathetic.
|2 days 4 hours ago||I'm sad and depressed.||
I truly liked Hoke. I really really wanted him to succeed. But...he's completely lost it. Whatever it was he had in year 1 here, he lost it. No, I don't mean RR's players, guy who will inevitably respond and say that. I mean, the bravado, the "fuck it, let's go for it" aggression...the gold pooping. We punted...how many times at midfield? Show some fucking stones and see what your offense can do once in awhile. Yes, even when the odds are not ideally in your favor. Quit coaching scared. Gardner played scared, and if you believe that was all his fault...it was not. Nuss was coaching scared, Hoke was coaching scared, and it finally made it's way to Mattison in the 2nd half.
Where does Michigan go from here? I, honestly, have no idea.
|2 days 6 hours ago||Guh.||
Way too easy.
|2 days 7 hours ago||Well, yeah||
But given the events of the game, Michigan is rather fortunate they're not losing by much more. Great defense saved a touchdown by a great effort, got a touchdown on a great effort, and held the Utes in the red zone because of another great effort (after a strong drive by Utah). Take just one if those away and we're talking about a double digit deficit right now. 2/3rds of the team is playing like poop...hope they get their shit together next half, otherwise this will be a loss.
|2 days 7 hours ago||All things considered||
A 3 point deficit at half is a good thing given how derpy our O and ST were that half.
|2 days 7 hours ago||I think it's good||
Means they care...they're fired up!
|2 days 7 hours ago||Wait.||
How is it a warning if you get a 5 yard penalty? Fuvking refs.
|2 days 7 hours ago||Frank Clark, everybody!||
And boom goes the dynamite.
|2 days 7 hours ago||Oh my fuck!!!!||
What a fucking play! Yeah, get it! Defense showed up boys!!!!
|2 days 7 hours ago||Defense looks GOOD||
The offense has looke spotty (putting it nicely) and ST was a major letdown.
|2 days 7 hours ago||Intentional grounding!!!||
Come the fuck on, refs, easy call.
|2 days 7 hours ago||Oh Jesus||
Not good for Wilson. Very bad decision to jump there...know when the play is dead, dude!
|2 days 8 hours ago||Devin in his own head||
And oh look, special teams breakdown. Thought I saw a hold in there...no flags.
|2 days 8 hours ago||Offense too slow||
Not play clock slow...slow slow. Utes look faster and more decisive. Come on guys, get your shit together!
|2 days 8 hours ago||Wow.||
Lewis saved 4 points. Great hustle on a busted play. Strong recovery by the D on that drive.
|2 days 11 hours ago||Two home loss picks||
I might expect this for a team like MSU...but Utah? Are we THAT high on a team that finished 5-7, worse than Michigans unwatchable outfit last year? Are we THAT low on Michigan after a strange blowout loss to a rival on the road at night?
|2 days 11 hours ago||My God these noon games are awful||
It's sad when your best choices are Georgia Tech - Va Tech and Wisconsin - BGSU.
Though, BGSU just scored after Wisconsin fumble TO to tie the game up at 7-7. It's early, I know, but....BIG TEN!
|3 days 5 hours ago||Yeah||
I'm sure that had something to do with an end zone INT (that should have been a TD) and 3 missed field goals...and a fumble.
|4 days 11 hours ago||The sad part of this||
He could have gotten a modest 6-8 yard gain on 2nd and long had he kept going forward and slid prior to contact or just run out of bounds
Or, you know, freak out at the defenders coming your way and completely forget that you are FIVE YARDS PAST THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE. Go ahead and try a pass there.. Sure.
