Cornell, like Nebraska, is a land grant university (as is MIT). It has an entire college of Agriculture and Life Science with an international reputation. The Medical School is in New York City, not Ithaca.
The high admissions rate is partly due to the number of applicants, but mainly it's ASU's mission of using innovative methods to provide as many qualified students as possible with a good quality, higher education that they can access and afford. ASU is a very innovative university; I read that they just opened a branch campus in Los Angeles, and I agree with SBayBlue that Barrett, ASU's Honors College, is excellent by any standard.
I’m not a lawyer and don’t know how the Ohio statutes would be interpreted, but the UM law profs. teach medical students some law. (At least they used to, and since it turned out to be quite useful in practice, I hope they still do.) I looked up the Ohio statute about mandatory reporting of domestic violence.

The Ann Arbor VA is a teaching hospital for the University of Michigan Medical School and a specialty referral center. Many medical staff members have Medical School Faculty appointments, and UMHHC is topnotch in neurology and neurosurgery — easily top ten. I agree with Arb Lover. If a veteran who needs health care shows up with his DD 214 and photo ID, he’ll get help enrolling. It can be done quickly. Needed care will generally be provided at no cost.

Around UC-Irvine or beach towns (Newport, Huntington), would also be my choice in OC. Don't sweat about it, but before you finally settle on a place, spend a few minutes online checking the streetgang maps, faultlines and firezones.
As a physician, I have an obligation to question this decision. The head of the sports medicine department could have allowed more time for rehab, before making a decision. He had a moral and legal duty to put his patient's best interests first. Did he fail to do so?

There was no medical reason, it seems, why Ohio State could not have used this wait-and-see approach. So ethically-speaking, the team physician should have delayed making a recommendation, in his patient's best interest.

Students may take courses on other campuses without extra fees, enroll in study abroad programs, borrow books from libraries, use recreation facilities, etc. And diplomas are awarded by the University of California, not a campus.
What kind of deception is acceptable for a university employee? The president/chancellor or provosts should be reviewing this, not the NCAA. If they would not accept a coach deliberately deceiving them, they should be very clear that they will not tolerate it at al!
I think a sense of entitlement is part of it. As a grad student, I picked up a little cash by proctoring exams. Another proctor and I saw suspicious activity one afternoon and arranged for handgrading of an entire row of students. This was over 40 years ago at an Ivy League university.
They were SA's, mostly freshmen and sophomores.They failed the exam, the course, and did not place out of a language requirement, but they were not expelled for cheating. But if it could happen at a school without athletic scholarships or freshman eligibility, it could happen anywhere.
The numbers are only a cut point. Beyond that, the admissions committee considers 1) Will this applicant be a good doctor? 2) What will this applicant add to the class we are crafting? 3) What's the applicant's potential?
Putting deformable shock absorbers on the outside of hard shell helmets is a no-brainer. The harder problem is people have to be willing to wear them in games as well as in practices in order to prove they're effective. And to be ethical, that kind of human trial can only be done with uncoerced volunteers.
Many parents make greater sacrifices than not seeing a live game. Are the parents of a band member, somehow, less deserving than those of a football player? Or the parents of a student presenting a research paper at a national meeting? How about the parents of students who are hospitalized, receiving an honor, or graduating?
