Out of this world coaching

How about a little less cynicism about the players - win or lose? They're ballers and definitely not wierd guys (where does that come from?). Who cares when they joined their class? Again, they're ballers. Here's the thing to think about: imagine a Michigan practice with freshmen getting reps against what? Other freshmen. Typically, freshmen aren't expected to develop other freshmen. Upper classmen are supposed to do that. But Coach Beilein doesn't have that luxery - so he does his thing and develops player,s anyhow. Michigan and all of us fans are blessed.

Strategy for Mike

An LOI is a one year agreement. Rather than suffer all the inconveniences and penalties of trying to get out of the one he's party to now, he should take a year off - don't enroll full time anywhere - pick up some credits and get a part time job at Barwis Methods. Let the Ohio LOI expire, get a little ahead of the academic game and show up where he wants to play football next year as a freshman with all the physical development that Barwis could pour into him for the year he doesn't play.

In any event, let's be good to this guy no matter what he decides. Let's be real Michigan people. He's now seen the other side.

New tee shit Somebody please get on this: the distinctive profile of our new president with "I have excellence in mind" below it. I'll buy one for me, one for each of my employees and one for each of my children and grandchildren
sorry about the double post

Brady Hoke may bet he best thing that's happened to the program

since Bo. Perfect honesty, clear values and a love for the university that he teaches his players is so much of the story. And the humility. I hope I can learn that from him - even from a distance. The coaching of fundamentals, the attention to detail and a clear focus seem like every coach's objectives, and then we get to watch a guy that actually gets those things done - and he's ours! I assume that the Ohio alumni are as happy as they can be about Meyer. He appears to be a fine man, but he won't be a better coach than Hoke. I wouldn't trade Hoke for Meyer or any of the laundry list of saviors we thought we needed last year. Go Blue.

Visible support for John U

Here's a money making idea for someone:

I'd be happy to include Support John U. Bacon button (using those words, his picture, whatever) among my Michigan paraphenalia purchases. I'd wear it to every game and to any event or campus walk where it might be seen. Bacon is a Michigan Man if anyone is, and he's been one for a long time.

Supporting him in blog posts is sincere but not particularly notable or effective. John stepped up to the truth in the most public possible way, given his love for Michigan. We can go public for him. C'mon, someone; sell me a button.

Looks right to me I hate to send anyone to the history books to figure out this email, but I was in school when Barry Pearson was playing and this guy looks exactly like Barry. While watching those tapes, I wasn't thinking "big", or "hits hard", or "fast". I was thinking "smart". I've seen this before. Now all we need to find is a Tom Curtis for the same backfield.
Remember the stadium halo? Piping music into the Big House will be much like desecrating it with the Halo. Someone needs to walk RichRod through that one. He simply hasn't seen a culture with a respect for tradition like we have at Michigan. Hasn't he noticed he can now get in on any recruit in North America? What does he think the foundation of that access is? Try tradition; try thinking through the profile of a school that stands for things. Michigan may not always be the answer to a maiden's prayer, but it's terrific. I'm with everyone who wants a louder band - heck, just make it bigger.
The picture is goofy This guy was a terrific DC for the Denver Broncos. He interviews as a gentleman and coaches as a coach. Put in a picture that is a little less on the maniac side. He isn't one.
Decommits I never understand why anyone worries about decommits. If there's anyone you don't want on your team, it's someone who isn't sure he wants to be there. I don't blame 18 year olds for changing their minds, and I don't take the commitment concept seriously until signing day when the letter shows up signed. Stop thinking about "commitments". There are very few real ones until that last day. Let's see if the Beav stays at Tulsa for four years. Let's support the guys who want to play for M
Best Teaching Coach We've Ever Had I started watching Michigan basketball at Yost Fieldhouse. Yost Arena still seems new. No matter what we see this season, game by game, win or lose, we are watching a team being built, molded, taught, coached, encouraged and dignified (yeah, that's the word I meant to use) by the first coach we've had who does the whole job since either Dave Strack or ever.
Loving Michigan

Good stuff, Brian.  The best thing about your blog is that it is sane - and pretty damned funny from time to time.

I take a back seat to no one in my love for Michigan, although I think I'm on a pretty crowded seat.  I want it to be the best in all dimensions, school by school, team by team and, for present purposes, fan by fan.

RichRod came from a place where the fans didn't and don't have the self confidence to look either forward or inward.  The ones that went public looked insane - right up to the governor.  We don't want to be like them or like their insane cousins in Columbus or any other school that can't win with at least a little dignity and lose with at least a little grace.

Coach Rich is going to coach Michigan for a long time, and he's going to win for a long time.  He's off to a shitty start.  Tough.  Look at the quality of the man (high) and the nature of the challenge (large).  We could go on losing 3-5 games a year forever, go to bowls on that basis, have a long future of "winning" seasons.  We already decided we didn't want that.  Everything had to change.  This is part of it.

Again, Brian, thanks for your considerable contribution to sanity and at least a little dignity in a tough situation.
